I live in Miami, but like to rent rooms on the beach when I'm in need of a 'staycation.' The Freehand is my new favorite. It has a great vibe. It's near the beach. The hostel was surprisingly very nice and even luxury with very nice pool and bar. At night turns to be great party there. Everything is enough clean. I had stayed in another hostel, further south, in miami beach, and heard about freehand from a guest there and decided to check it out my last day and a half there. first off, the staff were quite rude and disrespectful toward me as I was checking in, and much of the time I stayed. I stayed in an eight bed mixed dorm room with two full bathrooms, both […] poorly cleaned, and one having a very stopped up shower. the area of the beach is nice, but there isn't much else close by. you have to go far for groceries, laundry, nightlife, etc.. and to make matters worse the staff aren't very helpful when you need help finding something. stay somewhere else. Excellent place to stay for a weekend trip. Relaxed, fun atmosphere. Convenient location, near bus stops and close to South beach but not all up in the crazy mix, quiet neighborhood. Just what I expected. A very eclectic group of people stay at Hostels, and I was not disappointed. I could have stayed in another hotel and had a room all to myself, but I would not have met people form all over the world. This is one hotel stay I will remember.

This place was awesome. Very friendly staff, about a 15 minute walk down the beach to Southbeach and the best bar I found around is the one right downstaris from your room. The place is a wonderful art deco style that is fun. The only problem I have is that the bathroom was so small. They do have lockers, but you had to either buy a lock or bring your lock. Bring flip flops for the bathroom also.

The place is brand new and for USD 13/night you are in south beach 2 blocks from the beach, 10 minutes from the W hotel/Setai etc. Fast wifi, a really well executed pool/lounge area with a very bar, fast wifi, free breakfast, bike rentals, free beach towels. The Freehand is a relatively new hostel with a gorgeous outdoor pool, a courtyard restaurant and bar, and very reasonable rates for 4-bunk and 8-bunk rooms. I was there the week before Christmas and only had one other person in my room the entire time. My first in a setting where i had to share the room with other people. I had to upgrade from an 8-dorm to a quad for more privacy and only had 3 other guys in the room. On last day a girl moved in and i found out the room was a mixed. Even tho the difference i found price on Expedia was only $3 i ended up paying $28 for the upgrade but didn't mind. […] The other guys were nice and we immediately be are friends, went out to clubs and made plans for the remainder of our stay. Nice area at the pool, many visitors were coming as the place seems to be one of the coolest in Miami. I also appreciate the complimentary breakfast and the lockers in the rooms even tho the lock was an extra $5. Overall i liked the place and will stay there again. Very accessible to many buses and the beach is only a few yards away from the hotel. Loved the experience, first time in a Hostel, rooms were cleaned, bedding was new, sheets were white and crisp, bathroom was clean and had toiletries provided by Hostel. Don't forget your washcloths as I only found that I was provided a bath towel. Lockers provided in the room plenty of space to hold valuables but not a suitcase, don't forget your lock. […] Each room as a card key and is only provided to those that are staying in the room. Breakfast was a little scare, so if your hungry get downstairs early as breakfast is 8-10 and it was gone when I arrived. The Hostel is very loud at night, it is very difficult to sleep with the windows open you hear the people outside, inside the Hostel sounds like a party going on all the time, so bring earplugs or join the party. In the rear of the property is a private pool, ping pong tables, seating area surrounded by trees and tropical plantings as well as a bar. Very comfortable and perfect for lounging. The inside lobby area provides a Bohemia themed room with candles burning and pillows everywhere with furnishings from cost plus, pier one import look. When I stayed there was a mix up with the bed assignment and when I came back after a night of partying someone was sleeping in my bed. There wasn't another clean bed in the room so I was told I had to wait for a maid to come and clean the other bed. Not cool at 3 am. So I paid to upgrade to single room which was actually refunded to me later the next day. Of this whole situation hadn't happened I would have given the hotel a higher rating. The only bad thing was the breakfast. Breakfast is served til 10am but when I came down fpr brakfast at 9:40am, there was no breakfast served anymore. (at least I got refunded for that one day for breakfast) but the other day it was exactly the same thing. They just had coffee and milk left.

If you only want to go to the beach is an excelent option, pretty noisy at night because of music in bar and too many young people around but the deco is awesome and unique. Modern tech (tv, wifi, ipod radio) on rooms. The breakfast is so good, from famous Atelier Monnier located in South Miami. Staff are very attentive and courteous.

Very clean hostel with great, friendly staff who organize events from bbqs to yoga on the beach everyday. Very safe , lockers are big enough to take entire hiking rucksacks, and right on the beach ! Bars / restaurants and shops are about 10blocks away so either a short taxi ride or an easy walk.

Freehandin tunnelma teki lähtemättömän vaikutuksen! Seikkailijaluonteelle, yksin tai kaveriporukassa matkustaville ja nuorille aikuisille tämä on paras vaihtoehto. Ystävällinen henkilökunta, remontoidut huoneet, ja kaunis allas/piha-alue, ihana hippitunnelma. Matkustin yksin ja sain matkani aikana monta uutta ystävää huonekavereistani. Joka viikonloppuna […] järjestettyä ohjelmaa kuten joogaa ja live-esiintyjiä. Myös paikalliset saapuvat illanviettoon freehandin takapihalle. Henkilökunta neuvoo parhaat nähtävyydet ja busseilla kulkemisen. Pyöriä vuokralla! Aamupala oli aika pieni, isommalle nälälle suosittelen seuraavalta kadulta löytyvää subwayta (myös pieni marketti vieressä). Ranta 200m päässä. Suosittelen mukaan silmälappuja ja pyytämään tiskiltä korvatulpat, sillä käytävältä ja tieltä äänet kuuluvat huoneisiin. Sängyt ovat kuitenkin hyvät, mutta paksumpaa peittoa kannattaa pyytää tiskiltä, huoneissa saattaa olla kylmä. Kokonaisuutena valitsisin tämän hostellin kaikkien hotellien ohi!
