"Close to everything!!"
I have been to Miami a few times but never stay on Ocean Drive. This hotel is right in the middle of everything. Room was small but its Miami no one stays in the room anywhere. The amenities at The Avalon were passable but nothing more. Staff's focus on friendliness and hospitality felt like an effort to compensate for the overall drab interior. The hotel seems to think their prime location makes it ok to forgo basic upkeep like new carpeting, clean corners, and even enough outlets in the room to charge one's fun (I had to […] either unplug a lamp or the clock radio to charge my phone). A/C unit was loud. Bed was not comfortable. The place needed a real good cleaning (dirt in the corners of the bathroom). There was paint spilled all over the run down hall carpeting. "Condition of hotel not good/room had no partial ocean view"
First thing, elevators were not operating, room was sold to me as a partial ocean view, we had no partial view of the ocean -only the building across the street. The front desk was very helpful, if not for the front desk understanding and helpful attitude the stay would have been very bad. "This is NOT the place to stay"
This was a bad trip, I went to South Beach for business, however I didn't know it was spring break and the hotel was over price and under rated! This hotel doesn't look nothing like the pic's they display, the room was run down, the a/c unit was about to come out the wall, the place smelled like pure narcotic's, although the hotel said no smoking was […] allowed but time you came off the elevator that is all you smelled, I went to report the non sense that was going on but the attendant said nothing he can do and there was no on site manager...Really? The beds were super hard, the toliet you had to shake the handle to get it to flush properly, the towel racks were missing, I asked for a quiet spot while there and was placed in room #307 which was right in front of the elevator literally!! This was a bad experience esp for a first time visit, I really deserve a refund for the mess, oh and I forgot there is no parking and they charged $40 per night for valet, and the attendant didn't assist on where and how to park...really? where they do all of this at??
