Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Salt Lake City-Fort Union

This hotel was our home base for a one-week ski trip, and we found it very convenient for access to Snowbird, Alta, and other SLC area ski resorts - about 20 minutes from hotel to Snowbird! Only complaints are that the A/C is shared between the main room and the bedroom in the suite, so family members sleeping on the pull-out couch were freezing and […] I was warm in the bedroom. Also, the hotel had a policy of bringing out the trash at 4:00 am, they had the night desk clerk haul it out in a cart with plastic wheels that echoed through the courtyard and it woke me up every morning (he made several trips to the dumpster!). I mentioned it to the desk staff, so maybe they'll fix that little problem - not sure why the dayshift cleaners couldn't haul out the trash! Overall, very nice place and would stay there again. Stayed in one bedroom suite. One bedroom with TV and living room/kitchen area with pullout couch with a second TV. Good channel selection on TVs. Not flat screen. Kitchen has full size refrigerator, dishwasher, and two electric burners. Well stocked kitchen with glasses, plates, mugs, salt & pepper, pans, dish soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels, basic […] cooking utensils. Location is very good. Close to major freeways with many restaurants and stores nearby. Also close to skiing. Snowbird and Alta about 20 minutes drive. Parking is OK and hotel has an elevator. Good, free WiFi Read more

Started with TV missing remote and having to change rooms to get a working one. It was right across the hall and the manager was prompt on helping us. In the new room the shower curtain had been replaced ( moved out further from the shower) leaving only about 1 1/2 inches if the curtain hanging in the tub. Had to be very careful to avoid flooding bathroom […] floor. In the morning, the water only heated to a very mild warm . Definitely not hot. When the desk manager was told his response was, "Yeah, quite a few people have said this lately," accompanied by a shrug. Motel 6 on 9th east is only $5 more and gives you breakfast and hot water. Very impressed with the accomodations and especially the staff. Loved the ice maker in the refrigerator. The recliner was very comfortable, but the bed was a little too soft for me. The continental breakfast ended before we got up on Saturday, so if it could go a little later, that would be nice. I have booked through hotels.com several times with no issues. Upon discovering the room I had been assigned was a downgrade from what I booked I informed the front desk. At the front desk I was told that booking through this site only resrved a rate but not a particular room, never had this problem before with other hotels.com bookings. I was told […] that I had received such a good rate the manager had moved me to the lower grade room because I didn't deserve a nicer room for what I had paid. Followed by a good guilt trip about how she went ahead and "gave" me the upgrade even though I paid so little for the room. Okay. First off - if they didn't like the rate they need totake that up with the 3rd party that gave me the rate, not me the customer. Why make the customer feel like they did something wrong, hated staying here because of the way I was treated. Secondly, I checked their own web-site and the rate they were advertising was just a slight tad higher than what I had pad not much more at all. As for the hotel, it was decent but not worth much more than I paid. I had to go outside one night and turn off my car alarm, then watched from my window a man that was outside smoking when I went outside attempt to open 2 other cars. As well as waking to a swat team outside the hotel in the morning. Won't stay at another Hawthorne Suite again, mostly because of the room change. Read more

Only disappointment was that I booked another room as I thought the kids were coming up, but when I cancelled it the next day I was informed that if I didn't cancel the room by 6pm on Dec. 22 I would not get a full refund although it was still three days before Christmas and the Hotel was certainly not full. I will make sure I read all the small print […] as usually as long as you cancel the reservation 24 hours in advance you get a full refund. Only received 50%. Gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis, Suite hat leider nur ein Queensbett (steht aber auch so in der Beschreibung) und ein Sofabett mit einer extrem weichen "Matraze", das auch noch direkt neben der Klimaanlage steht (Heizung), die alle 5 Minuten mit Getöse anspringt. Als Ausgangspunkt zu den Ski areas sehr gut geegnet.
