I felt like I got a heck of a deal from this reservation!! This Howard Johnson was a really nice one, with great amenities. Not to mention all of the cool cars and amazing pool/deck area with the beach steps away. "Nothing special, but good for the price"
We've stayed at this hotel several times, even before it was a Howard Johnson. It's not fancy, and the property is getting old, but they are trying to maintain things, with new paint here and there, and you can tell they are indeed making efforts. The location is great, right on the beach, right on the bus route, and the hotel shuttle is nice too, even […] though they cut back the schedule this year. The daily resort fee includes chairs for the beach, and towels for the beach and/or pool area. They are a little too quick to close up shop for the chairs if the weather turns, but otherwise it's nice to have. The hot tub was great, and I used it every night. English is definitely a second language here, so be prepared for that. Everyone understands it, but they don't all speak it very well. Front desk staff was wonderful, even when we had special requests on our room. Every year, we talk about finding another spot for the next year, yet we keep coming back anyway! for the money you get a great view of the ocean very pleased. I have been several times will continue to go back. Very recomendable if you want a budget hotel, is far from the center but if you rent a Car only takes 10 minutes. Is very clean, the breakfast is ok and the pool is perfect. "All in one- hotel,beach, restaurant"
We booked this hotel after we got off our cruise at Port of Miami. It was actually pretty far away.. but they graciously let us check in about 4 hours early. We were grateful..had luggage and no car!! Room was spacious and clean. Location was not optimal for going anywhere since we didn't have a car, It's pretty much just surrounded by other hotels. […] But the pictures aren't lying, it's right on the beach!! It wasn't a very nice day, but we did sit out there and listen to the waves, which was nice. The hot tub and pool weren't very clean, which may have been from the rain earlier. We ate at the hotel restaurant twice. A little pricey, but decent food. "great bargain for Maimi on the ocean"
Very pleasantly surprised how well maintained hotel was. It is an old hotel, slightly musty odor, but very well maintained. It is on the ocean and has a lovely pool area with lounge chairs to relax on. Staff was very accommdating until my room was ready . Room was clean and very large. It was for a precruise night, which usually does not turn out well, […] since I shop for a cheap hotel. This, however, was a big plus since we actually enjoyed our day at the pool and beach. We even had dinner at the restaurant, sitting outside enjoying the view. The lobby is a 50's motive with old cars made into dining tables. FUN!!! Although we had a rented car we never left the hotel until checkout time. We were content to hang out at the hotel until it was time to drive to the ship. Yes, I would come back here again. "Our 1st choice when staying in Miami Beach"
This was the second time we stayed at the Dezerland. The first time we stayed, we were less than impressed, but the familiarity drew us back. This visit, we were offered an upgrade in our room at no charge, upon our request, at check-in. The air conditioner broke down in our room after the 2nd night, and we were ultimately put into a room even better. […] The bed mattresses are not all that comfortable in this hotel, but they will do - afterall - who wants to stay in bed while you are in Miami Beach? The only other negatives we encountered were that the access to the beach is not easy, since they frown upon your walking through the restaurant and pool area. They ask you to walk alongside the outside of the hotel, where there is water dripping from the overhead air-conditioners, and there is no paved pathway - you must walk on uneven ground with protruding rocks and uncomfortable step-downs. Also, there are steps leading to the hotel front door from the pull up driveway, and if you have a lot of luggage, it will be a workout getting it into the hotel. The pool is kept extremely clean, and there are plenty of beach chairs available to hotel guests. The hotel is very beautiful and everybody was nice. The was just two problems: The room was not set yet by the time we arrived there, we need to wait for about 30 minutes. "Anniversary trip"
This was our 5th time at this hotel, we keep coming back. For the price and right on the beach it can't hardly be beat. Hot tub was just warm, and shuttle was not running a couple of days.
