Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. The hotel is old - needs a major facelift. Overpriced!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was not properly cleaned most specially the bathroom and the hallway. Elevator was too slow and the lobby was smelly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Shouldn't have settled"
They only change your sheets every 2-3 days even its dirty. They staff will determine if it needs changing or you have to request them to change. They charge you for everything, ie: changing standard rooms. The hotel has a weird smell and the rooms are humid due to the A/C cooling system.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fair for the price but bad parking management"
Good location, 10 min walking from the beach. Area it was surrounded of drunk tourists.Had a very bad experience with the parking supervisor, very rude. Be aware that the hotel has a very limited Parking space even if you pay 25$ per night. Nobody mentioned to me that if the parking lot get full you are supposed to park into another hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"average with some flaws"
This hotel was just average. It was OK for an economy hotel. I have some minor complaints. First 25$ a night to park in their tiny parking garage is ridiculous. Pool closes at 8pm which is too early. Pool Towels are not on the same floor as pool. There is no hot tub. Exercise room is tiny. DO NOT eat at their Chilis. They are about 30% more expensive […] than other Chilis restaurants. Eat at loco moco or zippys. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Dont expect too much out of tgis hotel. Location is good. Rooms were not too big and bathrooms were wayy too small. Its as good as 2-3 star hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointing hotel somewhat close to beach"
I was not impressed with the hotel. The rooms are small. Beds are not comfortable. No desk. Bathroom had lots of rust spots and such. Very small bathroom. Not a three star hotel. Not a resort.Genuine Expedia guest review
Water did not drain from bath. Bedspreads were dirty. There was an I welcomed odor. It was close to the beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"There are probably better options elsewhere"
Within the standard prices for Waikiki, this hotel is standard in terms of what it offers and what it charges. However, specific issues with my room included a shower that was just one side of the bathroom (such that the water went everywhere all over the floor), its location overlooking Kuhio Avenue (where there was a mini-riot one night and general […] excessive noise on Friday and Saturday nights), and the day bell desk staff member who was extremely confrontational and unprofessional. I would not stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I am seventy years old, and have stayed in quite a number of hotels. I would have to say that the Ohana West, in my opinion, is rated in the bottom one percent of the hotels that I have stayed in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old, bad neighborhood"
It was okay to stay there for one night, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay there any longer. It was in a bad part of Waikiki- there were about 12 hookers just outside as we needed to walk to the store. The rooms are really old. At least it had clean sheets. The lobby is deceiving, as it looks nice. Rooms are old. Good luck find a place to park in the […] parking garage. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"for the overall service, it could cost way cheaper"
Front desk people are very arrogant. Elevator is a big inconvenient with a long waiting time room size is very small compare to what you are paying, that is not right size of the bathroom is ridiculous with no door Overall, I will not recommend this hotel to family and friends at all.Genuine Expedia guest review
"adequate but NOT luxury"
Hawaii is expensive and we all know you get what you pay for. We got a "great deal" on airfare and hotel, and we got a very low priced (for Hawaii) hotel. The real problem for me was that it was like staying at a friend's house who isn't so great at the deep cleaning. Mold around the caulking in the shower, rust in the sink, burned coffee maker, outlets […] that didn't work, etc. It wasn't enough to make me check out, but it was disconcerting to think that they didn't care enough to make a $5 fix to the caulk, or replace a $10 coffee maker. The staff was great and very friendly. The pool was nice and they have specials on drinks at the poolside bar each day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good location & activity desk but OLD place"
Money doesn't go as far when you're in Hawaii. That is very true for the price of this hotel. I choose it because of it's price and location. Its two blocks from Waikiki beach which is great but it stops there. I'm a neat freak and this place did not impress. The hotel definitely needs a makeover. The paint in the room is dull and dirty. The bathroom […] is very tiny in a standard room. I always banged the shower door against the bathroom door. The shower grout was filthy. The bottom was brown while the top of the shower was white. If the cleaning crew just used bleach once in a while it wouldn't be as bad. Didn't interact too much with the staff but they weren't too friendly or overly rude. Next time will not be staying here. I rather shell out a few more dollars for some place cleaner. The one positive was it was across the street from the only supermarket in the area with a coffee shop attached. That was convenient. Oh and the other positive was the help I received at the activity deck. Laura Cole was awesome setting up my week activities. She was friendly, enthusiastic, and fun to talk to. Her recommendations were great! I think I would only come back just to get help with her. Once again the place is on the more affordable side and it does have a decent location. But if you want a more cleaner modern place choose somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Hotel was ok. You get what you pay for."
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We wanted a Kitchenette to save a little money on food, which can get expensive in Waikiki. We only ended up using the stove once, and burnt our food. It was nice to have a cutting board to slice fresh mango, but there wasn't a decent knife. We ended up using the fridge the most, which accommodated a gallon […] of milk once we removed one shelf. Having a microwave was also useful. The room and hotel were ok, but they were a little drab looking. More than anything, I think it was just outdated. For the price I guess I can't complain too much, I was just expecting more. The hotel definitely worked for what we really wanted, which was a place to sleep and not something so expensive that we couldn't afford to do anything else. The location was good, just a short walk from the beach and across the street from the International Market. My biggest complaint about the hotel is that the chain has an affiliation with Wyndham such that there was a Wyndham representative by the Bell Desk and Activities Coordinators who would ask guests if they had gotten their "free breakfast" yet. It was not until a few minutes into talking to the person that we realized it was a breakfast and $100 AMEX card in exchange for a 2 hour timeshare presentation. Even then, the rep never said the word timeshare, it was only on the paperwork he had. The Activities Counter also was unhelpful if you didn't want to buy their tours. You can find cheaper, or do yourself. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Ohana West - you get what you pay for"
after three nights at a luxury hotel on Kalakaua, we moved to the ohana west because it fit better with our budget. it was much less expensive but the rooms were small and shabby and looked like they were last updated in the 60's. it was our karma to have a view of the building next door. parking was difficult. there were too few electrical outlets […] for all of our modern devices, internet was wired, albeit, free. waited almost an hour (after several calls) for pillows. that said, the staff were pleasant and the location was excellent if you don't need to be across the street from the beach and have a view of the ocean. i actually enjoyed the break from the luxury brand stores only a few blocks away. the vibe at the hotel was friendly and much less pretentious than the luxury hotel only 2 blocks away. If I hadn't prepaid I would have switched hotels! The hotel was well kept up in the lobby and other common areas such as the pool. We stayed on the 5th floor next to the lifts (facing Kuhio St) and above the pool & bar. The noise at night made sleeping difficult and the room needs updating, particularly the bathroom. I would not stay at this hotel again, it is suited for young party-goers!!Genuine Expedia guest review

The bed was uncomfortable and although the location was centralized, it was located on the street where women work for money. This is a hotel where you would not want to take your family or children. "Beware of Ohana Waikiki West..lots of mold, maybe bed bugs"
We arrived around 5pm. The FIRST room we were assigned was absolutely DIRTY!! Urine on the toilet seat, hair from shaving on the sink, empty beer and soda cans, "other things" in the trash can under the sink. We called the front desk, they sent up the Housekeeping Manager to check. He agreed the room was still dirty and told us WE had to call the front […] desk. We made him stay in the room while we called; then the front desk said WE had to go back down stairs (4 adults, 5 suitcases) to pick up the new key. After refusing, the sent a valet up with a new room key. The new room was descent. They "upgraded" us to a bigger room. The beds appeared to have clean sheets...we pulled off the old looking comforter and blanket and threw them in the corner. My husband and I did look for evidence of bed bugs in the seams, we didn't find any but, the next morning my daughter woke up with the classic "3 bite trail" on her arm, and my son and I had scattered bites. The bathroom had mold in the caulking and old soap bits in the holder. We wore slippers in the shower...fear we'd get warts. The air con was pitiful. Blew out more humidity than cold air. It was easier and cooler just to open the balcony door. Parking is $$/night...if you're lucky to find one. Most stalls are even too small for a basic sedan. We parked about 5 blocks away at the Banyan for $/night with bigger stalls. Used the pink trolley (free with room key) to get back to the hotel. Stay elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel was great. Stores and restaurants were close and in all directions. The shower dripped and flooded. They did not help us and we had to use towels to soak up water daily. The location of the hotel was it's only plus. The rooms were small and the elevator required you to use your key card before it will let you select the floor you wish to go to. Other than the key requirement for the elevator, the elevators were extremely slow. Every time that we came back to go up the elevator, there was atlease 5-10 others waiting. […] There are three elevators, there shouldn't be anyone waiting. Next biggest problem is that the bed was so dead, when i sat down on it, I sunk in atlease 6 inches. Soft beds are nice, but there has to be some firmness. I sat at the edge and literally slid off. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location but awful place to stay"
The only good thing I have to say about this place is the location. It's steps away from a grocery store, bar, ABC store, Ono Cheesesteaks (AMAZING) and only a couple blocks from the beach. That being said it's not a pleasant place to stay. We booked a King size bed but were put in a room with doubles when we arrived. I called the front desk to ask […] for another room but was told that there were no more King rooms left and that I'd have to change rooms tomorrow. After meeting up with someone else from our party I found out they checked in a good hour after us but were given a King bed. I had to go to the front desk and ask them why they lied to me and I had to press them for quite some time before they gave up one of the rooms with a King bed in it. The elevators are HORRIBLE. Get your running shoes on because you'll be taking the stairs ALOT! Otherwise you'll be waiting 20 min to go up and 20 min to go down. They also get stuck between floors for several minutes and they'll go up when you're trying to go down or stop on random floors. The only nice people there were the cleaning staff but you're lucky if u can understand what they're saying. The place is DIRTY, stained floors, stained walls, curtains and bed spread look like they've never been washed, roaches and ants. I've stayed downtown before in cheap hotels before but they all looked 5 star compared to this place. If ur looking for a dirt cheap place to stay this is it but you'll get more dirt than hotel. "Dated hotel in great location"
This hotel is in a fantastic location in the center of Waikiki. We particularly liked the small supermarket next door to the hotel. The hotel room came with a kitchenette that was much appreciated. Apart from that, the Ohana West is an old, dated hotel, with old beds and a small, moldy bathroom. The shower had super strong water pressure that was nice, […] but it was hard not to be distracted by all that mold. The shower itself was an old-style walk in shower with a swing out door that put water all over the floor. The tiles in front of the shower were water-damaged. The hotel has three elevators and at peak times, you have to wait quite a while for one. The Ohana West in in a great location, although the area is shady late at night, with street walkers hanging out across the street while the cops hang out in Denny's. If you are not fussy about your hotel room, then this hotel is a bargain price. If I could have a do-over, I would pay a little extra to stay at a nicer hotel in Waikiki. Hi : Just a short note --- our room was very nice with the kitchenette, new rugs etc. The bathroom was very small. The housekeeping service was very good. Response by OHANA Waikiki West Aloha Connie, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the OHANA Waikiki West hotel. Thank you also for being candid about the atmosphere outside the hotel. We are glad to hear your room was accomodating and clean, despite the bathroom being small. In regards to the bar, we do have Security to monitor the area in front of the hotel to ensure the entrance is clear for our guests and is safe. We apologize we did not meet this expectation. "Cheap stay with big rooms"
Ohana West is in a great location in the heart of Waikiki. Staff are very friendly and rooms are nice and spacious. Only down sides are that the bathrooms are very outdated, and you can often hear the guests above you flushing the toilet! The room was very small and the decor and finishing very dated. The bathroom was small and dark and i could barely see in the shower, which was tiny, about 1/2 a square meter in size. the back door/slider had broken lock/deadbolt, which isn't a problem on the 17th floor, but instead of removing it, it was just left broken in place, attracting dust and […] wildlife. "Hair in the shower"
the showers did not have lighting so you had to shower in the dark. The shower also had hair in it on the walls when we arrived. They didn't give you enough pillows and sometimes you got the plastic glasses in the kitchenette replenished and sometimes you didn't. When we asked for a room that had a brighter shower so we didn't have to shower in the […] dark, they moved us to another room that was the same however the keys to get int he room didn't work. When we went downstairs to get it fixed they sent us back up and the keys still didn't work. They sent a bellman who opened the room with his master key and confirmed that our keys didn't work and told us to wait for a maintenance person. They told us to leave our things there and go out with no way of getting back in the room or even the elevator which you needed the key for. The woman at the desk got upset that we wanted to change to a room where the keys worked. She finally did give us a room that we could get in to and although the shower did not have a light, it was brighter. The hair in the shower was gross but by this time I had given up. I washed it down myself. You can get a much cleaner room at the Miramar across the street for the same price and breakfast included. Also, if the keys don't work at the Miramar, the desk staff won't be upset with you for wanting a room that you can get in and out of. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
great location, but hotel needs long overdue re-vamp, yukky bathroom, smelly corridorGenuine Expedia guest review
My wife and I stayed here after spending two weeks in Maui. We found the room rate to be satisfactory but with it came some surprises. The bathroom shower would not drain and as a result you ended up standing in 3 inches of water while showering. The tiles on the inside of the shower were old and several of them had lost their paint. On the outside […] of the shower the plaster was falling away from the wallpaper that went around the shower door. On a positive note the lady who cleaned our room was very gracious and did an exceptional job cleaning our room every day. There are several rooms on the main floor that you can use to shower and change while you are waiting your flight as most airlines fly out late at night. We asked for driving directions and the guy on the desk said that he had not driven in Honolulu for 14 years and wanted us to take the bus everywhere that we wanted to see.
