Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. West of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor offers a somber testament to history and the victims of World War II.see all hotels in Honolulu
The only disappointment was that I was kept waiting for 5 hours when I arrived for my room to be made available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel-3 1/2 stars"
I would give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Staff very friendly and helpful.Carpet could use an occasional vacuum to get rid of the stickiness. Came in early and was able to check in. Breakfast at the hotel was pretty good, though room size was pretty small. Beach was a 10 minute walk. Lots of ABC stores to shop at. Got a room upgrade without asking. Great […] view. Street noise even 12 stories up was a little concerning as I already have trouble sleeping. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel in Waikiki area"
This hotel is a decent place to stay for the price. It is relatively close to major attractions, has a small pool (comfy chairs!), gym, and restaurant on-site that serves breakfast and lunch. The hotel staff were fine, nothing over-the-top. Accommodations are not luxurious by any means. The bed was fine, room was noisy at times (stayed on the 7th floor), […] had a run-in with a very large bug in our bathroom (appeared to be some sort of roach?). Overall, I would probably stay here again, especially if I could get a great price. Would not recommend to someone who was looking to be "pampered" while visiting Oahu. "Affordable and close to everything"
We chose this hotel because it was close to both the Honolulu Convention Center and the beach. It is in a great spot and much more affordable than staying right on the beach in Waikiki. You can walk to all those hotels easily anyway, and the restaurant downstairs serves a great breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel. staff is great"
Nice hotel, close walk to the beach, good shopping a few blocks away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel off the beach!"
The hotel is excellent for the price if you don't mind walking to the beach..In my opinion I would rather spend $125 a night and walk then pay $300 a night..Everyone was very nice and the check in and out experience was easy..The Concierge desk was very helpful planning our excursions..Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location for activity seeker"
Good location with access to all Waikiki points....walking distance, but not on the beach. Good choice if you're not into the lavish resort type places -- want to make your own agenda.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This ended up being the perfect hotel ! I mistakenly thought I had booked the Outrigger on the beach, but after navigating the hustle and bustle down there, this was a happy accident. Our room had a lovely ocean view and we could walk everywhere yet it was secluded enough to get away from the crowds when you wanted to. Nice pool area (building blocks […] most of the sun until 1230 or so). awesomely comfortable bed. Some of the staff weren't as hospitable as some places I've been. All in all, a great choice. "A little luxury for the budget traveler"
Really great hotel in the heart of Waikiki. Was pleasantly surprised by the large room size and high overall level of hotel quality, given the reasonable price. Probably some of the most helpful hotel staff I've ever encountered -- the concerierge gave great advice about activities and helped us make reservations for a car. Check-out is not until Noon […] and, for those taking a late flight home, the hotel allows guests to store luggage and use the pool locker rooms and showers after check out. This was a really convenient option that allowed us to take full advantage of the extra six hours we had to spend in Waikiki after check out but before our flight home. Fabulous location near beaches and walking distance from restaurants and shopping. Only cons are lack of microwave in the room (despite an otherwise full kitchen set up) and sometimes audible street noise. Otherwise, it was perfect. Would definitely stay there again. "Great value for area"
Matt the Conceirge was great- he saved us $200 dollars on shore excursions.. 5 minute walk to Wakkii beach. Safe area. No Hot Tub but pool area was nice. I think it was a great value for the area. Make sure you tell taxi driver which Outrigger hotel. There are two within a couple of miles. We got dropped at wrong one and had to walk.Genuine Expedia guest review
"I would return to this hotel."
The entire staff was helpful and friendly. Good location in the middle of a park not right next to other hotels. Within easy walking distance of the beach & Waikiki restaurants and shopping. Nothing special about rooms more than adequate. Liked it well enough to stay there twice.Genuine Expedia guest review
Spent 8 nights and days at this hotel...very nice and quiet. The pool was nice and private. The rooms had been renovated and updated. It was convenient walk to restaurants and trolley service to the rest of Waikiki....we would definitely stay again!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff were friendly and very helpful. This place has the homey feel of a boutique hotel with the sophistication of 5 star hotel. I will return on my next visit to Honolulu. The view of the afternoon rainbows were stunning. We were able to walk to both world class shopping and to the Hawaiian Convention Center.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for value"
The firm bed was super comfy. I loved our studio style and partial ocean view was good. Location gives great opportunity for walking, as it's not right in the heart of shopping but rather towards end of "strip". No complaints! Very nice staff. Check on parking, $25 valet per day kind of caught me off guard.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel, and convenient with driving."
The condition of the Hotel was great, and the staff was polite and helpful. It definitely lived up to my expectations given previous reviews, and the cost of the hotel. Having a rental car, I was a little concerned about the valet service, but was pleasantly surprised by their quick and cordial service. Having also previously lived in Hawaii, and knowing […] how bad traffic can be in parts of Waikiki, I actually appreciated the location of the hotel on the edge of Waikiki. It might have been nice for the hotel to have been a little closer to the beach, but having a car, it wasn't much a concern of mine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"My new favorite "little grass shack""
Aloha everyone. We recently stayed at the Outrigger Luana Waikiki and was pleasantly surprised at the overall (great) hotel experience. The location was perfect. But, the Hotel staff was better than perfect because their "Aloha Spirit" made us feel so welcomed. Even though we stayed on a lower floor (third) level that faced Kalakaua Avenue, we were […] not disturb by the traffic or any outside noises. The valet parking staff were young, freindly and helpful young people that were "johnny on the spot" regardless of the time we puled in or out. I was very impressed with the room. However, with lots of granite counter space with a sink and refrig...there was no microwave. Did I miss something here? LOL. But it (microwave or lack of), really didn't play a factor. I would definately stay here in the future and I can confidently recommend this (Best kept secret) hotel to my family or friends for sure. Mahalo for your time and Aloha! "Quiet couples reatreat"
Very nice hotel! We stayed on the 15th floor in a partial ocean view room; plenty of cabinets to unpack in, good bathroom, fridge, coffeemaker, plates, bowls, cups and glasses, silverware, no microwave but you can ask the front desk to warm up something. Great view from our room, and quiet too. Elevators were a bit rickety. The pool was a lot smaller […] than we thought, but we spent most of the time on the beach in the ocean. The only parking is IF you can find street parking (which is not free) and the hotel provides valet service at a cost of $24.00 a day. It's worth it to pay and have a parking spot everyday as well as keep your car safe. Excellent staff, friendly and helpful! There is a terrific breakfast spot right around the corner called Eggs N Things; def worth checking into! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good hotel in a good location to entertainment"
Friendly and helpful staff. Do not like the $25 daily parking fee as well as required valet parking. Valet does retrieve car quickly. Lower floor rooms have a poor view so be careful. Front desk moved us to a nicer room at no add'l fee.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Making our stay great"
We enjoyed the room, pool, and short walks to the beach. Our romm was very clean but our view was the roof of another building just a few feet away from the deck. We stayed at a different hotel for our first week and though the room was not even close to the Luana standard, we found our selves on the deck in the morning and evening as we had a view […] of the street and a partial view of the ocean. Sometimes small things end up making a big impact. We were treated very well by all the staff at the Luana. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great view, little noisy"
We enjoyed our visit very much so, the only thing I could comment on that could use improving, would be the air conditioning system. It worked well but was pretty noisy so we would toss up the idea every night of opening the door to the noisy street below (we stayed on the 14th fl) or close the sliding door and hear the air conditioner go on and off […] all night.... not so bad I wouldn't recommend the hotel but wasn't as peaceful as I had hoped. "Lovely motel with friendly helpful staff"
We loved our stay at Outrigger Luana. The rooms, services and staff were great. We had ocean view rooms that overlooked a beautiful park. The hotel restaurant was small, but offered wonderful food and drinks. This motel is on the edge of Waikiki activity keeping it quiet, but accessible to shopping, restaurants, bus transportation and night life.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"April 2012 Stay"
We booked the Outrigger Luana after staying at Outrigger Aina Nalu last year in Maui. We were disappointed at the differences such as the kitchen, which had cupboards, sink, and mini fridge, but no microwave or stove. The beds were amazingly comfortable, however, and that was a huge plus. The location was good, closer to everything than I thought it […] would be. The pool was disappointing but my sister was staying at the Sheraton so we had access to a nice pool near the beach. The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Overall, it was a good experience. If you are there to swim, you might want something nearer the beach Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Slight musty smell when first getting of elevator but room clean. Seemed odd there was a frig, dishes and silverware but no microwave anywhere in the hotel. All the staff were very helpful, friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Be careful when booking at Outrigger Waikiki - there are 3 and this is the only one NOT on the beach!Genuine Expedia guest review

The only problem with the hotel is that if you reserve two beds, they count the pull out sofa bed as one. They did not tell us up front until we check in. Other than that it was a nice hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outrigger Luana - It's a hotel"
Outrigger Luana isn't the nicest hotel I've stayed in, but it's far from the worst for the price. The good: The rooms were clean, the staff was accomodating, and the hotel is in a location that allows easy Waikiki strip and beach access (though it's not on the beach, that's nothing five minutes of walking won't solve). Also, free wifi (though a bit […] in and out) and a pretty decent little cafe/restaurant, Protea, right outslide the lobby. The bad: My room's toilet was on the fritz most of the time. My inlaws walked into their room for the first time and there was a large puddle of water on the floor from the mini fridge freezer having defrosted. Their AC unit also completely died. There is no self parking, so if you rent a car, you'll have to find another place to park or use their valet service, which is pretty expensive - though that's subjective. The hotel is also right one of the two major strip roadways, so if you're on the north or northeast side of the hotel, it can be a little loud from vehicles, especially if you're on the first five floors. OUTRIGGER - PLEASE update your bathrooms. The shower controls are horrible and you need an active vent fan in there. Those with small children - be very careful with the shower control - it's a razor thin line between freezing and scalding. To Outrigger's credit, the guts on my room's toilet were fixed within five minutes of me calling the desk and the AC unit in my inlaws' room was replaced the same day it went out while we were out and about - not fixed, but totally replaced with a brand new unit. Overall, the hotel is solid, but don't expect anything extravagant. You're in Hawaii. You shouldn't be spending all your time in your hotel room anyway. However, if that's your thing, this hotel isn't a bad place to hang around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed our stay here. It's not right on the beach but a bonus for us was the proximity to the hale koa and ft Derussy parking for only 8 per day. And it's walk able to most of the Waikiki strip. One downside was the tiny pool but with so much beautiful ocean available to relax in on Oahu who needs a pool?!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Better than expected in many ways for the price. Friendly staffs. Bed was surprisingly comfortable. Distance to the Waikiki beach was perfect for my daily walking exercise, about a mile each way. Great shopping choices for my wife. (Not so great for me, Channel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc.) I will go back to this hotel any time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Weekend Getaway"
My boyfriend and I wanted to take a "mini-vacation" and spend the weekend away from home in a hotel in Waikiki. We've never stayed at The Outrigger Luana before and after reading all the reviews and looking at the hotel through on-line images I decided to try it. After all, the rate was great and it was in a great location. We were pleased at the size […] of our room. It was comfortable and very spacious. It was also very close to many restaurants and stores that we went to. We had a great stay and weekend getaway. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great deal! a couple problems, but we would still go back!"
Outrigger Luana has a great location near Fort DeRussy beach park (7 minute walk through the park). If you have the park view you can look out your window at 6:30/7am and see a group of people below by the Army chapel practicing tai chi each morning. We (3) were there during the Nov 25th Holiday Parade down the main stretch and were able to see all […] the marching bands set up outside in the park. It was a treat to see them warming up. At night the noise from traffic was quite loud (sirens, revving engines) I had to wear earplugs for a restful night but I believe that's the case anywhere on the strip. Try to request a higher floor. We were on the 5th, so pretty low. Our room had a full kitchen which was perfect for our Thanksgiving leftovers, our huge breakfasts, and of course ice cream. We had 2 balconies and brilliant cross ventilation and air flow. The only problem with the room was the toilet. It clogged 3 times within 2 days. Two days in a row the hotel engineer had to come to the room, the 2nd time he snaked the toilet and it seemed to do the trick but I wasn't confident with it so I was used the hotel bathroom on the M level a bit. Also wish housekeeping would of swept our floor. The sand that we accidentally tracked in on Day 1 (fell off the beach towel and that was still on our legs) stayed throughout our 8 days. The concierge, Angela was great. Booked 3 tours. Despite some issues, I would still highly recommend this hotel. It's affordable and has a great location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Hotel, Good location"
I found this hotel good value for money. It was approx 10 minutes walk to Waikiki and close to the Ala Moana shopping centre by bus. "Great Value Hotel"
My family traveled to Honolulu to get my son started at the University of Hawaii. We booked two rooms at the Luana for seven nights. All of the staff we encountered were personable and efficient; particularly the greetors at the curbside podium (Bell Captain?) who were friendly and knowledgable with a fantastic Aloha spirit. Joshua and Devin in particular […] but they were all great. The room was clean and comfortable and ready for us at our check-in time. There are no cooking facilities in the rooms although there are gas grills available on the first floor patio. The rooms had medium sized refridgerators and sinks, dishware and most utensils. Make your lunch sandwiches and take them on your day trip to save money. The pool area is minimal for a family with kids but Waikiki beach is a short walk away through the park. The overall location is excellent for walking or taking public transportation to almost anything the Waikiki and Ala Moana areas have to offer. This is not a resort! It is a very good value hotel in a great spot. Bring comfortable shoes, a bathing suit, shorts and shirts. Oh, and money. Aloha!!!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
