"Great location but rundown inside..."
Let me start by saying that you cannot beat the location of the San Juan.It is literally right in front of the Delano on Collins.Only one block away from Lincoln and its restaurants it is an ideal spot in South Beach. That is where the good things end unfortunately. The building is old and creaky, the elevator is also very old and the hall floors make […] noise as you walk .The rooms are from a one star hotel, sheets and other beddings are about as thin as you can imagine and the floor to floor carpet smelled of mold.My room gave to the back where a huge HVAC system made an annoying noise night and day.The room had a flat screen TV but I lost signal the first day of my stay and never got it back.To summarize;great hotel for students and young people that do not mind camping out in a barely adequate room and for people for which location is the ONLY thing that matters. "Don't forget your clock, tv and radio"
This is a well worn hotel needing much upgrading. My room had a tv that only rarely had english speaking programs, no radio, no tv guide, no clock, no alarm, no way of turning off the a/c, no bedside light, had to turn light off at the door then feel your way to the bed. No coffee making facilities and charged me $25 a day to park my car. The bed was […] clean and towels changed daily. Room was quiet. Carpet need replacing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The San Juan Hotel, Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL"
Unfortunately, the online pictures/description of the San Juan didnt live up to the actual experience of living there. The photographer who took the photos that were online must have been a magician. The hotel itself has to be at least 50 - 60 years old and shows every day of it. Again, unfortunately, the owners dont seem to have any pride of ownership. […] There is no off street parking offered. Therefore you are forced to either park in a local parking garage to the tune of $16 a day or a parking lot behind the hotel for $30 a day. The hotel itself is a relic of the "art deco" era, with no updating or renovations whatsoever. The carpeting in the hallways looked like it was the original carpet when the hotel was built. Cleanliness was minimal. In the room itself, there was no temperature control, so cold air continued to blow out through the one vent until I closed it. On the plus side the bathroom fixturing was updated, Euro-style, within the tiny bathroom. As with most stays in Miami, one would be advised to brush up on your Spanish. Definitely would not stay at this place again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"not very nice hotel"
This was our first visit in Miami and we stayed there for 6 days. We had a great time and we definitely will back there. We were looking for a not too expensive hotel and San Juan is one of these hotels. Overall we didn't really like this hotel because we came during renovations and there was a lot of noise every morning starting from 7 AM. The room […] wasn't in the best conditions and needs renovations but the bathroom was very nice and clean. Some staff working there was very nice, some not so much. The swimming pool was very dirty. If you are looking for a cheap hotel, there are plenty of them on the same street and they look much nicer than the San Juan. On the other hand if you do not have kids and looking for a hotel only for a night, this hotel is not so bed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Cheap, dirty but good location"
Old an dirty hotel. Arrived at 11 am but checked in at 2 pm. Room pretty clean, remodeled bathroom but everything else is old and worn. Smells as mildew. TV is small with limited number of channels. I could see through my window just a very closed building under construction-noise all day long! On the other hand, personnel is friendly. They changed […] my linings every day. The location of the hotel is fantastic: on Airport Shuttle Bus route, two blocks away from Lincoln Mall, Ocean Drive Art Deco Strip and one block away from the beach! Recommend for people on a budget or for those don't care to much about comfort: in fact you are here not to stay in a hotel room! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"San Juan Hotel - Needs Help!"
This hotel is in a great area however the amenities are far from what one would expect. Everything is very outdated. There isn't even a thermostat to control the temperature for each room. The beds are noisy and the carpet was filthy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was falling apart. Walls were crumbling, there was literally pieces of dry wall crumbled on the floor. Patches of paint that didn't match all over the walls. Hole in the floor covered by carpet. Beds were uncomfortable and most likely not washed since I found numerous hairs under the blankets and sheets. The room and entire hotel has a old […] attic smell and after an hour in the room I began sneezing and congested. Might have been from the mold that was visible on the ceilings and walls poorly covered by paint. The only good thing was that it was located in the best spot. But next time I come to SB I will never stay here again. This hotel is cheap for a reason. So expect it Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"San Juan"
While the bathroom was very nice, the carpet in the rest of the room was absolutely disgusting: filthy, smelly, ripped in places, and peeling back from the floor in others. The seal around the exterior door was so bad we could actually see the beds from outside with the door closed. The gap at the bottom of the door must must have been an inch. When […] it rained, water came in and the carpet was soaked. There were no dishes, glasses, flatware, cups, pots, pans, or cooking implements in the "kitchenette". The stove, cupboards, drawers, and refrigerator were not clean. The radio in the pool area next to our room was blasting until 2am, and was turned back on at 8am. I would not stay here again and would not recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"San Juan Hotel, Miami Beach, FL"
Very drab exterior. Corridors and carpet appeared dirty. The ads are misleading : not close to beach, but some distance; across a busy srteet. It was an embarrassment for me since I booked it after reading some positive reviews. "Dirty, clammy and noisome"
The hotel was very dirty including the rooms, escalator and the corridor. The furniture inside the room were covered by a thick layer of dust. The bed was like a little wet due to the moisture inside the hotel. Everywhere in that hotel smells really bad that I can't tell. There was no A/C control inside the rooms so you are not allowed to turn off the […] A/C. The room was such cold that my girlfriend was sleeping with her jacket. There was no coffee or tea machine inside the hotel and you have to walk more than 1 block to get something to drink. The vending machine near the lobby is full of dated chips that can brake your teeth if you try to eat. The escalator was like it could fall down any moment and the last maintenance date of it was December 2010. The housekeepers of the hotel was doing their job while singing Mexican songs loudly that wakes you up not later than 11 am. I would seriously not recommend this hotel. Only good thing about the hotel is it is located at the heat of downtown of Miami Beach. By the way, the hotel does not have parking lot. You have to pay at least $16 (this is the cheapest one I found) per day for the paring lot which is more than 2 blocks away. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"San Juan Hotel"
I read the reviews before booking the hotel and I had high hopes that the reviewers were just being hyper critical. Boy was I wrong. The first thing you notice is the smell. There is a detergent like smell that is reminiscent of Tijuana. The lobby is updated and there is ambient music playing in the background. That was pleasant. When we walked into […] the room, the window was open and there was scaffolding next to the exterior wall where someone could have just climbed through. The bed was very uncomfortable and noisy.. The sheets were rough and there was not ample closet space. The bathroom, however, was gorgeous. So nice in fact that it seemed like you walked through a portal into another dimension when you entered. There were no amenities that were usable(combination shampoo/conditioner/body wash) and the towels were small and thin. If you are, however, desperate to be near the action and do not mind roughing it, the location is fantastic. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"You get what you pay for at San Juan"
You get what you pay for with the San Juan Hotel. The outside looked a little scary and the building next door is condemned . If I wasn't staying with my husband I would have been concerned. From the moment we pulled up I was worried. The place next door was condemned. This one is probably not far from it. Hotel is small and in desperate need of updating. At the very least a paint job. "Not Impressed"
The hotel looked run-down. The lady at the front was an old spanish lady. She was very nice. I instantly recognized a bleach smell upon entering the lobby. We were on the third floor at the end of the hallway. The hallway smelled quite nice, but while in the hallway you could hear everything going on in the rooms. I realized off the bat, the one of […] the two keycards she gave me didn't even work and had trouble initially with the other one. Once inside the room, it was a shabby old room with a cheap television. On the other hand, the bed was clean and comfortable. The carpets seemed a bit dirty. I didn't like to step on them personally unless I had shoes on. The bathroom was the gem of the room though. It seems to have been renovated as of late and was truly excellent. Yet another problem I had with this place was that around 9AM, they had people I guess renovating outside our hotel window. Mind you it was a SATURDAY morning. The whole side of the hotel was having work done and it was quite disturbing to have been woken up by pounding and drilling. You would think they could do this during the check out and check in times. I would not stay here again. It was a room we booked during Art Basel. As far as location, it was the only perk. "Will not be returning"
Felt like something out of a horror movie...on arrival the front of house security guy was lovely, the location was perfect but the room was filthy and some of the other clientele were very intimidating (not the San Juan's fault, granted). Everywhere we stood there was dirt and bits on the floor then when we pushed the lumpy beds together there was […] grime behind the beds! Well I went on to see the reviews and the were mixed. When we arrived I saw that the hotel had large holes cut out in them and construction was being done. When we got inside it smelled of heavy bleach and the lobby looked nothing like what it did in the picture. It is a very old hotel that they tried to sugar coat to make it look nice. when i got to […] my room it was very old with stained up rugs and drapes. The celing was all cracked and stained as well. This hotel is run down & in need of a complete renovation (the bathroom was recently updated but very small). Although it's in a good location & walking distance to all the major hot spots, that's all it has going for it --location. It's worth paying a bit extra to stay at a nicer hotel. "San Juan visit June 2011"
The location of this hotel is very good and when we read the reviews before booking, most of the negative ones were about the car park which doesn't affect us. BUT... From when we arrived we did not have lights in the main bedroom area and this was not fixed during our stay after we reported it on the first night (we stayed 3 nights). AND on the final […] night we found fly larvae/maggots in the shower/ coming out of the walls in the bathroom. We reported this and a friendly man tried to help us and get rid of them but he didn't really have any idea of how to do this properly. We asked to use another shower as ours had clearly not been cleaned for the duration of our stay and goodness knows how long before but were refused. This put a dampner on our last night in Miami and over shadowed our other better experiences of miami. Cleaning standards need to be thoroughly improved before we would ever stay again or recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
You definitely get what you pay for. When we walked in the hotel had a distinct clean smell, maybe from all the cleaning products to mask the smoke? Also, we ask for a cab to the cruise port and I think our taxi driver took us the long way, because when we came back it was significantly less. Maybe the cab driver and owner knew each other, because they […] definitely seemed buddy buddy. So maybe don't take a cab with them? El Hotel San Juan es un hotel muy cutre, pero que se encuentra bien localizado en Miami Beach. La limpieza de las habitaciones deja mucho que desear (moqueta sucia y sábanas y toallas con manchas).
