"Great Hotel near LAX"
I liked how close the Hotel was to LAX. It was across the street from a Staples and McDonalds as well as a strip mall with many different stores. Nice hotel with classic features. Nice restaurant. "Chic Mediterranean Delight!"
What a lovely surprise just off the 405. I needed a place that my clients could fly into LAX and meet me to preview a large fashion collection. The hotel is beautifully decorated, the restaurant Matisse has a gorgeous Salmon and grilled vegetable salad and the staff is courteous and helpful. Great space. The hotel is surprisingly elegant. The room was spacious and clean and quiet. The people were fantastic... helpful, communicative and thoughtful. While hardly a chic neighborhood, the proximity to the 405 gets you to the airport quickly and Santa Monica is very close... actually quite convenient for my work in LA. "Great Hotel, let down by the Hotel systems"
We were intially booked into a room that was already occupied. Luckily they had a do not disturb sign out or we would have barged in! We got in late from a very long trip, but the Hotel has no pay to view movies so we couldn't sit back and relax like we had dreamed! We didn't have a room service menu in the room but when we finally ordered at 9.30pm […] we found we wanted more, but the kitchen had closed soon after our order at at 10pm, in the middle of LA, we couldn't get room service anymore - disappointing. The breakfast was badly managed, with people standing with plates of food and no-where to sit. no wifi signal in room for three nights. Staff were aware of the signal problem in that part of the building but wouldn't move us to another room. What a nice surprise. I thought we were in Downton Abbey but with friendlier people. This trip was business, but we will come back sometime on a personal visit. The hotel is very conveniently located just off a freeway and the traffic noise was not really noticeable in our room on the other side. The only disappointment was the breakfast, where the […] potatoes were all gone, the bacon charred, and the eggs dry and hard. The decor was lovely, what a delightful change of pace from the usual LA bland. The bed was very comfortable and the room smelled clean without the excessive chemical stink in so many hotels. Lots of fun little nooks and crannies to explore. The pool was sheltered from wind inside the courtyard. The other guests seemed quiet and there were no disturbances during our stay on a weekend. The staff at the Ayres was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is clean and well-appointed. The outdoor atrium is a nice place to relax and makes you forget that you are just off the 405 freeway. The only issue is that the restaurant in the hotel is not actually affiliated with the hotel. Therefore there is no room service and you can't take food from […] the restaurant to your room. "Cannot be trusted"
The check-in clerk was incompetent and unfriendly. There was a big event going on and we asked for any quiet room (which we had had before at this same hotel). She booked us on a low floor right over the ballroom/courtyard where the event was going on until 12am. We requested an upper floor room and she told us none were available. The noise at 6pm […] when the event started was already palpable so we went down to the front desk where another clerk was now working. We asked if we could move to a quieter room and she said "would the top floor be all right, I have plenty of rooms there". The first clerk was too lazy to help.. Unfortunately when we checked out, the first clerk was on duty again. So inept. She gave us the checkout slip from the person who had stayed in the room before us. It still had the physical imprint (which they take at check-in) of his credit card along with his home address! They cannot be trusted. On main street, but surprisingly quite. Restaurant food was pricey but excellent, breakfast buffet very good. Hotel has great ambiance, well appointed and a friendly, knowledgable staff. Free parking a plus for the L.A. area. Perfect location for LAX airport only 10-15 minutes, but NO noise from air traffic. All rooms have a Fridge and Micro wave, so […] bring your own soft drinks, water, etc. to avoid the vending machine in the hotel. Free wireless internet a bonus for busines guests. "Beautiful hotel but with shortcomings"
This hotel is beautiful and the rooms are lovely, but with a kingsize bed you only get two pillows, so I asked for another and the one I was given was really smelly!! When I pointed this out the hotel did offer to change it, but how come they give out smelly pillows? When we arrived there was a very noisy teenage party in the hotel with kids running […] around the corridoors screaming in the night, that was a bit annoying, but even so, it is a nice hotel.
