Used as a backdrop for countless films and TV shows, downtown Los Angeles is one of the world’s most recognized skylines. This area’s landmarks include the LA Convention Center, the Staples Center, and Dodger Stadium. Post-modern architecture takes center stage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Nearby, Chinatown and Little Tokyo lie east of City Hall.

"You get what you pay for"
For $60, it was a decent hotel. Neighborhood looks sketchy but I felt safe walking around the daytime. Rooms are tiny. Carpet is pretty gross but the sheets on the bed were clean. Perfect for just the hubby and me but would never stay here with the little ones.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The mattress was horrible."
Would not recommend. Room too small. Mattress was horrible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap!"
I was happy to see that the Mayfair Hotel was not in a scary part of town. The staff were prompt and helpful. You will be paying for a place to crash, not a luxurious retreat. The nice part is they do have a gym if you're trying to get in some exercise while on the road.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"a place to stay for a night or two"
Historic is correct when describing this hotel. The rooms are small, the bathrooms are small, and the beds and carpet feel as if they have been around for many, many years. You are conveniently placed in downtown LA; however, there are lots of "people" roaming around outside of the hotel at all hours. If I stay in LA again, I will choose a different […] hotel. "needs work"
The Mayfair is conveniently located near the LA Convention Center and the Staples Center Arena. It's just a few minutes' walk. The hotel has not apparently been recently refurbished. The lobby is lofty but nondescript. A PA features music from a cheesy FM radio station. My room was spartan. The only desk was completely dominated by the large CRT […] television, so there was no place to work. The restaurant is only open for breakfast. Given it's central location, I'd say this hotel deserves a renovation, but so far this has not happened. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not to bad for the money"
Historic is in the name which lets you know it is an older hotel. The carpet could use a good cleaning, there is a bit of a musty smell as well as some stains. Shower was small and cramped. The air conditioner was not working but it was January so I just opened the window. The staff was great, the neighborhood is not the greatest but not that bad either. […] It is a short 15 minute walk to downtown which makes up for a lot. Considering price vs other hotels I will most likely be staying here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

an inexpesive, near downtown hotel, that is convenient. good for short stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is charming, in its own way! The lobby is gorgeous, and worth a visit....marble, columns, a white piano....very elegant. The rooms are clean but very small. This is a fine place for a quick stay, but not a destination in itself. The staff was very helpful, polite and efficient. The room was clean, but tired. "Alright...."
The location isn't very convenient to get to attractions or anywhere really. The walls are VERY thin, you can hear your neighbors talking. "Fit its purpose, but wouldn't highly recommend"
The lobby of the hotel is very cute, and inviting! The rooms on the other hand are very disappointing. The bathrooms are extremely small, and hard to move around in. The beds hardly have a comforter, so I can only imagine how cold it must get during colder nights. Stains were everywhere! The hotel just needs one major update, and it will be wonderf […] ul! "good location for the money payed"
nothing special, but don`t expect more for that money. If you want to spare some money, great location, near downtown L.A. if you are on business trip. You can not find cheaper rooms at this location. Not for family.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Old World Charm"
The loby and the restaurant are very very nice. Old World Charm! The rooms are a bit old and the air conditioner did not keep the room cool even in December on the 14th floor. The shower water did not keep constant temperature and needed many adjustments during the shower. The price was good and I would come back again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good price, convenient location"
I was biased by reviews so went with negative expectations. Six of us stayed at the hotel for 1 night. Lobby was nice and clean, there were a few people sitting around, front desk was helpful and nice. Hallway carpet looked filthy, rooms are not new but very clean, tv had no control, I could hear the people in the next room laughing as if they were […] in my room, bathroom was small but had hot water, elevator was noisy and scary. I stayed there 5 nights, they cleaned the room every day (but the cleaning woman would knock on your door everymorning at 8am...or maybe she was always starting from my room?!?!) the room is basic but beds are really comfortable. position is really good since it's near the financial district on 7th street...not really the safest area by night though! "Comfortable room, lackluster internet"
I reserved a room with a queen or king bed, was served a room with two full beds. They moved us to another room but that was horribly small with none of the amenities we needed (desk & fridge) so we moved back to the original room and pushed the beds together. Room was very comfortable and clean. The internet is non-existent; it kept kicking us off […] the wifi every 3 minutes and was so slow that we decided to work at an internet cafe. "Good for a night"
Overall, it was great for the price and location. It's about a 30 minute walk to the Staple Center and the neighborhood isn't bad. The beds were a bit stiff for my girlfriend and I. Parking cost an additional $12 per night, but across the street there's a parking lot that charges $5 for the entire day.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Disappointed"
I've always wanted to stay at the Mayfair hotel and it was just a disappointment in the room and service. We were put in a room that had no hot water and then no one came to fix it so instead we were given a new room. Prior to going up to the room, I had ask to have our parking comp due to the inconvience of us having to move. I was promised it would […] be dealt with. It was a pleasant surprise when we got upgrade however the next day when I was checking out my parking was not dealt with. I stayed here for business and quite frankly would have preferred the comp parking instead of the upgrade. The front desk agent proceeds to argue with me over $12. It was just ridiculous and a waste of time. I don't think I will ever come back because of the rudeness. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good bang for your buck"
The hotel has a wonderful view to down town LA. It has a warm charm from the beautiful architecture. Contrary to the reviews read online my room 1522 was very spacious 2 king size beds and an additional desk .The bathroom was now too roomy . It would help if the door swung outwards. The staff was very friendly the bed linings clean as well as the bath. […] The coffee machine in the room was a big plus. One big observation. Either the hotel needs maintenance budget expansion or THE MAINTENANCE MANAGER NEEDS TO BE FIRED! . HOW ON EARTH DOES HE ALLOW SUCH A GORGEOUS ENTRY LOBBY HAVE WATER STAINS ON THE CEILING? . The carpets needs replacement or a good professional steam cleaning something I agree with other comments posted on the internet. Two seats of the front lobby leather sofa need to be reupholstered ( flacky pealing appearance) and the two cute tables infront of them need to be painted in black as they could use some TLC. How much does this cost to improve ? $2000 ceiling paint , $50 table paint , $500 upholstery fees. With 2550 the front lobby would look like a million bucks ! . would I go back ? YOU BET. "Very awkward tub and difficulty with shower/water"
It was OK for what I need and the price; had problems getting the water temperature I wanted for my morning shower and the tub was very, very awkward . . . limited to a seated bath yet no water faucet in the tub area(???) "Ok for the price..."
I read the reviews on expedia and they were pretty spot on. This is a beautiful old hotel from the outside, but it's in a pretty slummy neighborhood. That said, I never felt unsafe - and I was able to walk to several places even at night. Parking was $12 a day and the garage is attached with in and out privileges - this is actually a pretty good deal […] parking wise - especially given how cheap my rate was. The staff was very friendly and the concierge had good tips. I walked to Dodger stadium - just under 3 miles because was pretty day and it's convenient to getting in and out of down town. The negatives are the beds - they are pretty hard..and the rooms - while clean are pretty run down. Bottom line, don't take your girl there to impress her, but if you need a cheap place to stay on business, it's more than adequate (free wi-fi worked fine). I would not recommend families with children though because it's just not that scenic of an area. The water pressure in shower was good, and the air conditioner worked well enough. "Historic.... Ancient!"
Its a wonderful staff and great looking lobby, if you survive the elevator which sounds like the cables are breaking you get to whatever floor you are on... by the way if you are higher then floor 11, when you go down the elevator goes from floor 11 to 8 in a couple seconds. The rooms are worn down and if you try to walk somewhere and are not back by […] night you are doomed! otherwise I have stayed in worse... PS this is 18miles from the airport not 1.8! "Cheap and Functional"
A nice place to stay if you want to be close to everything, but not have to destroy your bank account at the Ritz. Good things: it was at least clean, a nice view of the city if you're lucky, and the beds are comfortable and warm. Bad things: the toilet seat was not connected (weird) and the elevators shake a rattle their way to trouble. Also, don't […] be fooled: the rooms seem low cost, but it seems everything is extra, such as parking. $12 per day. Breakfast is $8 (it's not bad, but the dining room is kept stiflingly hot and uncomfortable). It is an old building and the rooms are decorated simply with ugly walls, but I'm not there to bask in the hotel room. Yes, the rooms are also small with an almost impossibly small bathroom, but again, I'm not there to hang out in my hotel room. It would seem that the neighborhood is unsafe because it's in the middle of the city, but it's really not. Everyone walking around at night minded their own business and didn't try to bother me or anyone else. I'm more nervous of the characters who hang out at MacArthur Park. Overall, I would recommend it to someone who wanted a cheap place to stay and was close to everything--but isn't planning on spending much time in their hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Met our needs and expectations"
It's not the best hotel in the world, nor is it in the best location. But for the price and proximity to the staples center, it was worth it. All we needed was a place to stay and walking distance to downtown Los Angeles. We were not looking for a fancy hotel. It met our requirements. And for that, we were happy.Genuine Expedia guest review

"May your stay be fair to you!!"
The initial appearance ( outside) is spectacular! As the sidestreet garage entrance degrades the hotel because it looks like a poorly kept neighborhood. The actual entrance to hotel from garage is inviting! The lobby--dazzling!! The carpets on various floors ( viewed as elevator opened to each floor) appeared to need vacuuming. The room was cozy and […] comfortable. But, the noise polution on my floor--15th-- was disturbingly cause for reconsideration. I wonder if the noise-- elevator cables pulling cars, some type of moto, a constant buzzing--disturbing. I truly valued the piano in the lobby and appreciated the price of my room.
