"PARKING WARNING"
They do not have hotel parking. Either use the Valet from the next door hotel that cost $32 a night or use the public lot across the street and have to pay a meter. The front door guy didn't show any signs of concern on what I was saying. His response was, "what you want me to do". So needless to say because of the holiday and the non-vacancy we stayed. […] But we stayed across the street as it was cheaper to pay the meter. The room was large, the living room a little sparsely furnished and could have used a little more artwork. The only truly irritating issute was the Resort Fee of $15/day at check-in. "Short Stay"
I arrived at Hotel Astor for a one-night stay prior to leaving for a cruise. The hotel entrance was hidden behind a bunch of bushes which made if difficult to locate. Upon entry, the gentleman at the front desk was extremely courteous & helpful. When I arrived at the room, I immediately wanted to return to the desk for a refund. The room was extremely […] small and outdated. There was a window that faced a back alley & a small 20" TV mounted on the wall. Other than that there wasn't really much to it. It was clean but if I had to stay for more than one night I definitely would've opted for a different hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great location. Hotel is OK overall. Very quiet despite central location. Bedding is good quality. "good hotel for a few days"
The one bedroom suite was okay but could have did without the cracked floor in bathroom and cracked sink. Also, a fridge or microwave would have been great if one or both was in the room. Oh and the glass door was only a half of piece of glass for the tub. The sliding door was missing I guess...smh! Other than that it was an okay stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

The staff at the hotel was excellent and the restaurant in the lobby looked very nice. I actually did not eat at therestaurant but I did have a cappuccino which was very good. The room was not good. "Great location, but rough around the edges"
The location was perfect - once I parked the car I never used it because I could walk everywhere! It is a vintage hotel with vintage charm, but it could use some updates, mainly in the bathroom with old fixtures and pipes (e.g. the hot water in the tub turned on randomly in the middle of the night, but the following day I had only luke-warm water with […] which to shower). The restaurant was not open for business, which was also a disappointment. A quaint place, the price was good, but not 4-star quality overall. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Hotel Astor"
We had booked a room with two double beds, being a family of two adults and two kids. However, when we arrived we were told that no such room was available. The receptionist agreed to let us have a 'suite' with one double bed and a sofa bed for the kids. This was fine but not ideal, as the sofa bed wasn't really big enough for two people. We also had […] to put up with the bathroom water pipes whining every five minutes. I found no information about wifi use in the hotel so enquired at reception. I was given a password but it didn't work for any of the networks in our room. It turned out that we could only use our wifi while in the lobby. The reason given by a second receptionist was that they were having problems with the routers. The location of the hotel is in a really seedy part of Washington Avenue. When my kids and I went for an early evening walk along this road we passed numerous youths shouting out expletives, sex shops, which my youngest son tried to enter because he saw some DVDs and thought he might be able to buy aThomas the Tankengine one. Cars pulled up shouting out at female passers by - all in all, it was no place to be with your kids. We hardly slept at night because of all the party goers passing by at 3 and 4 in the morning. It left a really disappointing feeling about Miami for my wife and I, which was a shame because we'd really been looking forward to going. I'd also like to warn other travellers NOT to order any seafood platters which are recommended to you at nearby restaurants in Oceans Drive. We were stung for $150 for one platter! However, this does not reflect in any way upon the hotel's restaurant, in which we had really good food and service at a reasonable price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Its okay, but wouldn't return"
After travelling eleven hours with flight delays and a long cab ride we finally arrived at the Astor. We had seven pieces of luggage, and no luggage carts are provided let alone help with bags to the room. We were on the first floor, so no elevator was needed. HOWEVER we soon discovered we had to lug each bag up two sets of stairs. When you pay for […] s suite, you would think you could get some help. Apparently not. It was not at all what we had hoped. BTW, Our room didnt even have a room number on it so we were totally confused and turned around, had to go back to the check in desk for directions again. We opened the door and the first 'separate' room had a couch, long counter with a sink and the air conditioning unit which is one of those ones you connect to the window. It couldn't be moved, and was not in the part of the 'suite' where the bed is. Bathroom terribly small with a really weird corner shower. My husband barely fit inside. The sink faucet was wiggling loose, and areas of the ceiling throughout had patchwork needing repair. The light about the sink was out, so made it very difficult to put in contact lenses and apply mascara, but I digress. The bed was somewhat comfortable, a small television, an armoire that had a closet mirror but no lighting if you wanted to use that as an extra are to get ready. Super inconvenient. The weirdest thing of all is there was NO PHONE in the room. If you want to pay an extra 2.50 per night they will bring you one... ??? Woke up to construction noise on the balcony directly across the alley outside our window. The second morning we were awakened by an incessantly squawking quarreling flock of little green wild parrots. We did not like the fact that air conditioning 'unit' was not in the main sleeping area. Who is gonna hang out on the couch in the small adjacent room when the comfort and tv are around the corner. "Spacious room but sparse amenities"
Much like everyone else, there were good and not so good things about Hotel Astor. First, the good: 1. Location. Just a few blocks from the beach, it was a nice area. Close to boutique shopping & restaurants. 2. Spacious rooms. We only needed 2 double beds, but when we got to our room, we had 2 double beds and 1 king bed. This room was HUGE. 3. Front […] desk staff. Very friendly and willing to help and offer suggestions on where to eat, things to do, etc. We weren't there very long as we were in town for the marathon, but they were very friendly. 4. Airport Shuttle. It was great and such a convenience. We didn't have to take the bus then and spend 2 hours stopping at every 3rd block. Not-so-good: 1. Housekeeping. Was there any? We didn't see them, they didn't stop by. Had to go to the front desk for towels and shampoo. 2. Room configuration. One huge room--tons of space but NO area to hang anything, no dresser, no closet-like structure...nothing. Seriously, nothing. We had to live out of our suitcases for the 2 1/2 days we were there. It was very odd. 3. Rooms had no soundproofing. There was a large gap under our door & we could hear everything in the hallway & upstairs. Tough to sleep like that. 4. TV. Was on a swivel, but b/c my friend & I had beds across the room, we couldn't watch TV at the same time--one or the other could watch it. Overall, decent if you didn't spend a lot of time in the room but would look elsewhere in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Washington Street itself is filled with tatoo parlors and peep shows if that is what you are interested in. Collins Ave is one street up and Ocean Blvd. is two streets up. "Hotel Astor-so so for the price"
Our overall stay @ The Astor was just OK. The staff at the desk during the day & the maintenance/cleaning staff were all very nice & helpful. The evening desk clerk however(female, blonde) was definitely not the friendliest person. That said, our room was as described on Hotels.com, very spacious, large bathroom, plenty of storage for our 2 day stay, […] & was clean. There were many downsides though... no wi-fi in the room, front desk clerk said it would be repaired the next day, 2 days later still not working. The phone in the room was dead as well, we told the staff & nothing was done. The air conditioner was running, quite loudly, the entire stay yet it never went below 76 degrees. Thank goodness it was January so they outside temps werent so bad that we were roasting. The pool & restaurant are both still closed, disappointing, but they did not charge us the "resort fee" upon check-out which was good. I would recommend this property if youre not too concerned with wi-fi, on-site pool, or any other amenities. The location is great & theres ample self-parking around the property. While the rate that we received from Expedia made the hotel worth the stay, the experience did not. "Good location, very friendly reception guys - but that's it"
Stayed two times at the Astor. The Hotel is relatively close to the beach and in the neighbourhood there are lots of cool restaurants, bars and clubs are only few blocks away so it is good if don't want to spend lots of time in the hotel. Reception guys were always very helpful and friendly. Room size and beds were ok, bath rooms were not. In both […] rooms we stayed shower heads were furred up and both were not perfectly cleaned (I don't like to find too many of other people's hairs). While rooms were generally a little loud, we had to turn off AC at night as it was extremely noisy (i've seen lots of hotels, but never had such a loud AC). Overall the Astor is an ok place to stay, especially if you like to walk around SOBE and don't plan to spend too much time at the hotel. The hotel is in a great location and honestly could not beat the price for a South Beach Hotel. "Given the location, a good value."
Good location from which to launch a tour of South Beach--just far enough from noise of the main drag and close enough to walk home after having a few. Hotel could use some TLC, but is otherwise clean and a good value for the money, particularly given the location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Don't stay here if you need internet"
Everything seemed great on the first day until I needed to get some work done and realized that there was no internet in the room. In fact, none of the rooms have a hard-wire connection. Wireless was horrible. The only way I could get a connection was by going down into the lobby, but even then the connection dropped several times. A word to the wise: […] Do NOT stay here if you rely on internet access. Otherwise, the rooms are fairly comfy and the art decco style is nice. Parking is a nightmare anywhere in Miami Beach. The location and price of this hotel is terrific. Plus, the price was reasonable. We were disappointed to find lightbulbs missing in the wall lighting, which was the main lighting for the sitting area. When we checked in at the front desk, the place looked a lot more weathered than I was expecting. The lights were off and there were large floor fans everywhere in lieu of air conditioning.
