Pros: We found it to be clean and pleasant. Nice pool area and sandy area on the channel. 40 minute nice walk, 15 minute nice bike ride to Duvall. "Older resort with a fresh coat of paint"
The room smelled terrible when I arrived. The breeze from the ocean allows you to keep the balcony doors open and the smell disappeared. There is major construction in front of the hotel for 2 more years, but it didn't hinder me. Clothing is option by the pool, hence the adults only rule. We chose this hotel because we were looking for something that would take us away from the party atmosphere of downtown Key West, for the night. They don't lie when they say its on the water, but it is deceiving. The man made beach in the shade leading up to the breakwall is basically useless. Unless you are allergic to the sun. The location is good if you don't mind a five minute ride to Duvall Street. "Inexpensive Hotel for Singles/Younger Fit Crowd."
Hotel was very reasonably priced, so if you're not into all the bells and whistles it's an ok stay. There is some exercise equipment available and pool is small but clean. Hotel is about a $15 cab ride one way to Duvall Street and that is where the majority of the action is, so plan on approx $30 extra expense per day for transportation costs. "Be careful of what you are expecting"
We arrived early to the hotel and they found a room for us, very nice. Got to the room and it hadn't been cleaned yet. Since we were just dropping off bags and heading to town for lunch any ways, we just told them to have it clean for when we got back. Can live with that. They advertise a poolside tiki bar. they closed it down. Bummer. The only wi-fi […] available is in the office, as far as way from our room as possible. So we never used it. They pool and grounds are not bad, they keep them kept up pretty well. The whole place is a little dated and could use a remodel, but it isn't in bad shape. One thing they do not advertise, that I found, is that the pool is clothing optional. We did have a few ladies take advantage of this to our dismay. We had a barking dog in the room next to us. One day we got back around 4:30, going to shower and get ready for the night and our room hadn't been cleaned yet. So we ahd to track down the housekeeper to get some towels. The rooms were very clean and very comfortable to be in when we weren't outside by the pool or by the water. "high potential but poor execution"
The place is really nice but it is not being taken care of. The Tiki bar was closed which also meant that towels at the great pool did not exist. Regular bug spraying would have made sitting long the shore with its beautiful view tolerable. The breakfast room needed a whitewash. And an offering of fruit and/or yogurt was needed. We had to ask for more pillows (no extras in room) and for extra towels... which continued to dwindle was the week wore on. The construction on the road in front of the place made it difficult to get it. But in spite of all of these fixable items, the place is in a great spot with a wonderful waterfront view with a tropical village feel. Hotel picture looks great from the pool view. Beware the code words (for all hotels in Key West): "Waterfront", "Sunning Beach". There are NO beach front hotels in Key West and there are NO beaches in Key West. The nearest acceptable nice beach is 32 miles north at Bahai-Honda. As for the hotel, the lousy "Continental" Breakfast was carb-heavy, no other […] option. The "Breakfast/Break/Internet" room door was not operational the entire week I was there. Internet was only available sitting outside in the heat on the deck, or walking up to the lobby. It also went down the last day. The pool was inexplicably HEATED (92+) so it was not refreshing. Only stay here if you want a cheap home base and like to do things elsewhere during the day. Key West is geared toward water activities like boating, sailing, etc. Not for beach people. Staff was great especially Violet, Jonathan and James... except for some that did not speak english but they smile at u. hotel was great because it is within a mile away from everything: Beach was close by, convenient stores and fast food places, cinema, gasoline station, airport...close by everything.
