"Poor Maintenance"
Here are what happened to our stay: 1. no elevator, and we happen to carry a lot of luggage 2. we stay in a 2nd floor suite which has a balcony that is shared with another room. However the door to balcony does not lock at all, which means our neighbour can come to our room anytime they want. 3. The clock does not work. 4. Fridge door does not close. 5. The Hotel is in a great location. Not far from shops and restaurants but a bit more quiet. Our room was located towards the back of the hotel and it was very quiet there. The room itself was nice, clean, and comfortable. We enjoyed the balcony. We had an issue with the air conditioning. The first night it did not work at all and the room was very hot. […] They "fixed" it but we really could not control the temperature. If the air was on, it was on full blast and freezing. If it was off it was really hot. No in between. The pool was ok. It was not heated, or at least it didn't feel that way. We had a couple of very breezy days and it was too cold to go in. It also did not get much sunlight. The staff and front desk were very friendly and accommodating. It was nice to have the option to go to beach and have the free chairs and umbrella. I do not recommend the breakfast buffet. "OK, not great."
The hotel is not beachfront, but it's only a short walk. They offer lounge chairs and umbrellas from a beachfront hotel across the street...in fact they CHARGE you $10/day "resort fee" for the privilege of the chairs and WiFI, even if you don't use or need it. Not only that, the WiFi did not work half the time and the other half was painfully slow. Not […] much front desk staff... there is usually a wait, but they are pleasant. Room was stark, totally white walls and ceiling with hardly any decoration. Bathroom had a toilet, a sink, and a shower area - no vanity or counter! There is a mini-fridge, but not much room in it due to all the "for sale" snacks in there. Didn't look for an ice-maker. King bed was comfortable although one side had some sag. Our room faced Collins Avenue and it was very noisy with traffic until 5 AM Friday-Sunday. Turned up the air-conditioning up to drown it out. Breakfast available at the hotel which we did not try but looked tasty - not sure about price. There is a small bar which would be more in demand if the drinks were not $14 each! Bigger-than-South-Beach-normal style drink, but $14 is outrageous for a bar with no entertainment. The pool is clean but unattractive, max depth 5 feet. Outdoor lobby sitting area is pleasant but nothing special. Parking is packed and they have an attendant stacking up guests vehicles when it gets crowded. "Too much construction noise!"
Starting exactly at 7 AM every morning tremendous construction/ demolition noise was right outside. The whole building shook! After getting to bed at 2 AM and not having to get up early, this was a bummer. I called the front desk to see if I could change rooms - he asked why - I told him about the demolition going on next door - he was surprised - "oh […] really? I will come and see.". My gosh - it could be heard throughout the hotel! It turned out building and road construction was going on all around the hotel - three sides! So there was no point in moving, The hotel is very old and obsolete and certainly not worth the money. The only redeeming factor was that it was only 2 blocks from the convention center - walking through the road construction. In addition, the walls are paper thin - can hear everything next door - and at spring break this was noisy, too - with people arriving to their room at all hours of the AM - 3 AM 4 AM.
