Hotel Modern provided an overall fantastic stay. The room was plenty spacious enough for two people, very clean, with a super comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was really big, with a huge & open shower, very clean and featured really nice bath products. If you're there strictly for French Quarter adventures, expect to do a lot of walking, as it's […] a solid 15-minute walk each way. We didn't mind that, as we enjoyed the quiet neighborhood around Lee Circle. We enjoyed being close to the historic museums, and also a quick bike ride up to the garden district. We loved that Hotel Modern had cruiser bikes for free use to hotel guests, of which we took full advantage to tour more of the city than we could on foot. And the restaurant on the first floor is fantastic - farm to table type vibe featuring local veggies, meats and seafood, and an amazing cocktail menu for the adventurous drinker. And all of this at a great rate. The only two downfalls I experienced, which were very minor: the front desk reception staff seemed pretty disorganized and don't seem to have a very efficient system for getting guests quickly accommodated or dealing with any kind of crowds; and the elevators are really slow. The Hotel was a boutique hotel about a ten minute walk away from the River-walk and casino, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and all other major areas in NOLA. Among […] other things, while they have a coffee maker in the room, they continually continued to forget to refill the coffee/ and cream and sugar, so every single morning I had to call and ask for these things (but still would not get either cream or sugar)-and I like coffee in the morning! On the plus side, the front door staff is very friendly, and willing to call you cabs and recommend places to go to. They have complimentary water/mixed drinks at the front desk starting around 3 pm, which was lovely! It's a laid-back place to stay and in a great location. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff. It's right on the St. Charles street car line but still not a long walk to the French Quarter. They didn't clean our room the second day we were there but they offered us umbrellas to use when it was raining. Note: only valet parking is $30 a day. "Didn't want to leave"
Arrived on a Saturday and was able to check in early. Was offered water when we checked in and my room was upgraded just bc. Had to call for an iron and ironing board the first day which came up in less 5mins and wash clothes the second night, which we never received. Trolley picked up across the street from the hotel which made bourbon and canal easier […] to get to. It's $1.25 per ride all day pass was $3. It runs continuously until 11pm which it then runs every hour. My boyfriend left his wifi and they gladly overnighted it for him. The service was absolutely atrocious. There is no main front desk, so you're constantly waiting on staff to return from the back room. We arrived at 11:30am, dropped off bags, and came back at 3pm to take a nap. We waited around for over an hour before we finally were allowed to get into our room. Excuses ranged from "previous guests check out late" […] to "the linen service arrived late". The rooms were tiny. The beds were comfortable but one of the fitted sheets had an old blood stain on them. There was a spotlight outside the shined right into our window. The hotel was just far enough where you could walk to the French Quarter, but then you'd need to take a cab back. Overall, we were not satisfied with our stay at all. "It works"
Make sure you know this is in the Warehouse District, if you have never been to NOLA before...it is helpful to know the districts. The area was safe, it is away from the party scene in the French Quarter and so it is quiet. Like everyone else has posted, it is accessible to just about everything. I had my mom with me, she doesn't do a whole lot of walking […] and we made it to the French Quarter and back everyday, 20 min walk to Huck Finn's for the tours. What I will say about the hotel, it is different. Very hands off as far as check in, kinda weird. They have a front bookcase that has water on it, where usually someone is stationed, until they leave to go in the back to get your reservation and charge your credit card. The bathroom does not have ANY ventilation, so definitely leave the door open after a shower. The room did not have a trash can, we called for one twice, and after my mom went down to the front she asked again, we finally got one on day 2. The staff is friendly. The lobby was always empty, and there was construction going on in the area adjacent...the restaurant they advertise, i don't know how you even get to it. all in all, it works, but just know going into it, if you need more TLC, this is not your place. this is more for the people who are very hands off. We paid more than $350.00 per night and we did not get our room cleaned or bed made after the first night. We also only had one cup for coffee and one coffee thing so we had to share a cup. When you didn't get the room cleaned the second morning you didn't have coffee. At the lobby the coffee was $4.00 per cup. There were no wash cloths so you had to […] use a hand towel to wash your face. The lobby, hall and elevator look like you are in a vampire movie. The hotel is still "under construction" from what I was told by an employee. Beautiful decor and boutique feel... However the staff seemed to never be available. "A bitt off the main drag, but worth it"
The hotel was located about 15 minute walk or 5 min taxi from Canal/Bourbon St. Hotel was nice and clean. We stayed in a Medium room which was perfect for us. We spent most of the time out and about. We had a nice view of the city & superdome out our window. The rooms had everything we could want or need. Beds were comfortable, nice tv, fine sized bathroom. […] Right on Lee's Circle and near a lot of museums. Enjoyed the decor of the hotel, very chic. Only issue I could see is the parking options could be a problem. The hotel will valet for $30/day, you can park on the street, or you can park in a parking garage down the way.
