I needed to be in Pacifica for work last week and was excited to find this hotel at a reasonable price withing 10 mins of my meeting. I understood why it was value priced, once I entered the parking lot. The exterior is extremely run down and in dire need of a paint job. The room, although clean, was pretty much the worst place I've stayed in several […] years. It made me think the furniture and accessories were bought at a thrift shop - mismatched, old, and scarred. The price is low for a reason. The light in the bathroom had a fan that was deafening (and you couldn't shut it off if you wanted the light on) and there was no shampoo provided. The bed had the thinnest blanket and no extras provided, so I was freezing most of the night. There was some crazy woman yelling expletives at her daughter to the point I was afraid something serious might happen. The highlight was the helpfulness of the staff. The location, next to the Cow Palace, was perfect. The Swiss-style older motel is on a steep hillside with flowers planted in flower boxes outside the door. Rooms are small but comfortable and are clean. Breakfast is skimpy and you need to get there early if you want anything but coffee. The quiet was wonderful.

Room upped the basic amenities by adding a fridge and microwave. It was nicely laid out, with the location of things seeming to fit the space available. Cleanliness, which is a HUGE "must be" in place where one will wash and sleep, top notch. No dust or wiped over grime, or oily residue was visible. Sheets were WHITE and crisp. The reception on the television was grainy with "snow" on many channels, making it little more than background noise. I'm sure eith a little attention this could be corrected asap. Secondly, and of a more serious nature, is the surrounding neighborhood. There were homeless individuals and a few vandalized vehicles noticed while travelling up and down Geneva Ave, the main strip here. Now the Inn itself is tucked back into its own cubby so there is nothing threatening at your door. But a block away, as one wanders out for food or entertainment, may bring some excitement. Don't believe the ads. If you want a bay view you have to go out in the driveway to see a sliver of the bay. However, this time we noticed that things were looking more tired, more run down ; so no upkeep or renovations are happening that we could see. Further, the price had doubled in the past year- which made it way too expensive for that hotel. It is in an out-of-the-way place in Daly City ( […] South SF) , in a sketchy neighborhood. Had to stay somewhere near the Cow Palace for a weekend business trip. This hotel was great for a stay for the weekend for business. Second bed was in a separate room which was nice however that room had no TV. Overall though the room was clean and bed was comfortable. It's a nice and comfortable little hotel.

I stayed here for 4 nights in late September. I'd not stay again for several reasons, and I'll get to that later. First let me tell you about the positives. The hotel manager and his family are top notch. The maintenance people are top notch too. The neighborhood is safe and clean. The parking is right next to your room, and the location is has easy […] access to downtown SF. My first night I could not sleep. The rooms have no sound insulation, being very old as they are. You can hear conversations in the next room, and in my case, personal relations, which, yes, are funny, but not at 4AM. I ask to be moved to a different room and the manager did so. However, the air-conditioner wasn't working. So, the maintenance guys swapped out one that was, and that took all of 20 minutes. So this is the high point for the hotel--the employees, of which all deserve raises. The bad is that the rooms are very small, smaller than a motel six, old looking, despite new paint and renovation, and have old furniture. It's just a little far from SF for me also. The deal breaker, however, is the price. Also, it's no where near what an "Inn" is being more like a cheap motel. I've stayed in places like this outside of SF for 50 bucks a night. I stayed in Emeryville last time, in the Hilton, which is about 10 minutes from DT SF, and it was less than the Alpine, including parking. The room was twice the size and much nicer. It turns out that there is no shuttle from the airport and the cab ride, with tip, to/from the airport was about $30 each way. The front desk staff (just one person) was nice, but the Internet was not working. After the employee was unable to help me, I had to call technical support. The first time, technical support ended up calling the front desk to have them reset some stuff. The internet worked fine, but just for an hour. And then the Internet began to die off. I had to […] call technical support yet again to ask them to fix the problem. I really needed to use the Internet because I had to prepare for my meeting the next day. It took a long time for the Internet to come back up again. The room was really clean, and the bathroom facilities were modern. However, around 1 AM, a lot of policemen (5 or 6 with police cars) drove into the driveway of the inn and started talking really loudly. This went on for maybe 20-25 minutes. Also, there is a junkyard right next to the inn and someone started hammering on something really early in the morning (4 AM). I didn't know that it would be that hard to get a good night's sleep here since the inn seemed like a quiet place, but I guess the surrounding area isn't very safe. The rate was reasonable, and as long as you stay inside your room for the most part and you are a really deep sleeper, you will be fine. I did like the room and how well-maintained it was though. After reading many reviews on places in this price range in the SOMO and Civic Ctr areas, I decided that the expensive parking and hookers weren't what I was looking for when I finished work. I decided on the Alpine Inn and I spent 3 nights here and can confirm most of the attributes given in reviews. Nice design touches in the rooms that elevates it […] slightly above chain motels. Friendly staff too. Due to its location, it feels safe and on it's own quiet "street". If you go to the local supermkt, you can stock the fridge and use the Mwave. Queen bed is very comfy, bring your own pillow and ear plugs if poss. People in adjacent room can be heard if they're loud. Indeed, 15mins access to SFO & DwTn by car. Gd value for the money. Non-smoking room, but like so many low-cost NS motels, there's a slight smell of smoke in the room. Size was okay for me, but more than a couple would be tight. (only one bed btw) For the money, you get a safe place to stay that doesn't cost a fortune. Parking is directly in front of your room so you can watch your car. Coffee pot, iron, mwave all pluses. Old-style window unit AC/htr works quickly. CRT TV limited to about ten channels, but hopefully one is out enjoying the city and not watching the tube. Read more
