    The Redmont Hotel is close to McWane Science Center, Birmingham Museum of Art, and Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. Also nearby are Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Sloss Furnaces.

    It was ok, the room I had was dirty from that last guest. They did upgrade me which was very hospitable of them. It was in a very prime location, my stay was pleasant. I hated paying for parking no matter what hotel it is.

The Redmont is old - built in the 20's - and has charm, but it is a bit seedy and needs a facelift. There is no restaurant on the premises and options in the immediate vicinity are negligible.     The Redmont was a beautiful, old hotel. It was clean and convenient and met my needs. The funiture in the room was a little warn... but other than that, the hotel was fine. It was easy to find, close to where I needed to be, and the staff was courteous. If I have to go back to Birmingham... I would stay at the Redmont.

    Stayed two nights here on business. Right in the middle of downtown and convienent to the interstate. The hotel is old/historic so not a lot of frills but nice. The access to the YMCA around the corner is great for those who want to maintain their gym time and it just a block away. I will stay here again.

    The staff is very nice and took care of whatever was needed. The room was very comfortable. There is a bit of a musty odor in parts of the hotel. It is located within walking distance to three museums, and though there are few restaurants nearby on the weekend, there are a couple of good ones.

    This is a great older hotel that has wonderful rooms and very comfortable beds. My room was clean and well appointed. Shower worked well and the staff was very helpful. For the price this hotel is a good deal. Just a few blocks from the Art Museum and the Convention Center.

    Overall, I thought that the hotel was descent. My only concern was that there were no working ice machines in the building or working vending machines to get a cold drink. The room was spacious, well kept, clean bathroom. The maid service was fantastic. I would stay there again.

    Hotel was "dated". Reminded me a bit of a run down hotel from he Shining. Old carpet, old linens/towels, TV, drapes, etc. In fact the bath towel was partially shredded. Carpet was dirty/spotted from previous debris. The cradle for blow dryer was hanging on the wall; but the blow dryer was missing and appears to have been for quite some time.

    Although the hotel is historic, it was not well kept. The floor in the hotel room was extremely dirty. There was no soap in the bathroom. There was mildew on the ceiling in the bathroom. The continental breakfast consisted of pre-wrapped muffins and juice. It should not be rated any higher than 2 stars.

    I was greeted warmly at check in. However, the rest of the time I had a question I was not treated as nice. We were invited to eat on the roof for orderbs, soup, salad, and cocktails and upon arriving was encouraged to try the diner 3 blocks down the road. Those working the food area was not as hospitable as the front desk was. The breakfast was 7.00 […] and was hot and was all it was advertised to be. The room was clean, but the refrigerator did not work. and there were tiles coming off the wall, in the bathroom which could have been a hazard. I was disapointed in the TV at the Hotel very grainy, and a old television. The Hotel lobby was nice, and lead me to believe the rooms would be the same. However clean, the furniture and fixtures was not the same quality. It was not much different than staying in a chain Hotel.     We were in Birmingham for an event at the Jefferson convention center downtown. The Redmont is the perfect place to stay if you want to park your car once you arrive in front of the hotel and not access it again until you depart. That is for Saturday and Sunday.     This hotel was not acceptable. The neighborhood, staff and hotel condition was so bad I left and found other accommodations. Not only was I concerned about the condition of the hotel I felt physical danger as well. Please remove this from your list of recommended accommodations.

    The Redmont was conveniently located to Sloss, it was clean, a few nice restaurants close enough to walk to, and the beds were comfortable. The only issue I had was with the door not latching on my first room. The first person I told this to passed it on to the maintenance guy, but he was also running a shuttle for the hotel. By the time he got back […] from his shuttle run I was ready to go to bed. I called the front desk and there was a different person working at this point. She didn't take the time to listen to what I was saying and then hung up on me. I went down to the desk and asked her why and she said she had too many things going on. (no excuse for being rude). After telling her my situation she handled it well. If I hadn't had a problem with the lock, I wouldn't have had any issues. I'll stay there again next time I'm in town. Read more

    When we got to our room we noticed the many stains on the carpet. We then saw a cockroach on the floor. We immediately left the room and told them that we could not stay there and left the hotel.

    I stayed here on business. The location was perfect for my needs. The staff were great. My only complaint was a lack of soundproofing. Hallway traffic was infrequent, but easily heard from inside my room. In fact, the noise woke me up a few times during each night of my stay. Could this be fixed by installing thicker doors?     I was really skeptical about staying there, and there wasn't much out there about the place. I'm college aged, and me and my friends had three rooms total. All rooms were different, some larger then others. Overall it wasn't a bad stay. Because we were crammed 4 in a room, there weren't enough towels, and we practically had to pull teeth to get some […] extra ones. The place was quite, the roof top bar was cool, and it is a hop skip and jump away from the BJCC. Oh, and the free breakfast was more of a teaser than a meal. Overall, it wasn't horrible. It's an old hotel, and the hallway looks like something out of a horror movie, but the rooms aren't bad. You can tell they've done some updating and remodeling (not just up to par with a newer build hotel). Overall, if I didn't have any other choice, I wouldn't mind staying there again. And I'm sure that the upper floors had better quality rooms....but next time, The Redmont definitely won't be my first choice. Read more

    The historic Redmont is convenient to any researcher working at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and/or Birmingham Public Library Department of Archives and Manuscripts. The staff was warm and helpful, although the desk clerk I spoke with was unfamiliar with the location of BPL's Department of Archives and Manuscripts even though it is located […] only one block away. The biggest drawback to staying anywhere in downtown Birmingham is that the city literally shuts down at 3:00 in the afternoon. This means that hotel guests are reliant on hotel restaurants unless they have transportation to the university or suburbs.     Positives-The location is wonderful, and the view from the room was beautiful. The room itself was pretty basic, but it was clean and all that I really needed. Negatives-The hotel would not provide transportation from the airport because their driver did not come to work. They refused to pay for my cab fare or to suggest any other arrangements. After […] factoring in the cost of cab fare to and from the airport, I really would have been better off with a more expensive hotel. The staff on duty when I checked in at night were extremely rude and unhelpful, although those who were on duty when I checked out in the morning were very pleasant. Finally, the room was REALLY cold. The temperatures were unusually cold in Birmingham when I visited, so I imagine that the hotel is normally fine and is just not well insulated or equipped to deal with very cold temperatures, but it did make my stay very uncomfortable.
