In California's wine country, Sonoma revives the senses with spas, wine tasting, top-rated restaurants, and scenic countryside. Vineyards on rolling hills literally sparkle with silver streamers designed to deter birds. Historic sites from the 1800s include Lachryma Montis, the 20-acre estate of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, and the Sonoma Mission, on downtown's charming eight-acre plaza.see all hotels in Sonoma
"A COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT"
This place was a shock. First, It's an old farmhouse which shows it's age. Entering the house which was located far from town, we smelled cat urine. The B and B advertised that we would have a room with a bath, the opposite was true. . Once we entered the house the woman who owns the farmhouse showed us a small room. The double bed and a bookshelf filled […] the space. She then told us that another couple who needed a place to stay would be sharing the bath we were supposed to have to ourselves. Also the bathroom was located in the hallway not privately accessible from the room. The room was small and stuffy. She claimed that Expedia had gotten things confused and so only this room was available, and the other couple who had elected to stay had no problem sharing the bathroom with us. The bathroom had a toilet and a claw bathtub which did not have a shower. Instead there was a hose attached to the bath's faucet and while other types of hand showers have a shower head attached to the other end of the hose this was just a hose. There was no shower curtain. We have stayed in small bed and breakfast before but this was a place we wanted no part of. This woman advertises her home as a hotel but it is far from being anything but a place where you are sharing a room in her private home. There should have been a full disclosure as to what one would expect by paying to stay here. We left without having another place to stay in Sonoma . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would not even stay the night!"
Would not even stay the night. Not as advertised! Drove by the address several times, did not see the house. Address numbers on the mail box post and a Private Property sign were all that was visible from the street. No phone number on the reservation confirmation even called information twice and there is no listing for the Hollyhock Country House. Finally […] tried driving down the dirt driveway, through overgrown yard and found the back door to the isolated old house. Still no sign, knocked several times to be heard over the TV before lady came to the door. House was dark and smelly. I said I was looking for the Hollyhock Country House hoping for direction and to my surprise she said this was it. She showed me a small room and when I asked where the bathroom was, she directed me around the corner down the hall to the “guest” bathroom. I asked where the pool was and she just laughed and said there wasn’t one. There was no pool or gardens as stated on the website. We did not feel at all safe or comfortable and ended up driving all the way back to my daughters to spend the night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Left and could not go back"
We had reservations for this "B&B" and were totally NOT happy. It was out 1 year wedding anniversary and ended up staying on a friends couch to avoid returning to the Hollyhock. There was NO Shower, we were shown to our room that was small and smelled. We felt very uncomfortable from the first moment we walked in the back door. We were shown no garden, […] no pool, no lobby/ fireplace.... just our OLD, uncomfortable, smelly room. My husband and I had to leave for dinner and could not return. Instead we called a friend and stayed with them, t least they had a shower and we felt welcome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"An old house"
There's a difference between old and antique. This home was old. It was dusty. Smelled old. The floors creeked when you walked. The bathroom down the hall only a clawfoot bathtub. No shower. Breakfast was juice and crossiants and muffins. The yard outside was unkept. The old lady was nice. But it was much over priced. It really felt like staying in […] a strangers house. We felt akward the whole time Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
