Where to start... My wife and I went to New Orleans for 4 days/3 nights and chose the French Market Inn due to location and historic ambiance. The rooms were so sparingly decorated it was hidious. There was a chair, two very small night stands and a small roll top desk and the most uncomfortable bed known to mankind. I was literally sore when I woke […] up each morning. The air conditioner didn't work, maintance came and looked at it and agreed it wasn't up to par and would have the front desk call me. Later, when I called the front desk they informed me that they'd have to see about it the following day, nothing came of it. The tv had a wad of cables hanging from the bottom of it and the 4 bulb light fixture had only two bulbs burning. For the nearly $800 I spent I could of stayed elsewhere and took a cab to and from the Quarters and been more comfortable and saved money. Read more

Look, this hotel is at a great corner and right in the FQ by the river. Location gets an 'A'. Now the rest: desk staff, indifferent. 'Bellman' (why?), slow, lazy, sullen, obese. The room we were given was an 'upgraded' room; we know because we asked to be moved and were shown 2 other rooms that were not upgraded - they were ratholes. Many rooms with […] no windows, these are dark caves indeed. Ours was very small but decorated exactly like a Homewood Suites hotel room; however the plush-looking, seemingly comfy bed gave both my wife and I horrible backaches. The room was cramped by big furniture in a tiny area, and CONSTANTLY rang with motors, pump noise and water streaming sounds from the brick wetwall... as well as hearing whistling, coughing and other very clear sounds from the next room (we each thought at first the other was whistling, that was a little funny). I was reminded utterly of a cruiseship inside cabin near the waterline, from my college days working on one... it would have been nostalgic as such but for a couple it was no fun. We would NOT choose this place again despite the rustic buildings and 'historic' (why?) name. It was not a good value and wouldn't upgrade us, only offer horrible alternate rooms. When I was booking online, I read numerous reviews of how it wasn't your typical Marriot, Holiday Inn, etc. This is a very old building and they are undergoing what seems to be a lot of renovation. Over all, I must say that the experience was a good one because of the staff was helpful and friendly, the cleaning service was attentive, the proximity […] to everything that was going on and the price. When I arrived, I was tired and stressed about my lost wallet. The room was charming and simple (exactly what I like in a hotel room). My girlfriend was to arrive two days later and I wanted her to be comfortable as well. After laying out my things, I saw that the place was extremely dusty. Everything that was not within arms reach had not been dusted in weeks or more. This was true of the light fixtures (blatantly obvious when turned on), the blinds, the air conditioner, the bathroom mirror and the air vent in the bathroom. I left a note with the front desk to have them go over those things for when I returned from dinner. The task was not completed till the next day and some items had not been taken care of. I cleaned one light fixture and gave it to the front desk just so they could see exactly what had been the issue. The next morning it was pristine. Read more

Hotel was very quaint with old French Quarter charm. Great location and our room was on the back side of the hotel, so fairly quiet. Room was small, but clean with all the basic amenities you need. Only real complaint is that the mattress was horrible...but if you drink enough Hurricanes and Hand Grenades, then you don't really notice!

Located on the outer edge of the French Quarter, this hotel is in a great location, out of the crazy noise, but within walking distance of everything. It's an old, quaint building with lots of brick. Hotel staff were polite, but not overly friendly. Overall, it was a nice stay, and we would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. I do not recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. The hotel room was not maintained well and was not clean. I totally wasted my money. I would rather stay at Motel 6 or Super 8.

I really enjoyed my stay in the French Market Inn. The room was clean and comfortable and the location was perfect. My only gripe was how much it cost to park my car there for three days but then again, I was in the touristy part of town.

The front desk staff were all very wonderful! We stayed here for 4 nights and they tried hard to answer all of our questions and to guide us with very accurate recommendations for places to eat and safe things to see and do. The valet parking was just fine and our large vehicle had no damage, or extra miles and all things left in were accounted for. […] We would phone the front desk for our car to be brought up and then they would phone us when it arrived and that was usually within 10-15 minutes but one time it was about 40 minutes, apparently due to traffic. There was a great deal of road construction all over the city and roads were being resurfaced in preparation for the Super Bowl. As far as the building, there are I believe 5 separate small buildings in this complex and some have no windows so if you get the room at a cheap price and want it only for the location then that is what you will get. I travel with a sound machine and for this trip it was very useful. I think most of the hotels in the French Quarter would be rather loud. This is a fair place and a great location! If you want to be critical then perhaps you should spend the extra and stay in a newer hotel. We were easy going and willing to tolerate the best that the hotel had in exchange for paying less and staying in that location. Read more

For the price an location, French Market Inn is very hard to beat. Parking is right across the street, Jackson Square is just a couple blocks down Decatur, and its very close to the river walk. One thing you have to understand is that this is a very old and historic building. It's not a holiday inn. The room was clean and cozy. I would stay again.

My husband and I loved the location, and the service was very nice. The disappointing part was the cleanliness of the room. There was caked on dirt on the door of the bathroom and the curtains didn't attach all the way at the top...it was hanging open to let a lot of light thru. You could see into our room from the street level, so there wasn't a lot of privacy. The location was good for walking to anything and we didn't ever need a cab or bus to be near the French Quarter activities. Even the tours were in walking distance. For the location, you cant beat the price. Its an old historic building and they have done their best to modernize it. I was able to appreciate the rustic ambiance, others may not be. All in all, I loved it. If your on a budget like we were this is the place.

Me and my husband recently stayed here for a night to go see a concert at the House of Blues! The location is very convenient for getting around the French Quarter! The service is incredible! The rooms are nice! Alot of people gripe about the valet fee BUT THIS IS OPTIONAL. You will have to pay to park somewhere (Its the French Quarter... Hello!) The French Market Inn made the entire French Quater easily accessible. It was only a couple of blocks from Jackson Square, and Bourbon Street and there was great music and food everywhere. My only complaint of this hotel would be the water pressure in the shower - it was a little weak. Other than that, the hotel was great!

We have stayed here several times, and each time it has gone further down hill. This time, the bed was a rock, the carpets really filthy, bathroom dirty and moldy, shower head pulling out of the wall. Spare blanket had vomit all over it. No bed spread. TV hanging on the wall not hooked up to anything at all. I always travel with Lysol and wipes, so […] we were able to tolerate this place, but if other area hotels had not been sold out we would not have stayed here, and will not stay here again until complete renovations are accomplished. This hotel was built in the 1700s. They are currently undergoing a remodel. Our room was spacious and overlooking the courtyard. It was centrally located in the French Quarter. The hotel does not have internet except in the main lobby which was a problem for my husband. Overall, it was a good hotel to stay at. Our room wasn't the cleanest. It smelled […] like mildew when we got in there. There was some mold in the shower area in the caulking and it looked like a year's worth of dust on the base boards. I don't know if that was from all of the humidity, that it was just hard to clean or what. However, our sheets, pillows, and blankets were clean and neatly made. They have valet parking which is some of the cheapest parking in the city at around $30/day. I definitely recommend doing that. The staff at the front desk was kind and helpful. The hotel has a great location BUT the rooms are horrible. I would not walk on the floors barefoot and had trouble sleeping just thinking of the sheets. If I had paid $25/night it may have been worth it but they charged much more than that because of the location. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was in a GREAT location.. honestly, I think it was one of the better places to stay in terms of convenience - it was right next door to one of the best food places in town! I was promised a river-view room, but wound up with a courtyard room and I think I enjoyed that more. The court yard itself was beautiful.. and while my room was TINY […] (they all are), I was comfortable. I was in a recently reno'ed room and it was clean :). I would suggest bringing your own pillows.. and your earplugs. You can hear EVERYTHING in that hotel... including what's happening outside your door and inside the adjoining room. All in all, it is a historical hotel so you can't expect all your requirements to be met - but the staff is friendly, and the hotel is small. For the price per night, there are far nicer places to stay. Parking is not free, and for what it costs to park, you can stay in a hotel that has far more amenities, a larger room, and is updated. I will pay more per night next time to have a decent size room. There was nothing deluxe about the room. Overall, we were not happy with our stay.

We knew we were booking a 3 star hotel so were not expecting the greatest place but based on other reviews, thought it was a good choice compared to other hotel prices that weekend. When we arrived, we learned the hotel had been recently acquired and was under major renovation with half the rooms closed for remodeling. While the renovations were not disruptive, we would have liked to know in advance that the hotel was going through major remodeling. Also, we were to receive a continental breakfast but did not. There was supposed to be an in-room safe, but apparently our room was one that had not been remodeled because no safe or dresser for clothes. Carpet was filthy although everything else appeared clean. Will be interested to see the changes but not sure it will be a hotel choice in the future.
