We did quite a bit of travel over the 4th of July Holiday (3,700 miles by car).... I used hotels.com to book this particular hotel room, and the guy taking my booking placed me checking into this hotel on July 2nd when we were at another hotel in Minnesota on the same day, even when I asked for his 'suggestions' as we were driving from Minnesota to […] Rapid City on July 3rd. When we showed up after driving all of that distance, late, late, evening on July 3rd the young man who checked us in was helpful & courteous. There are two different buildings sections of this motel. We were first checked into the further wing, the room was sad. Smelled like someone had been hulled up in there smoking weed, with a dismantled smoke detector, and some sorry excuse for what could have been an air conditioner. (?) We did get moved to another side or wing of the motel that is undergoing construction, in a handicap accessible unit. It was much cleaner, but the idea that we were staying in the same motel as the room we just walked out of was a bit unnerving. It was my belief that we had gotten one of the last available rooms in the area, due to the holiday... If you have a chance, spend an extra $20 and stay elsewhere, or until the renovation on this place is complete. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We booked this motel from the road over the Fourth of July weekend. Hotels in this area are expensive, due to supply and demand and the seasonal nature of vistors to the area. I should have known that $$$ wasn't going to get us much, but am not opposed to simple accommodations, if they are clean. The first room they showed us was a nightmare: filthy, […] with trash stored in the room and reeking of cigarettes( supposedly non-smoking room) . Of course they would not refund our money, but at least gave us another room that was not as bad. It was under renovation and only partially completed (no closure on bathroom door) but acceptable under the circumstances. It took them about an hour to get the TV to work, which we appreciated. We managed to get some sleep and left at first light. I wish we had the custom in this country that they have in Europe, where you can see the room before you pay, but many places would go broke, I'm sure! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
