This was our first stay at The Richmond. The location is awesome. The front desk staff is friendly and the bellmen were helpful and exceptionally quick. The rooms are very comfortable and very clean. The hotel was in a prime location, valets were very friendly, but the rest of the staff not so friendly :-(. hotel itself was very dated, and very dirty in places. Fantastic location, directly on the beach. Very Nice Pool and Hot Tub area with ample lounge chairs and cozy red towels. GREAT VALUE!! The staff was very helpful checking in/out. Valet parking was convenient as well. Since it's an older hotel, the bathrooms are small, but it was clean. The bedroom was decorated in modern chic and the bed was very comfy […] with a down comforter. I would highly recommend this hotel! The location is perfect- the beach is right out the back door. It is within walking distance of Espanola Way and a ton of great restaurants. We stayed one night at the Richmond. It is a quiet, charming, oceanfront hotel on Collins Ave. A short walk to Lincoln Road Mall and Espagnola Way. "Somewhat Art Deco, lots of personality, Beachfront"
The pictures for this hotel do not do justice to the front. Although this is NOT one of the classically restored Art Deco hotels, it does have some Art Deco features, especially the front. We thought it was very charming. The rooms are nice and have updated furniture, but not necessarily brand new. If you require a place with absolutely all new everything, […] this isn't your place. But this hotel did have a lot of personality and charm. For instance, the bathroom had older tiles, but they were turquoise and coral, so we thought it had a charming retro vibe. It was a nice hotel, while still being an affordable choice. But if you need spas, massages, mints on your pillow, etc, you should go to a Hilton or something. This is just a little vintage kind of place. The hotel has beach front access, which is actually not that common with South Beach Miami Hotels. It doesn't have its own reserved beach chairs and umbrellas, but you can rent chairs and umbrellas out on the beach from several different vendors. The hotel is located between 17th and 18th Streets which is about as good as it gets. ***Location, location, location*** There are other hotels south of 13th Street that are closer to the "action" of SouthBeach, but no hotels south of 13th Street are actually on the beach, they're technically on Ocean Drive which you have to cross to go to the beach. This hotel is ACTUALLY on the beach. There is a small restaurant area with basic stuff (chicken fingers, salads, club sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, brunch, etc.), but nothing ethnic or interesting, though we ate there twice out of convenience. Great Location! Short walk to Lincoln road and Ocean Drive...which is where you can find shopping, food, and entertainment. Hotel is oceanfront but you must walk through the pool area, and down the boardwalk to get to the beach.A definite plus to the property is the pool area...it is great! "Party hotel ONLY, not for the early bird"
If you're coming to South Beach to party and want a relatively cheap hotel this is where to stay. If you are here for any other reason DON'T stay here!! My husband and I (ages 31 & 28) stayed here on a long weekend getaway. On our arrival we discovered the sheets were stained and there was dark black hair on the bed (I have blond hair). We went down […] to the pool and hot tub to discover it closed at "sunset." We only had two (2) towels for our showers in the morning. When we requested additional towels it took an hour to get them. The plumbing was terrible. It was either scalding or ice cold, we could not adjust the temperature of the water in the morning. The floor was filthy. If I walked on the floor with bare feet, I had black soles. The internet is not free, it is $10 per day to use. We had trees directly covering the window in our room. There is not a digital alarm clock in the room. We had to turn on the light to see the time or use our cell phones. The only time we were sure of the time was at bar close when all the partiers were coming back, being very loud and obnoxious in the hallways. "OK to stay for few days"
Location is ok, close to south beach. For parking, you can use the one in close to 16th street. Of course, you can temporarily stop in front of the hotel and get your luggages out, and then go park there. Staff is friendly, and do their job. Good location and priced right. I had booked the ocean view for 2 nights. However, the first night they booked me into a lesser room which I hadn't noticed because of the time of day. In the morning, I saw the view of the neighboring hotel's pool from the 3rd floor. So, the compensated me with free breakfasts and put me in correct room for 2nd night. […] The room was COLD. 64 F on the room thermostat. It's a dummy thermostat that I could not change! So, I phoned the desk and they said the temperature was centrally controlled. They sent a guy up who tried to close off the A/C vents to the room. With that and turning on light bulbs, temp went up to 68F after a while - cold but bearable.
