Pacific Edge Hotel on Laguna Beach, a Joie de Vivre Hotel

We came in from Indiana to visit family,and I wanted to stay close to the ocean. The first room we got was one of the older beach front rooms. The view was spectacular second too none the balcony was right over the sand and serf you could hear the role of the ocean all night long. However the rooms walls were very dirty and the bathroom was tiny and […] we couldn't turn on the shower Without a fight or make the tub work they were all corroded the room was very old and had not been updated. Linens were all clean it wasn't that bad but we decided to upgrade to the new building that had just been renovated. The view was good it wasn't quite as good as the old building a little bit further set back, but it was still wonderful we had a great stay . It was quite a bit more money to upgrade the room for me I felt it was worth it. We only get to see the beach every few years. It was a wonderful stay. The front desk people were all friendly courteous and very helpful .Location was fabulous walking distance to everything had a wonderful stay. When they remodel all the buildings it will be perfect On The downside valet parking was a must at $24 a day and We stayed six days, and every time you picked up your car you felt like you had to tip the guys. This was out first time to this hotel. The staff was very nice and to our surprise a crib was supplied for our baby plus they left him a little stuffed animal. Very nice room and steps from the beach. The only thing is we were not in a beachfront room so we wanted to go sit on a deck and they had no deck. Really confused on this one. Cool location next to the beach. Beach experience was really enhanced by the Beach Attendant. Everything you need to enjoy a day at the beach is available. Parking is a mess and costs additional per day to valet. Condition of the hotel is dated. Bathroom and kitchen need major remodel. TV did not work and could never get […] the internet to work. The location of the hotel was excellent. The actual room was adequate at best. The water in the shower was hard to regulate, the walls had scuffs, there was barely enough furniture in the room. The pool restrooms were unkept. The staff were friendly and accomodating.

If you are staying over the cabanas, they may have a party down there that will be loud enough to ruin any oceanfront experience. One night the party went on until 10pm, so loud we had to yell to speak on our balcony.

The hotel had been renovated since our last stay over a year ago. The facelift was okay, but it is still an old hotel on the beach. But it is literally ON THE BEACH. A semi private beach with chair and towel service... awesome to have while on Vacation with 2 little kids. We also enjoy their pool and hot tub since the ocean was too cold. No need spending any keystrokes carrying on about it, if you are in Laguna, this IS the best location. That being said, do not expect much as far as room quality. I have done remodels, paint does not qualify as a remodel. I like IKEA furniture for the right application, but it will not withstand the wear of daily hotel patrons. Anyway, I could go on, […] but the reality is that joie de vivre has a real gem here that if they could invest a little into, they could demand another $100 a night from. Anyway, visitors, do not be surprised to be greeted by the smell of urine(another questionable choice...why allow pets?) or broken fixtures, burnt out light bulbs, damaged, worn furniture, arrive with low expectations and really enjoy the fantastic setting. I stayed here for a "mommy and me" trip with my 9 year old son. We loved the hotel! The staff was super friendly, very helpful, and made us feel at home there- and in Laguna Beach. The location is fabulous and walking distance to anywhere...the beach access and restaurants were amazing!

Really is on the beach. Valet is 20 tacked onto your bill, no other overnight parking available. Nice to hear the ocean waves at night, but you can also hear everyone coming and going, so if you are a light sleeper, it might be a problem. Definitely going back however, as they take dogs (LARGE) with no pet fee!

I stay in a one bedroom suite with a queen, which wasn't bad, but honestly a little overpriced. The A/C on room 11 never work, so we opened the sliding door, also the balcony are not for families with little children. The walking distance to the beach is great and there's plenty of shopping. For breakfast we walk like 3 blocks down and we found a great […] breakfast cafe with mimosas at $3. The place looks old like it stayed in the 70's. And $20 a day per valet. We stay on sept 11 which it was a busy weekend down there, no complaints about noises. Honestly I'll prefer to stay in a different hotel even if I have to walk longer to the beach. Read more

We had a bad experience at this hotel from the outset, when I had to completely unpack our luggage from the car. When I went inside to find a bellman or a luggage dolly, I returned to witness someone running over our luggage as he was backing out of a parking spot. The valet staff was present, but did nothing to assist, and seemed more inclined to deny […] that anything had even happened. We had a good stay at this hotel. It's older but nice. We didn't like the valet parking as they took our car and basically parked it 500 ft away. Kind of a waste of time and money to us. Other than that, if you want a hotel on the beach, this is great. They offered chairs, towels and beach toys for the kids as well. Overall, good.

We picked this hotel because it was on the beach. We knew the hotel was not going to be a big resort. We had three rooms, all on the highway side. Some of us got more sleep than others. If your a light sleeper, don't book a villiage room. It's an older hotel that could use some polishing up. Ideal location...the beach was literally steps away. Incredible service at the beach, hotel staff was onsite to provide us with lounge chairs and umbrellas. If you are looking for an affordable stay in Laguna, this is probably the least expensive room you will get. Room is very small with a stand up shower. Pacific Coast Highway noise is a bit of an issue in the am. Our tv didnt work, but they did offer to move our room. staff is friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. We had a great time we only stayed one night but it sure seemed like 3 or 4 days the food at the resteraunt on sight was horrific after a 45 minute wait but there is a taco bell and kfc near by. As much as I love the location of this hotel, I am not impressed with the changes. The new decor does not fit with the beach location, valet parking is a joke and charging $20 a night to park is just silly. I am also shocked at the increased prices. We've stayed at this hotel when it was Vacation Village last year. Since it has new owners, it seems to have gone downhill. The room was not nice for what we paid for it. The electric lock on the door broke, so we couldn't get in to our room, the towel rack fell off the wall by itself, the decorations were hodgepodge and didn't flow. Oh my goodness! Where do I begin? This place was a huge disappointment! The rooms felt dank, dark , old and gloomy. Even tho' they had tried to brighten them up with light colored paint, it was still a dump! The air conditioners were noisy, rusty and very aged. The tile was old, and not that clean looking . Windows were old, and several of our group's […] windows actually looked out to alleys/washways filled with sewage and trash! I felt as if we were staying in Old Mexico! Part of our group spent the extra money for get a "beach front SUITE with a deck. " Laughable! The noise from construction was so bad, we couldn't even enjoy the deck at all! The pounding, grinding, sawing , hammering and swearing, was just awful! Then, there were parades of people "showing" groups of people the set-up for the future cabana rooms for weddings, etc. When we got there we had to ask for deck chairs, and a deck table because they had just had a wedding there the day before. Were they not expecting us? ( sarcasm!) And SUITE? It was one room with a bed and two dirty chairs with a little table, and a few out-dated applicances stacked against the wall. The appliances in the "kitchenette" were so old and out-dated, they could have been from the fifties for all we knew. And the cupboards were far from clean! We had to ask for a microwave as well as more towels even tho' we had checked in 6 people. There was ONE OLD BATHROOM , and the second bedroom was back in a very dark section with one window looking out to the brick wall/washway and the other window looking out to BARS and weeds. A person with true claustrophobia would have NOT been able to stay there! The ice machine was located through a dark, dank, gloomy, scary garage clear up another level. NOT convenient to say the least! The room coffee pot was very nice, for ONE cup at a time. After reading the other reviews I booked this hotel. I didn't get the Oceanfront room , I figured how bad could the Village View Room be??? Reviews are correct! After checking into the room I immediately called for an upgrade! If you are vacationing and only care about the location to Laguna Beach then the Village rooms are fine. BUT if you are wanting […] the sound of the ocean and all that entails.. pay the extra money for the Oceanfront rooms. They are fantastic! The Villlage rooms are VERY small. I was traveling with my husband and 2 small boys (ages 6 & 7) There was no room in the Village room for us & our luggage. The location is fantastic and for the price of their Oceanfront rooms you can't beat it! I travel frequently and never stay at a Motel 6, generally my rule is at least a 3 star hotel!
