If you want Miami, Avalon definitely fits the essence with it's art-deco feel. It's more mature than the other hotels on the Ocean Dr strip. My family and I recently stayed at the Avalon as we were attending the Orange Bowl. The hotel was great! The art deco style charming and the staff wonderful. yes the hotel is old, but by god the location is great. the beach is literally across the street, and you can probable stay in ocean drive for a year without needing anything else. if you have children this hotel is not a good idea. i wasn't terrible with our youngling, but is not design for that.

It was an older hotel but is was very clean. Location was perfect. Ocean front. Minutes from the beach. Walking distance to eating places. On same strip as clubs, restaurants and other hotels. One of the hassles was that there was no parking, but they had valet parking.

After reading many of the reviews on hotels.com, I chose the Avalon because it had the most consistently positive rating of any hotel I read about and the rates were well-priced for a superior double room (two double beds). When my friend and I arrived in the early evening with our two young children, the desk attendant was very friendly and accommodating. […] He engaged the children and offered us extra pillows - also suggested nearby child-friendly restaurants when we asked. Though the hotel is not specifically set up for children, there were quite a few families staying at the Avalon the week we were there due to mid-winter break. The staff seemed to be welcoming to kids and made efforts to provide small things to improve their stay. All staff were friendly to kids and seemed pleased to have them. The room was small as other reviewers mentioned, but tidy (except for the fact that the carpet under the center between-bed console could have used a bit more vacuuming). Housekeeping kept it clean every day even though our kids tracked sand around and left some crumbs. I made sure to request a room away from the front of the hotel so noise from Ocean Drive would be minimized, and for the most part, sleeping at night was quiet and easy (particularly when the A/C came on as it provided white noise) because they gave us a room on 7th Street away from the main drag. I suggest you ask for the same if you are a light sleeper as Ocean Drive can be very noisy. The breakfast was, as promised, included, and it was European style with some fresh fruit, breads, pastries, decent croissants, mini cereal boxes (was impressed they stocked Kashi, a healthy choice), vanilla soy milk, juices, meats/cheeses, hard-boiled eggs and very good coffee (and I'm VERY picky about coffee). While my friend was not impressed with the breakfast, I though it perfectly fine for light morning fare - which I prefer to heavier buffets with gross eggs and bacon in steamer trays. Smooth check-in experience, Edith at the front was welcoming and accommodating. The rooms were very clean with a comfortable bed and nice white linens and towels. Good continental breakfast and an outstanding value overall for the location. We were very happy with our stay.

Hotel is ok but location is far too noisy. We had a room at front and the music from the surrounding restaurants and bars continued until the small hours. All I wanted was a decent night's sleep. I was told that the noise would not be bad on a Sunday night and that we would be given a quiet room.

It started with having to struggle up the steps with my heavy suitcase while staff looked on and continued with the indifference to the fact that the WiFi didn't work. Didn't see any staff member smile over the five days we were there. Guests seemed an unwanted intrusion. Great location though. I wouldn't go back.

Flott beliggenhet midt i hjertet av South Beach. Hyggelig og imøtekommende betjening. Ikke veldig store rom, ikke noe luksus, men noe nær original art deco tvers igjennom. Gratis frokost i tidsriktig spisesal eller på terrassen mot Ocean Drive. Anbefales til alle som ikke er opptatt av utvendig og upersonlig luksus.

Små rum, utmärkt läge; ska man bo i South Beach så ska man bo på Ocean Drive. Reste med litet barn, vilket fungerade men South Beach kanske inte är det mest barnvänliga man kan tänka sig (mycket folk, trångt, hög musik).

Miami Beach har förändrats mycket under senare år. Läget är nära strand men kan upplevas störande på nätter, ganska mycket ljud fram till 3 på morgonen. Hotellet hade väldigt små rum men i övrigt ett trevligt boende.
