This hotel is in a great location - close enough to everything, but far enough to not have to deal with loud people out late at night. The center courtyard is absolutely gorgeous, and they have a nice continental breakfast bar set up each morning. Perhaps the biggest bonus is that it is a mere 3 blocks from Cafe du Monde! Having said that however, do […] NOT book one of the interior/non-window rooms - it is dark/damp and creepy and not worth the money. Also, I found the front desk staff to be fairly indifferent to helping so thank goodness the porter and garage staff were helpful. This is a charming hotel and located right off Jackson Square but away from the bustle and rowdiness of Bourbon Street. You can't beat the location of Place D Armes. It's right in the middle of the French Quarter, a few blocks off Bourbon (not too close for the noise to be an issue, but close enough to easily make the walk back if you go a little wild on Bourbon street) .The on-location valet parking is pretty clutch (though it is a little expensive-- if you drive, factor […] in a few extra bucks per night). The hotel staff are amazing and very helpful. The rooms very comfortable and kept clean with daily maid service. I might suggest asking if the room you are booking has windows however. I'm OK being a cave-dweller so the fact that I was surprised with a windowless room didn't upset me, it only made me chuckle and reminded me that I should ask more questions. (windowless rooms are great for sleeping in.. not that you'd want to in New Orleans). Overall, I'd recommend Place D Armes to anybody going to New Orleans. Read more

We stayed at the Place d'Armes hotel after 3 nights at the Bourbon Orleans, which we thoroughly loved. The hotel itself is nice with a beautiful courtyard and pool area, but our particular room was terrible. It was very small, had no windows, outdated decor, filthy carpets, stiff as a board bed with old/ratty sheets, some outlets didn't work, and other […] things were lacking. We tried changing to another room, but the hotel was apparently completely booked for the night. I felt that if we had gotten another room it would have been a nice experience, but I'm sorry to say that ours wasn't and we couldn't wait to leave. From the moment we got there we received excellent service from the hotel staff. Especially from the concierge, Stewart. He was quite simply, "da bomb." We arrived early in the morning at the hotel so our room wasn't ready. Stewart gave us some excellent suggestions for what to see and do during our first few hours in a city that me and my travel companions […] had never been too. He even offered to lend us a CD to listen to! Throughout the week he greeted us when we saw him and he always had great suggestions for activities to do and places to see. One of his suggestions was to see a local musician, Shamarr Allen, perform at the Royal Sonesta on Thursday night. It turned out to be a really fun evening! The hotel itself was very lovely. The courtyard was picturesque. Our main gripe was that we stayed in an Interior room that had no windows. We found it very disorienting to not be able to see daylight in the morning. Also, after doing research on the hotel and finding out it was considered "haunted", it was, for me anyway, a source of discomfort knowing there were potential spirits out there. We had no ghostly encounters (thankfully), but the idea of it was enough to keep us a little scared at times. If you don't believe in that type of stuff then that shouldn't be a problem. The proximity of the hotel to such places as Cafe du Monde, Decatur Street, and Bourbon Street made it very convenient. But it wasn't so close to Bourbon that you could hear all the noise. The hotel was situated in a very quiet area of the Quarter. It was also just a 10 min walk to Frenchmen Street and to the St. Charles street car. I probably won't stay here again due to the "haunted" aspect. But I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting an affordable and convenient place to stay in the French Quarter. We had a wonderful time in NOLA and this hotel was reasonable and close to all the fun. My ONLY complaint is that the "interior" room we stayed in did not have any windows! It was like being in a cave. We called it the "bomb shelter". We will stay here again, but we will request an exterior room.

Our experience at the Place D'Armes was fantastic. We had a basic room with a queen-sized bed. The room was small, but very clean and fresh. Instead of feeling claustrophobic (it did not have a window), it felt cozy. The bathtub was a marvel, as it was the cleanest I have ever encountered in any hotel. Ever. The continental breakfast was a bit sparse, but it's free, so I just consider it a bonus -- take it if you want it, but there's no harm in leaving it where it is. The location is one of the greatest facets of the stay in the Place. It's in the center of the Quarter, but close enough to Esplanade Ave. that parking isn't a major concern (parking there is free at night, and 2-hr. during the day). My partner and I will be looking forward to staying there again on our next trip. It was much more than we expected for the price, and, as a NOLA native, I was thrilled with all aspects of the stay.
