I am so amazed by the negative reviews. My husband and I recently stayed here while in town to see an off Broadway play. Our room was huge with two king beds, antique wood floors and a beautifully exposed brick wall. We both thought the place had so much character and charm. The bathroom was not huge or luxurious, but was clean and functional. The room […] was clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was also pleasant. We are from Lafayette and have been to New Orleans hundreds of times, so we did not want to do a hotel in the French Quarter. Basic hotel in great location. One complaint is that no room service, no way to get any food to room. They should have an arrangement with the bar which is connected to the Hotel.

Located just a few easy walking blocks from the French Quarter - so you are able to get out of the partying of the quarter. Close to the riverfront, Garden District and uptown, Treme, Downtown, etc... all the areas of interest. Original room we were given was a ground floor corner room and rather tight. We requested to move to another room due to the […] noise all night outside our room, from people leaving the hotel bar, and just hanging out on the corner outside our room. The room we moved into was on the third floor, spacious and quiet, very nice. The only complaint was the appearance of one very large cockroach on our last day. However, this should not be so surprising given it is an older building, boutique hotel, in a humid, urban area. These critters are part of life, especially in these types of areas. Being a big wuss - I requested help from the front desk, and a very nice staff member came up to the room to deal with the insect for me (I'm sure he was laughing at us - but was kind enough to never let on!). Overall, I found the hotel to have the charm we were looking for with the hard wood floors and exposed brick walls. Nice bar, but the sports on the TV's were playing way too loud. Read more

While the Ambassador is an old building, it was very comfortable. However, my bed felt like it had a plastic covering under the sheets - a little odd. At Ambassador my night was excellent, the room was cozy super clean and neat. Decoration was charming, excellent rates. Location was very convenient since I had to run some errands in the surrounding neighborhood. There are many places to dine and drink nearby. Complimentary breakfast was kind of late at 7:30am, since travelers like me have to work […] at office hours you have to run to be on time so I did not have the time to benefit from my complimentary breakfast. Customer service at reception was deficient, during registration I was not informed of the amenities: Free wifi. Complimentary breakfast, Happy hour at the Bar. The receptionist was always more interested on the administrative or paperwork she was doing and not on the customers that were coming to the hotel. I think that New Orleans is a great city; people that work in the hospitality business must make an extra effort to make visitors want to come back again. Read more

We enjoyed our one night stay here before leaving for our cruise the next day. The hotel is near the Port and made for easy access. The parking in the front of the hotel is limited so trying to wait for a spot in order to check in may take a few trips around the block.

We enjoyed the stay at the hotel. However, promptness of cleaning the room was not good and not all supplies for the bathroom were replaced when they needed to be. Pretty good - but there were a few annoyances. Took 20min to check in because the front desk was on a "call". Housekeeping didn't make it around until after 5pm one day. Stayed the night before my son's Dr. appt the next morning. The hotel was very nice and staff was friendly. The room was also very nice, but very warm. The air conditioning was not keeping the room cool at all. Overall it was a nice stay and would stay again. I will just check my room before getting all settled in for the night.

I had a pleasant stay at the Ambassador Hotel, stayed for two nights in a "Superior King" room. The staff was accommodating and cheerful. If you are looking for the most modern and "perfect" hotel, this is not the place for you. The hotel is located in an old renovated building downtown, so nothing is level and true, but the room has a very high ceiling […] and feels spacious. The hallways smell a little stale, but the room had a good ventilation system and did not have an odor. Besides the occasional sound of foot steps upstairs and the outside noises, the hotel was peacefully quiet. The dislikes...the hardwood floors in the room were extremely slippery. Walk cautiously. The window in our room looked right at another brick wall. I'm sure if I would have opened the window and stuck out my arm I could have touched the brick wall. When i first checked in i was placed in a room that had not been cleaned yet and i just knew my trip was about to go down hill from there, but when i reported it, it was just a simple mistake made at the front desk and i was relocated with no hassel to a very decent room. The beds where nice, big, and comfortable, the bathroom, […] shower, and towels were clean, the view from my window was great, the valet drivers where nice and we never had to wait long for our vehicle, and the staff around the hotel was very helpful and friendly! So for the amount of time we were actually in the hotel we had no problem but remember it was Mardi Gras so we only checked in- slept- checked out!!!! I would def go back to this hotel.. *oh in the hotel is set up as two different sides, and i do believe one side is older than the other but the side i was on was great, but my friends had a room on the other side in said their floors squeaked and the bed rolls(jus as my first "unclean" room did)- the beds on that side seemed not to be attached to the wall. This hotel was a nice, quaint hotel. Good location, about 10 min walk to Bourbon St. The breakfast wasn't anything special, just a normal continental breakfast, but there was a very good crumb cake.

The walls are paper thin!!! The people next to us came in late slamming doors!!! Great location without the traffic. Across from Harrah's casino, two blocks from Riverwalk. No need for a car.

Well kept property, friendly and helpful staff. Additional $10 for "free" wi-fi and "free" breakfast was a little peculiar. Sports bar that connects to the lobby was staffed with friendly people and a good place to relax in the evenings.

After being invited to a party at a Bourbon Street hotel balcony, this hotel fit the bill for the price. As a place to sleep and get a shower, it was great. As other reviewers noted, its a dated hotel but Harrah's is right up the street, across Poydras from Mother's and a few blocks to the parades on Canal.
