Loews Coronado Bay Resort & Spa

Room was quiet clean and had a more than the regular amenities. Staff was spot on. The location of the hotel permitted us to visit Imperial Beach for a burger and brew and the Coronado shops which were both within 10 minutes of driving.

We had a hotels.com credit so we decided to take a staycation here since we love spending time in Coronado and had already stayed at the Hotel del Coronado before. The Loews Coronado is a pretty nice hotel on the outside and the lobby is very fancy, but the rest of the hotel is starting to look a little tired and in need of refreshing. Our room was […] pretty standard, nothing special, but the bathroom was very nice with a big tub and glass shower which both appear to be much newer than the room. I gave the hotel a rating of 3 because of two things: 1) It was very noisy (we woke up 3 times due to people running and screaming in the halls and the kids - we assume - in the room above us decided to run, jump, and pound on the walls starting at 7AM for more than 2 hours. Calls to the front desk were unanswered, so no one informed these people that they were disturbing other guests. 2) This leads me to the other issue which was the service. They only had one person working the front desk when we checked in and had to wait more than 15 minutes to get check in, then the same story when we checked out. Unfortunately the self checkout on the TV was broken, otherwise we would have just used that. When checking out, I mentioned to the woman about the noise overnight and her only response was a mumbled "sorry about that" when looking down at her keyboard. We reserved the standard room for $189. Upon arrival, I asked if we could get a room with a view of the water. The young lady said no problem and upgraded us to the deluxe room for free. When we opened our room door and saw the beautiful view of the water, we were sooo pleased! The room was very spacious and very nice. We also had room service for breakfast and it was served very quickly (my husband's breakfast enchilada was delicious, but my omelette was a little dry and overcooked and didn't have but one mushroom in it). My only complaint is that I love to take baths in the tub, and the tub was dirty. And you have to pay $25 for overnight parking! And its more for valet. I think overall we would come back again. Everything was perfect except the service from housekeeping. It was strange that they re-stocked the coffee the first morning of our stay yet did not make up the suite. While we were out at dinner it was done after we told front desk that it had not been done. The next morning someone came to the door around 8am for a service call that apparently was […] for another room. Although we left for the day rather late still no sign of housekeeping when we returned. Next morning once again we were awakened with a knock on the door for something we did not call about. If you get a chance to stay in the city of Coronado, I would highly recommend it. Staying at the Loew's Coronado Resort, not so much unless you really want to be nickeled and dimed for everything. We didn't get good phone service and our car's GPS system wasn't working properly in the area (hotel said it was because of Navy base). Had to call the hotel 3 times for better directions. Ended up going back and forth over the Coronado bridge 3 times. Very frustrating! Hotel could have made it much easier just by saying it was off Hwy 75. They only […] wanted to give me directions from the Del Coronado, but we kept missing the main drag because we didn't think we were looking for Hwy 75. We ended up being an hour late for our spa appointments and really stressed out (wonderful massage by Stacie and nice steam room). We wanted to stay close to the Del because we honeymooned there 30 years ago. Apparently this strand of Hwy 75 was not developed then so we weren't aware of the new extension. The views were great. The service from the counter window outside the bar was poor. Toilet paper in the room was one ply, cheap. MAIN THING WE DIDN'T LIKE WAS THE $25 PARKING FEE WE WERE UNAWARE OF! Use of the spa facilities is an extra charge but the front desk said at least they don't charge a manditory resort fee. We had prepaid the spa parking fee of $12 for 3 hours. Read more

Loews Coronado was an amazing place. My boyfriend treated me to a mini spa package that included a 30 minute massage, 30 minute facial and a pedicure. It was amazing. They kept me filled with champagne which is what I am looking for along with the fact that it was the best facial I have had in a long time. We had an ocean view with a balcony. Would […] recommend that, gave you a nice view plus the balcony provided a table and 2 chairs. The entire staff was very friendly and accomodating. If you like sports they have a huge area to watch the games while enjoying drinks and food. and 3 different places to eat to change it up a bit.The hotel is about 20 minutes away from time so if you don't have a car the cab rides could get costly. Rooms are luxurious and ours had a wonderful balcony overlooking the San Diego Harbor & Coronado Bridge. Bed was HUGE and very comfortable, great linens. Pool was pretty lackluster and there was no truly "Adult Only" section, so it didn't really make for a peaceful and relaxing swim / sunbathing.

Our first night staying there was not a good experience at all. We had booked for a king size bed and when we got there, all they had left were 2 full size beds. Needless to say, our first night was pretty uncomfortable. My boyfriend and I were looking forward to a romantic weekend and sleeping in separate beds was not what we signed up for. They offered no discount for this huge inconvenience. If you stay here, make sure you are getting what you pay for. This hotel is way overpriced for what they offer. We were going to stay at the Del and actually are happy we chose the Coronado Bay Resort. It was lovely. Great views, wonderful service, good food and nice rooms. We'd definately come there again. The "renovation" price helped us stay there as we are now retired and price matters.

Beautiful hotel and great surroundings but didn't expect it to be so far into the "island" or from Downtown Coronado and San Diego. It wasn't too bad to go to downtown SD or Hillcrest/North Park area as long as it wasn't during rush hour. I would definitely consider the hotel if vacationing with kids, because it was a family-friendly hotel. (In fact, […] we seemed to be the only guests without kids.) With kids everywhere, it was ok for a romantic getaway but not the top choice. If we were to return, we'd consider staying for more than one night to take advantage of activities like biking, exploring the beach or to try Aqua Zumba. The room decor had a calming beach feel with a super bathroom with soaking tub and shower. The balcony and view were supurb. We also appreciated the underground parking, although there is a charge for parking. The hot tubs and pools were delightful.

Very nice hotel but the location is poor. There was nothing close by. Everything was very expensive and unless you have more money that you know what to do with don't stay here. Parking was an additional $24 in addition to the room rate. There was water bottles in the room at $7. each. Not for me.

This was my first stay on Coronado, and I really did enjoy the island itself. I was not, however, impresses with the hotel. Found the staff to be very hot and cold when it came to service. When my husband and I first arrived and assigned our room, I was not impressed. The front desk, did, however, go out of their way to find us a room to make us happy. […] We were not aware that the difference between the superior, deluxe, and luxury rooms was the view. Period. If you want a bay view (not necessarily that on downtwon San Diego AND the bay) that is considered luxury. A view of the Marina and pools are considered to be deluxe, and I'm not quite sure what the superior consists of. We opted for the deluxe. Great view. All room appointments are the same no matter if it is luxury, deluxe, etc. Self parking is $25/day. Seriously! Room internet service is $12.95 PER DEVICE! In the morning, when we went to the hotel cafe and ordered a breakfast sandwich, it took 30 minutes.....with half of the two item order wrong. Coffee refills took longer than 10 minutes. We finally gave up on breakfast there altogether, and when we talked to management about the poor service, his reply was "I'm sorry". All in all we were very disappointed with the hotel itself and will not be back. Read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. The room was very nice, linens and bedding were top shelf. The bathtub was huge, could have probably snorkled in it. The only negative was the expense of snack items and liquor in the mini bar. A little bottle of wine (2 small glasses) was $22. I purchased a six pack of Bud from the "gift" shop […] for $17. As with all comparable hotels in SD downtown, nothing is given away that can be charged for (parking, internet etc.) so the cost of room can be deceptive unless you are aware of those issues but since that isn't unique to this hotel, it's easier to accept. I don't require being waited on hand and foot but the staff […] was ready to help with anything I may have wanted. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't experience any inconvenience from pets or kids (One in the same?) and wouldn't hesitate recommending Loews for anyone else looking for a romantic getaway spot.
