For the price the hotel is a good value. The handicap accessible room has a shower/tub with plenty of good grab bars and a chair to use. The room was clean - only problem was smell of cigarette smoke. Didn't realize we were on smoking floor. An often underappreciated feature of La Quinta inns is that many of their locations, such as this one in Homewood, have internal hallways with locking exterior doors. As an admittedly paranoid traveler, I prefer to avoid motels with the outside-hallway design where the entire exterior wall consists of a door, windows, and the heating/cooling unit. This […] La Quinta is in a decent, generic strip mall suburbia part of Birmingham, so lone travelers should feel fairly safe anyway. This is definitely more of a business traveler's hotel than a place for families. The room was easily big enough for one to two adults, but smaller than you'd see at a more vacation-oriented hotel. The only seating (aside from the beds) where two padded chairs at a small desk-like table. I really appreciated having a hard-wired internet connection that was surprisingly fast for being free with the room. Check-in/out was quick and hassle free, even having booked online only about 4 hours before arrival. I'd stay here again for a business trip of up to a few nights. Not really the hotels fault but I got there and they only had a smoking room and unfortunately for me my alergys had falred up the day before. Hotel.com was gracious enough to allow me to go look for another hotel but none to be found close enough. I cannot believe the state of the non smoking rooms at this hotel, halls not airconditioned room had change […] on the dresser, someones pen and scratch pad (I was afraid they may have double booked so I put the chain on the door), the rest of the hotel was fine but this area even had an elevator of its own. I was one of the very first guests to stay at this hotel at the grand opening years ago and have stayed here at least four other times on business trips, etc. I have always been impressed with the level of cleanliness in the rooms and this last trip was no exception. The staff was very helpful and polite, there were plenty of towels, soap and coffee […] in the room and a free breakfast in the lobby to boot. Booking through Expedia is always painless -- and that's exactly what I want when I travel. The only minus was the obvious wear & tear beginning to show around the hotel itself, i.e; the rear security door latch was broken, some peeling paint, tired carpet, worn elevator, etc. These things are just superficial of course, but it brings the entire hotel down one peg on the 'quality' meter. Checked in and tried to get internet, saw the little box on the desk that had a light blinking to indicate activity and had assumed wireless connection. after trying for quite a while, went down to the front desk and they said I should use the cable attached to the back of the box. I informed them there was no cable but went back to check to be sure. […] Went out to dinner and came back to cable waiting for me at front desk, tried it and still no internet, tried calling the front desk, and realized there were no phone cables to either phone, went down and they went to another room and borrowed some. had to use phone by bed to wire the internet as the one by the desk did not work. Also, apparently heat did not work as thermostat said 60 degrees and whether i set heat to 68, 70, 75 or 78, still no hot air came out of wall unit. Assumed it was a heat pump and the 30 degree weather was too cold. Also, my keys did not work well in the door locks. over all, not satisfied and will not stay there again. "Not a bad hotel but a really crappy neighborhood"
This hotel is near the freeway but pretty well insulated so you don't get too bothered at night. The rooms are relatively large, well appointed and have a large desk and work area for business needs. Oh, yeah: FREE INTERNET. The threadbare breakfast was meh, but up to what you would expect with this rate. Among all the hotels at this room rate, the […] La Quinta did a very good job and I can recommend it for business and single travelers. Other than the pool, it doesn't have much to recommend for families so I can't recommend it for that. The TV had very spotty cable, and wasn't showing too many channels. Noise was minimal in the hallways and common areas. You get a good night's sleep, which is what matters most. Occasionally I would get the wake up call an hour earlier than usual, or the front desk would be understaffed, but overall a pretty good stay. I was in town for an exam and was studying and trying to rest during most of my stay, and the staff were really happy to provide what I needed at all times to make sure I was comfortable. The girl at the front even made sure I got a room at the back of the building away from the traffic. The neighborhood is boring, and most places in the area close early.
