I was looking for the lowest-priced hotel room within walking distance of the prime south beach area, with two beds for me and my friend, and we wound up with an oceanfront room at Starlite, right on the Ocean Drive/Lummus Park strip. We could not have gotten a better location. Room was clean and spacious, and had a fridge and microwave. Soundproofing […] on the windows was surprisingly good- we could hardly hear the nightlife outside. Cons: Staff was unfriendly. Elevator stopped working right after we had gotten our luggage up to our rooms, and we had to take the stairs for the rest of the trip. Cable tv reception was poor. Luckily I wasn't going there to hang out at the hotel much. Basically just a place to crash. But the towels were badly stained and some were ripped. Our room wasn't ready when we came to check in and they had us line up our bags along the first floor hallway with absolutely nothing to secure them. After seeing the reviews I was skeptical about going, however when we got there; that all went away. The receptionist and staff all spoke english despite the reviews saying differently. The elevator was on and off for the two nights my group stayed but we was on the second floor so that wasn't much of a problem. The hotel is located directly on Ocean Drive right next door to Wet Willies and across the street from the beach. The hotel room was pretty simple. The only bad thing about the hotel was that the elevator was out of order and the Valet service was horrible I waited over an hour one night. The staff was friendly. I would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel staff was rude and pointed out the elevator did NOT work and NOT sure when it will be fixed. Thankfully, we only had to haul our luggage to the 2nd floor and not the 3rd. When we initially checked in, the lady behind the desk did not want us to touch her brochures b/c she said he only had 1. The only tour she really pushed was the limo ride […] which included 2 hours of unlimited drinks and the door fee into 2 different clubs for $40 for ladies & $50 for men. I inquired about the tours again when I saw a different lady at the front desk. She was nice, so I purchased a package which included parasailing, a banana boat ride and jet skiing for $150 with a $25 deposit. Not a bad fee, but she failed to tell me that I have to go to the actual facility, Aquaworld 30 mins prior to the tour just to give the remainder of my payment. Then, I need to find my own transportation again to the actual location of the tour’s departure. That was another 7 miles away. I was advised to take public transit which would be only 10 mins., but it took 40 min. I was late for my tour, but luckily I was able to ride with a different group. The tours times were @ 10am, 12pm & 2pm. Also, come to find out Starlite is located in the “lower district” area. The beach was ghetto. Deff won't be staying there again. Read more

We stayed here for two nights with my husbands sister. The hotel is right in the heart of the party that is South Beach. The room was clean, the beds were comfy, and it was amazingly quiet considering the party that is going on outside. The hotel staff is friendly and very down to earth. The shower was good and hot and the water pressure was good. Be careful of the cafes. The people are quite rude, and the prices are outrageous. Can't beat the location... Right on ocean drive and across the street from the beach. Walking distance to lots of bars and restaurants. Reasonable valet. Probably one of the best rates on the strip. Beds were comfy and room was clean enough. Hotel could definitely use updating. Woman at front desk was helpful. But, there was no place to leave our bags […] while we were waiting to check in... Overall i was very pleased with my stay - the rooms are smallish, but comparable to the other small hotels on South Beach. Check-in was a little bit of an adventure, as the lady working the front desk informed me of the 2pm check-in (showed up 10 mins to 2). So I end up standing in the so-called lobby for six minutes before she deigns to check me in […] to room 215. Since I'm used to high-end business travel, we were definitely not off to a great start. The room was clean and the beds were surprisingly very comfortable. The bathroom was also a little tight, but not uncomfortably so. The sink and fixtures were new enough, so the only issue here was a very low supply of cool water for showering (my friend pretty much scalded himself the first time). I suppose that might have been unique to that room or that side of the hotel. Also, the A/C, even though it was a wall unit, was able to kick out terrific cold air. It was almost like a meat locker in there! The elevator service was spotty but we were on the second floor and close to the stairs and they were much faster anyway. The absolute very best thing about this hotel is the Ocean Drive location, right across from the beach and in the middle of lots of restaurants. It's a little south of the heart of the club district on Washington so it seemed quiet enough for my tastes but was a short cab ride away from the fun ($4-$5). The only downside is the restaurant hosts/hostesses on Ocean were rather pushy in trying to get us to dine at their respective eateries - I resorted to ducking through an alleyway to avoid the attention when I walked to or from the hotel. The thing that really shocked me was how plentiful and reasonable the parking was. I was able to find a street spot each night half a block away and park. I think I paid 6 bucks one night to park from 2 am till 11 am the next morning!! We stayed for 2 nights, it's an average room, nice new flat screen t.v & cable with all channels along with microwave & mini fridge. Room smelled like bleach when we walked in, which was good--atleast a sign that they had been cleaning, but the bath tub wasn't the cleanest, some hair was left in there. & we noticed when we took showers the water wasnt […] going down. The elevator broke when we stayed there but was fixed the next day. The location is perfect & convenient, 3 minutes from the beach (beach is across the street) & is right by bars & clubs. Perfect location. Walls are paper thin, we could hear EVERYTHING that our neighbors were doing, sounded like they were in our room. The smell of ciggerette smoke drifted into our room. Hotel is a no-frills hotel. Great location on Ocean Drive, clean rooms and close to beach. The best thing about this hotel is the staff.
