"View Great. Parking the Pits"
The window AC unit was not fitted properly in the cutout opening. The outside air was leaking into the room because the bottom of the unit was not sealed and there was about a 1/2 inch opening along the bottom edge of the unit. The hotel maintenance person stuffed a 20-24 inch sponge like material to plug the opening but it was still leaking altough […] not as much without the "fix". The view of the Aa Wai canal was very good because you looked down on the Canoe Clubs practicing and the baseball and soccer teams playing in the fields adjacent to the canal. The $16.00 a day parking was a nightmare since we were at the hotel for 14 days. No reduced rate available for extended stay at the hotel. Coffee was free only for the first night. The staff of this hotel was awesome!! They were all very helpful and nice. The hotel itself was a bit run down but we did not expect much due to its economical price. They have security card to use the elevators since the lobby is open air, which we later came to appreciate due to some seedy characters hanging around the area. The Hilton Hawaiian Village is a very short walk, and just beyond that is a very beautiful and clean beach, so the proximity to that made it great. There was a fridge, microwave, iron, & hairdryer.....but no alarm clock, which really sucked because, my cell phone lost all reception on the island. We later found a way to set the clock on the microwave, but it just was a hassle not to have clock, which i thought would be a pretty standard item. The beds were quite hard and uncomfortable. The view from our room was quite pretty (aside from a boarded up window right across from us) and looked toward the city. There is a parking garage and the pool sits on top of it. The hotel was nicely located, you were able to walk to wakiki beach. The parking was expensive if you rented a car. The rooms were pretty clean, although I did not like the tub. I stayed for four days and smelled cigarette/cigar smoke in my room the entire time!!!! As a non-smoker, it was annoying to say the least. Hotel staff claimed they could not do anything about it. It's a great place to stay if you're visiting friends, family, do major sightseeing, hiking and all you do is sleep in this hotel room. It's not a place to hang out all day. The pool is nothing close to what was advertised. it's not a pool necessarily a pool to catch some sun, read a book and/or relax. Take your sandals, beach bag and towels and walk […] to beach if you want to read a book or relax. It's a very convenient place for public transportation or for your rental car to park for a reasonable daily fee.
