"This hotel is perfectly located"
I stayed at this hotel in February and am generally satisfied with it. The location is perfect; a 5 minute walk to the beach and nightlife on Ocean Drive. My only surprise was how small the room was and the bathroom was tiny. "Is the location really worth oversighting all the negatives?"
PROS: Location, connecting seafod restaurant Catch 21, complimentary drinks in hotel lobby, pool location and smoking area setup, Bath and Body Works vanity product lines CONS: Housekeeping (guaranteed to steal something from your room and dont even bother the staff unless its in their "back room safe"), poor hotel structuring and lack of elevator […] (uncomfortable stairs and no help in sight), slow internet (my gma moves faster than their wifi), checking in (bags fill the lobby daily cause "rooms arent ready yet"), check-out time (should be later considering the hotel is a high traveler attraction), random amenities setup (gym in one bldg, computer area in another, vending practically scarce), no smoking policy (having to come to a busy miranda to have a nightly cigarette in super busy miami isnt exactly vacation friendly), lack of ATM, staffing (the line at the front desk was ALWAYS packed, as if there isnt anyone looking for work in sobe), front desk staff (rushed customers through transactions; always being interrrupted by the phone; one rep didnt even know the number to catch 21)...i think that's everything lol! I got a steal of a deal on this hotel room - right in the middle of South Beach, the Catch 10 restaurant on site is awesome - we fell in love with restaurant staff. I had a very horrible experience w/the service. However, the location of the hotel is awesome. Right in the middle of all of the club action. Beach is a couple blocks away! Along with all restaurants a few blocks away! What happened : When we checked in, the representative informed me that although I reserved a room with 2 queen beds, they were not […] available. Therefore, we were given two separate rooms. In addition, upon arrival to the room, the key did not work because the door was jammed/broken. We had to ask security to assist with opening the door. When he was unable to do so, we had to have the representative come to the room and try. She was unable to open the door and I had to stay in the other room until my room door was fixed. The next day, I returned from the beach to find that my room key had been disconnected. The maid had mistakenly deactivated my key because she thought that I had checked out (although all of my belongings were still in the room). So we were then inconvenienced for the third time and had to walk to the main building to confront the representative and manager about all of the issues I had experienced during the two days I had been there. The manager contested that they solved every problem/issue that we had and that there was nothing else for him to do. He refused to provide any monetary compensation for the interruption of my short vacation. He was very rude and refused to assist me any further because he felt that there were no other issues. Our key cards would often not work and while they made our beds every day, housekeeping never changed our sheets or cleaned anything. The location was GREAT - an easy walk to lots of restaurants (in all price ranges) and the beach, bike/moped rentals and casual shopping. Short walk or ride to Lincoln Rd. Mall and Espanola Way restaurants/shopping. Short term bicycle rental across the street. My comments about the room mainly concern it's functionality: i.e. the designer of the washroom didn't do a very good job - the shower curtain, although done in very nice matching colors didn't keep the water from the shower going onto the floor (basically it wasn't long/wide enough). Also the wash basin and stand were poorly selected in that they didn't provide any room for any personal belongings such as a shaving-kit or makeup bags or a place to put the hand soap. They didn't even have a decent towel rack/bar/ring - just some cheap hooks on the back of the door (and not even chromed) - guess they ran out of money! The bathroom had lots of room but just a poor design regarding functionality. Talking about functionality, the location of the air conditioner was extremely poor. Who ever puts an air conditioner on the floor?? This one was mounted so low it was barely off the floor - the effect was that it had to work extremely hard to cool the room (totally cooling inefficiency and a waste of energy) Again poorly designed. My biggest disappointment was that the elevator was not working (actually appearing that it hadn't worked in some time). Not a good thing for guests after walking/shopping all day. It would be nice to get a ride up to your floor. Also when I checked in I asked for a quiet room and they told me my room was. However it turned out not to be. It was Room 311.
