The room was nice and the location is perfect when visiting Sewanee; however, the hotel allows workers to stay in rooms. Not a big problem, except they partied HARD both nights above and around us until 2 and 3 am. Unacceptable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Recommendation with a caveat"
We have stayed here a few times due to proximity to the University of the South. Our last visit was disturbing as both nights hotel employees stayed above our room and LOUDLY partied until 2 and 3 am- combined with other revelers outside and a large dog barking within their room Even when we called the front desk the party continued for another hour. "time for a make-over!"
We recently stayed at the Smoke House Lodge because it is convenient to Sewanee where our daughter is attending college. There are few choices in the area. The hotel has become very run down--rickety stairs in disrepair, frayed carpet rolling up at the edges and pulling away from the wall, tired mattresses and springs, and a general damp musty feel […] in our room. "LOCATION & surrounding attractions make this hotel"
Staff was friendly. The room was clean upon check in. However that was the only day it was cleaned. We just received fresh towels every day we were there but that was it. It didn't matter what time of day it was, the cleaning staff was always on a smoke break. The only thing that makes this place worthwhile is it's accessibility to all of the state […] parks.
