"nice view but you get what you pay for"

What can I say... you get what you pay for. At the end of the day, this place was perfect for walking to the convention center and lots of other places, including the beach! "I read reviews and knew it was terrible..."
Poor quality hotel that is begging for a remodel. The only nice thing, were the employees, and unfortunately they need a job. The smell was bad, so I took a scented candle, the tub was nasty, so I took a pair of shoes to wear.....yes, I read the reviews prior to staying, but I needed the location. Lamp switches were broken, batteries were missing out […] of the remote, safe (a must pay for) didn't work, but maintenance came right up and repaired. Mildew all over walls around a/c unit. "Smelly"
the front desk attendant, Linda was very nice, but other than that the hotel leaves much to be desired! the room had a very bad smell, there were massive stains on the carpet, cigarette burns on both comforters, and the bathroom was just plain filthy. we had to wear our flip flops in the tub when we showered, it was that bad. the location was great […] however right next to the W hotel so we could escape and have drinks there. it was right on the strip close to the beach, and New Years eve so we weren't able to find anything else last minute. thank goodness it was only for two nights!! My wife & I would have just left this place & walked Collins until we found a decent hotel if we had to stay here our entire vacation. Luckily we had a cruise scheduled & only needed a two night layover. This property was clearly purchased on the cheap & put back together even cheapper. Shame really, the lobby/lounge area are very appealing, but walk […] outside to the pool area & you see the begining of where the money stopped. Grounds could be nice if just maintained. The room however was a disaster. Base trim peeling from the wall, mold in shower, D grade patch work, a safe you HAD to pay for that could barely fit my wifes smallest purse, a bed with broken down sides. The first laugh was opening the door to see the dresser/TV stand missing 2 of its 4 drawers. I immediately reported this to avoid charges for damage. The front desk was plenty nice & offered to send maintenance to repair. I declined as I didnt plan to unpack my bags in this dirty place anyway. The final wonder was not only was it overly apparent that the air conditioner had caught fire at one time, but it was not adjustable. I ended up needing maintenance to come with a remote to set to MAX cool. Didnt seem to help, couldnt keep the remote, & I could not be certain the man understood me as he didnt speak ANY english. So if you just need a place to hang your hat for the night thats not the cleanest but at least didnt seem to have bugs or anything, then this place is probably one of the cheapest you'll find. "The crazy lady in the cleaning closet!"
We continue to stay here because of the price and location. But it is not a nice place. The manager is very rude and double charged my room to my debit card. There is a small cleaning closet right beside room 216 (our same room the last 2 trips) and there is a very weird elderly lady that does nothing but sits in the closet and sleeps all day! I seriously […] thought she was a bum the first time I saw her in there! My 1 year old son accidently locked her in there one day! He didn't know any better and saw her in there and it scared him because of how weird she is so he slammed the door shut. She freaked out and was pounding on the door, then when the front desk sent somebody up to get her out she wouldn't leave the closet! That was extremely weird and kind of an unwelcome feeling knowing that some crazy lady was sitting outside your door all day everyday! The guy that worked right inside at the tourist information booth is very friendly and approachable!! Just wish the rest of the crew would take note. "Good Value In South Miami Beach"
The Seagull was our first stop (3 nights) on a 9 day Florida vacation. The reviews were all over the map so we weren't sure what we were getting into. Surprise surprise - it is OK. Our room with balcony looked over palms to the ocean - perfect spot to drink morning coffee. There is a very nice pool area which you will not know about unless you ask. […] There is outside city parking across the street - not cheap but convenient. The clients were all over the map but not bad until one of them decided to sing The Lion Sleeps Tonight at 1am just down the hall. The immediate impression you get is that the Seagull has seen better days and needs a facelift. Overlook the water damage and chipped paint and you will find this a good value for the location, room size, balcony and convenience to South Beach. "the worst hotel in south beach"
it takes 45 min. to adjust the water to get it to a temperature thats not scalding hot or freezing cold. unless you ask the front desk (when somene actually staffs it) about where to get ice, all 8 floors have machines with only the ice machine on the 7th floor operable. i spent 30 minutes going all over the hotel trying to figure out how to get ice. there […] are also mice- we spotted in the hallway one morning. the balcony door was so worn out the lock was inoperable and the deadbolt had almost an inch of play in it because the hole for the deadbolt in the door jam was worn out and as a a result oversized excessively. i.e. not secure at all. the coffee in the lobby is beyond consumable and we were told by the bartender that it tends to sit there for days at a time. "Not worth it"
although this hotel is close to the beach, the hotel itself is in terrible condition and in desperate need of refinishing. Mold in sthe shower, diry and smells like paint.The staff was not accomadating or polite. There were hidden costs once we arrived including mandatory safe fee. After reading some horrible reviews, I really expected the worst. While Seagull is certainly what I would refer to as a crappy motel, it was definitely better than I thought. For SoBe its a reasonable price and comparatively well maintained. The reception area and pool are nice, and there is security in the lobby. The only real complaints I had were […] that the towels and sheets were clearly washed but not necessarily "clean". Also I was told that I was being charged an additional safe lock fee of around 2.50/night, but got a $25 dollar charge on my card that was not explained. Also there is constantly the sound of slamming doors. Overall, great location, not bad price, definitely doesnt deserve the horror reviews especially compared to the other motels I saw in the area. If you just want a place to sleep at night after a long day of walking getting to know south beach, then it is ok. if you have a car, parkink will be a mess, public parking payment is a real problem. we saw the hotel have a nice parking area in an alley beside it, but it is just for hotel staff and the customer have to fight for a spot on the public […] area and at 34.5 a day ! carpets needs replacement, elevator needs renewal of surfaces, rooms has no ventilation whatsoever, air conditioning units are split type and didnt work at all for us. internet is ok and worked all the time right in our room on the 8th floor. A/C IN OUR ROOM WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF THE WALL, IT BARELY GOT TO 75degreesF. ROOM NEXT DOOR HAD A PORTABLE A/C WITH EXHAUST VENTED OUT THE WINDOW NEXT TO OUR DOOR. MAINTENANCE CAME TWICE TO FEEL THE AIR COMING OUT WITH HIS HAND AND SAID..."NO FREE COOL" (NO FREON, I ASSUMED). ROOM WAS A POOL ROOM, WHICH TO THEM MEANS YOU ARE ON THE GROUND FLOOR ONLY. […] YOU USE THE SIDE EXIT AND A PATH BETWEEN HOTELS WHERE EMPLOYEES PARK. (VERY CREEPY AT NIGHT) HOTEL REFUSED TO MOVE US TO ANOTHER ROOM. THE POOL HAS NO WORKING FILTER. SECURITY RIGS A TEMPORARY FILTER/PUMP, (LIKE IS USED ON VERY SMALL ABOVE GROUND POOLS) AT NIGHT TO WORK IN THE DEEP END IN ONE CORNER. VERY NASTY WATER. HOTEL HAS NO PARKING. LOT NEXT DOOR ONLY ALLOWS 10 HRS, MAX PAID PARKING AND LOT STAYS FULL. I DID PHOTO THE A/C AND THE TEMPORARY FILTER AND WILL TRANSFER AND DOWNLOAD THEM A..S.A.P.
