    For our first visit back to New Orleans in many years, we wanted a convenient location for shopping, restaurants and sight-seeing, and Royal Sonesta was... the obvious choice. Fortunately for us it was a great choice for other reasons as well--beautiful lobby, attentive and helpful staff and great jazz in the lounge Desire. We were lucky to be there on a night Jason Marsalis was playing which was a treat. As others have noted, rooms are not large but adequate and most importantly, bed is very comfy!     Overview

    Location.
    The Royal Sonesta Hotel, located on world-famous Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, exudes European style and Southern charm. Jackson Square, where street performers, tarot-card readers, artisans and other entertainers ply their trades, is located 6 blocks from the hotel.

    Hotel Features.
    The seven-story Royal Sonesta Hotel is built in traditional French Quarter style, with gabled windows, French doors, courtyards, and wrought-iron balconies where a passing parade of world travelers along Bourbon Street can be viewed, especially during Mardi Gras. Desire Seafood and Oyster Bar opens directly onto Bourbon Street and emits an Old French diner vibe. The Irving Mayfield Jazz Playhouse hosts live music Thursday through Saturday. PJ's Coffee is also on site. A 24-hour, staffed business center offers fax and photocopy services for a fee. A total of 20,000 square feet of function space accommodates events. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel for a fee. Recreational amenities include a courtyard with a year-round outdoor pool, and a complimentary, limited-hour fitness facility with cardiovascular equipment and free weights. Valet parking is available (surcharge).

    The Royal Sonesta Hotel offers 483 guestrooms, many facing Bourbon Street or the inner courtyard. Select rooms feature gabled windows, French doors and wrought-iron balconies. Free full breakfast,great I may add,did I say I,m a foodie and certified Chef,fresh fruit,eggs ,bacon,little of everything. Free adult beverages at cocktail hour […] and free Fugi bottled water in room. Live orchids growing in room,wow.I watched people come from the street to just take pictured of lobby and the thousand plus cut flowers in lobby which are changed every week. This hotel opened the newest,hottest restrauant in NOLA! In the front of hotel its Bourbon so there is alot of nightlife, go inside to courtyard to enjoy a wonderful pool/bar /tropical mecca. Everything plant, flowers is alive and well taken care of. If you don’t want to leave the party scene just reserve a Bourbon Balcony Room! If you’d like to have to best of both worlds, leave the noise behind and escape to the tranquility of an Interior Poolside or Courtyard Room.     This was our 4th stay at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon St. over a 10 year period. It is a beautiful old Hotel with a southern feel.     Great location but there are some negatives associated with this loaction. Unless you ask for a room away from Bourbon Street, forget about geting any sleep - too noisey. Do NOT drive and expect to park your car - take a taxi if you are flying in to N.O. as you can walk most places or, worst case, take a taxi.     If you want the Bourbon Street and French Quarter for a weekend, this is the place for you. I was disappointed we did not get 2 double beds and had a smaller room with just a king size. But I did book late, and there were lots of things going on in New Orleans. Location is great, service is great, hotel is great for a French Quarter experience.

    Loved the rooms itself but had problems with the air conditioning, water in shower was not warm lamp between beds was broken. These were not major problems but it was inconvient having engineers in and out of the room, The rooms should be inspected each day to make sure they are up to par for the next guest.

    A lovely hotel - rooms very pretty & clean and beds were wonderfully comfortable. We really spent little time in the room but it was great to come home to.We had an inside room so there was absolutely no noise from Bourbon St. Would definately stay again.

The bread is good as well. I have stayed at the Royal Sonesta in the past and enjoyed it. I tried to get a reservation for this trip and ended up at the Monteleone, a nice place as well, but Royal Sonesta is so good, there was only one day on my itinerary that was available at the Royal Sonesta, so I moved hotels just to stay there one night. Well worth the hassle of the move! It's my number 1 choice of places to stay in the French Quarter.
