"Close to Careytown"
The hotel is average in cleanliness and maintenance. It seems to be a party hotel - meaning that on the weekends groups rent out the ballrooms for rap parties and there is also quite a bit of noise in the halls. Appears to be in a sketchy neighborhood when pulling up, but you can see they are trying to make improvements to the place. "Good value for what it is"
I have stayed at this hotel a number of times over the past ten years and will stay here again. My son calls it craptastic, and I think that is a fair description. The premises are a little shabby, but clean, and the staff is courteous and helpful. It is usually quiet, and the breakfast room is very pleasant. Breakfast is about what one would expect, […] but it is free and offers decent variety. I do love that the windows can actually be opened. Unfortunately, that is necessary, because the rooms - even those that are supposedly smoke-free - definitely smell of smoke. My eyes were burning the first night before I was able to have the windows open long enough. This has been the case in most of the rooms I have occupied at this hotel. Parking is free and plentiful, but the parking area is dark and the neighborhood is not the best. On the other hand, it is a terrific location, which is why I stay here. Right on Broad Street, minutes from Careytown, downtown, the Fan, and easy access to I-64 and all points in and around Richmond. For the price, location, and friendliness of staff, it can't be beat. This was an older hotel. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Age of hotel shows in fixtures and in outlets. It was difficult to charge telephones and computer. "Close to Downtown"
This hotel had everything I needed--a clean, bug-free bed and a very comfortable mattress. The bathroom had to be the tiniest I have ever seen in a hotel, but it was functional and the shower had excellent pressure. The staff was extremely friendly, especially the maids who spoke to every single guest they came in contact with in the hallways and were […] nice enough to give us a few extra towels on request. My only complaints would be that my room was next to the soda and ice machines and that the doors aren't very thick. Well, either that or my neighbors just had really big mouths and decided to hold a very loud conversation right outside my door at an ungodly hour in the morning. The other thing would be the two-story parking lot. The second story was closed while we were there and only the half of the ground level--closest to the entrance--was lit.
