"be prepared! the room may not be."
Probably the most uncomfortable stay I ever had. It was in the mid 20s when we checked in at about 9:30pm. The room was so cold we were cold with our coats on. I would guess in the mid 40s. The heater emitted a barely lukewarm flow,but we were assured that it would"run us out of the room". It eventually did, but not until the next morning, after we […] had slept with extra blankets and our clothes on! The room was paid for,the fee was not refundable after 7;00pm so why was the heat not turned on? The staff did not seem to think it was a problem, blaming each other for the lack of preparation. "clean but sketchy"
Wow. Ever see the movie "Deliverance"? A little too much in common with this. Lowlifes at the pool, knocking on doors at all hours of the night (hookers? Drugs?) noisy. Place was nice inside, kept up well. Lukewarm shower, staff nice. TV remote wouldn't work, they programmed it worked for 5 minutes, read a book instead. "nice building outside"
I did NOT get the room I reserved. I reserved a queen size bed in a deluxe room. When I arrived they wanted to give me a room with 2 single beds. If I wanted 2 single beds, I would have reserved that type of room. I did get a room with a queen size bed. It was so small that the bathroom washbasin was outside next to the micro wave. "Cool Harbor Motel"
My husband and I chose Cool Harbor Hotel due to its proximity to Luray Caverns and the fact that it has a pool (specifically!). We also like to support independently owned hotels. Disappointments: -Unaware to us, the pool is padlocked until noon. We were never told this and had our suits and sunblock on. We would have never stayed here if we would […] have known this. Also you will have to request towels at the front desk if you decide to go in the pool. The hotel only provides one set of towels per person voluntarily. -It seems the motel doesn't want one to use their facilities (due to upkeep?). There IS a basketball hoop, volleyball net and grill. That is fantastic! However, we were never told this and it isn't posted anywhere... so we didn't find out until shortly before we were leaving. We had already had the fixings for a grill! Another negative is there are rules that are plastered everywhere. "If anyone is SUSPECTED of underage drinking, we will call the police." And here are some paraphrased rules: "No noise after 10." "No food or drink in the pool." The rules make sense, but with the rules posted everywhere it makes it feel more like a prison! "Quaint motel - good value"
A very good value compared to other Front Royal motels. The building is old, but the rooms are comfortable and clean. Rooms have ceiling fans above the bed, which makes a very nice alternative to running the AC. There are tables outside to sit and relax at and a cute little koi pond outside the lobby. So the motel had a certain charm. The motel breakfast […] is very basic - cold cereal with milk, OJ and coffee, some fruit and pastries and instant oatmeal. Nothing fancy, but very home style. Staff is friendly and efficient. The only real complaint I had was that the sheets didn't conform to the mattress very well, and the mattress pad bunched up, so it wasn't the most comfortable bed. "Disappointed"
The motel is in a good location and the exterior, lobby and pool were all nice but the rooms are really shabby. We are not high maintance people at ALL when it comes to hotels but the carpet was filthy and there was a cigarette hole burned into the pillow case.
