"Cool hotel for a weekend getaway"
The New Orleans Hyatt Regency is a pretty cool place to stay. It was substantially remodeled in 2011 or 2012 and looks great inside. They installed some great design features (chandeliers, bars, staircases) and gave it a fun, chic atmosphere. The bar has a great local tap beer selection and a good cocktail list. In-room internet access isn't free (I don't think it ever is at the Hyatt), which it should be, but I wasn't expecting free internet, so it wasn't a disappointment. There aren't too many hangouts in the hotel's immediate neighborhood (it's right by the Superdome), but it's walking distance from both the French Quarter and the Lower Garden District, which made it great for us. The hotel was in a great walking location, however in the vicinity, it lacked amenities such as McDonald's, bagel place, etc. Also, terrible construction. The room was very small and unfortunately had a lot of hair in the bathroom and some type of nuts spilled under the bed. However, lobby area was beautiful and it was not that bad of trek from room […] to downstairs. This is a beautiful hotel. It just reopened in the fall of 2011 for the first time after Katrina hit in 2011. The hotel has been completely redone and has all the latest in design and technology. We stayed in room 1067 on the north tower and the room had a strong smell of mold. I didn't sleep due to the smell and as soon as the sun came up we got dressed and left the room as soon as possible.
