Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. West of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor offers a somber testament to history and the victims of World War II.

"Not bad"
I liked it. I didn't expect a lot but slept well in the big rooms. We had two beds with two different mattresses so we chose the one that was more comfortable. Valet parking was 23$ a day by professional staff. The room is outdated but who cares. We asked for an ocean view and were able to see the fireworks on Friday night. The bathroom was small but […] clean with good water pressure and temp control. The restaurant downstairs is a sports bar so we didn't eat there. Wifi is extra. The one thing I didn't like is the curtain didn't close all the way and if the neighboring lanai wanted to see in they could at all times until I rigged a sheet to cover the exposed opening. "Old and looks it"
The bathtub didn't drain properly, you had to shower quickly or drown. The A/C didn't run properly, it sounded like it was dying. The lobby was impersonal as well as the staff. We had to scream over the bar music while we were checking in. The location was good and was within walking distance to the beach.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tired but OK for price and location"
Stayed in room 1608 after booking a beach view. This was a top floor with massive balcony but it truly was a Mt view as you could only see the beach after being on the railing and looking back. Room and Hotel was tired but OK for price and a two night stay to be close to HI Convention center as this was the reason for the trip. I would not use the property […] for a vacation base. "Depends which room you have"
Too much noise when you have rooms in front of the street, there's a lot of traffic. But Ok for the price in Honolulu.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It served its purpose"
Location an staff are the best part. The rooms are ok. I've seen better and worst. Bed is hard, AC old, but it was clean and didn't smell bad. Didn't see the pool, but with the beach blocks away, there was no need. Overall good for shopping an beaching. Not for romanticism or honeymooners.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent size room but dated decor."
It was alright for business but the bathroom was small including the shower and the furniture and electronics were dated. Satisfactory for the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ok for 1-night stay"
We only stayed for 1 night as the other hotel we planned to stay was fully booked. It was ok for 1 night and for the price paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The lobby was modern and new, but not the rooms. It felt like a Motel 6 in paradise. Clearly we have a different definition of what "Deluxe" means.Genuine Expedia guest review

"ok, for the price paid."
The lobby is really nice and up kept, however the rooms are just ok. There was no microwave in the room, which was kind of a let down. Over all, the room was ok for the price we paid.Genuine Expedia guest review
"In need of updates"
This hotel is very dated. It could use a good remodel. The beds were uncomfortable and two small for my husband & I to sleep on side by side. The hotel staff was delightful. The location is nice, all within walking distance of the shopping district and the famous Waikiki beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fairly good location to all shopping and the beach"
Okay for the price we paid in Honolulu Waikiki Beach area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Staff is good, beds are crappy"
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Worst beds ever, sunken and lumpy. Relatively clean, outdated furniture. Mandatory valet parking for $18.99/day plus tax! Plus you feel obligated to tip every time because the staff is so nice, so that's more $$$ out of pocket.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but needs updating"
Great location! This hotel is a couple of blocks away from the beach and Luxury Row. But, it needs updating, especially the bathrooms. The enamel on my tub was so thin you could see the black cast iron starting to show thru. I left my room around 12:30 PM and returned about 3 hours later only to find that no housekeeping had been done. I called housekeeping […] and the room was in shape when I returned later that evening. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location was good, and the hotel had key amenities, but the hotel obviously hadn't been updated in many years and when I walked down the hall and into my room, I expected better. I have stayed in 2 star motels that were more comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"good for quick lay over"
This hotel was great for my 6 hour stop over. Staff very helpful and rooms comfortable enough for a quick stay. The hotel is a tad rundown and the cleaning staff needs to go that one step further.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good overall"
It was decent, service wasn't too over friendly but room was clean and always services. Rooms ate average!Genuine Expedia guest review
Average three star hotel, slightly off, but pretty close to the heart of Waikiki, price is right and the rooms were not bad. Nothing special, but perfect for a short stay, or someone who don't plan on spending the day in the hotel room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Enough"
Invest in a fitted sheet...every morning I woke up to dissheveled sheets and a bare mattress. Probably because there was no fitted sheet. Expect to park on the street several blocks away or pay $20 a night for valet parking. Staff was friendly, building was old. Lobby was nice, amenities ok, bathrooms, meh, and pool was a joke -- they really worked […] their angles to fit on on the narrow deck. But you're in Hawaii so go to the beach. Good location. "You get what you pay for!"
The room has a great view, and is close to the beach. The room was very spacious; however, the bathroom was disgusting. I only stayed 1 night, and can't imagine staying longer.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice "No Frills" Hotel"
This was a nice little hotel. It was very basic but nothing fancy. There was a large fridge in the room and the staff we very helpful. The location is fantastic- easy walk to the beach and next door to some world-class shopping.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Okay stay"
Room was on the smaller side and was okay as far as decor and cleanliness goes. No bathtub for the kiddos. Pool not heated. Front desk staff is friendly. Parking is valet only at $18.99 per day. We parked at the hotel for the first night only because with tip, it was going to cost us over $125. There is a parking garage across the street that charges […] $15 for a 24 hour period. It's $3 for 0-2 hours, $5 for 2-4, and $10 for 12 hours. You park your own car and take your key with you. There isn't anyone to tip for doing their job. The garage is locked up between midnight and 6:00, but that wasn't a problem for us because we got back to hotel by car by 10:00 P.M. and didn't need the car until 7:00 A.M. I think it's called Diamond Parking. It's safe. We had no problems. It's not a bad thing that the garage is locked up for several hours because you don't have to worry about anyone messing with your car. The elevators are locked, so even pedestrians can't get in. Make sure to take anything you might need overnight with you because you won't be able to get to it until 6:00 the next morning. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Reasonable."
My group and I chose this hotel based on its price, reviews, and pictures availble via the web. I have to say that we got exactly what was expected. Only portions of the hotel are updated to more modern features, and the room we stayed in was definately NOT up to par with the lobby. Out toilet seemed to be leaking, and our bathroom smelled like sewer […] from time to time. It didn't bother us too much since we only needed the room to shower, change, and sleep. Location wise, I think is good. We were less than a 3 minute walk to shopping on Kalakaua, and freeways were slightly easier to access from the hotel than if you were to stay more towards the other end of Waikiki. Not sure that I would recommend this hotel to a friend, but if I had a tight budget in mind, I personally would not mind staying here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Waikiki Gateway Hotel in Honolulu, HI"
Because we were only staying one night I was ok with the accommodations. I would not have been happy if I had to stay more than one night. The bed was too soft and the two of us kept rolling into the middle. The room was clean enough but there was no soap dish in the shower? We had to leave the soap on the tub and of course it turned to mush rather […] quickly. Carpet was industrial flooring. The valet were the friendliest of all the staff. Initially I chose this hotel based on price and proximity to a nearby family apartment. There are other options nearby that I would prefer to stay in the future (based on personal experience) so it is unlikely I will stay here again. In this case, cheaper wasn't a better choice. "out of the way and noisy"
We stayed in an oceanview room on the 8th floor-since both sides of the corner room faces busy street, the traffic noise on either of the lanai's was quite loud-would have liked to sleep with the lanai doors open-but too loud-all night long! Also we found it to be too far away from the part of Waikiki that we wanted to be. We found it to be adequate […] for our stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Good Deal"
The mattress was broken -- sank in if you tried to sit on the bed to put on your shoes. The room was dark -- none of the lights were sufficiently bright for comfortable reading. Although there was lots of traffic noise, the closed lanai doors and heavy drapes kept it quiet. I only saw 2 cockroaches in the room during the week I was there.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Depressing , needs updating"
The good news is that it is a large room with 2 balconies. The bad news is the drapes and the furniture appear to not have been updated in at least 35 years. TV reception and channel selection is terrible. If they renovate the place could be great again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"OK for the Price"
Good location. Room needs maintenance. AC sounded like a freight train!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap, Basic Waikiki Hotel"
If you want a hotel simply as a place to sleep, shower, and keep your bags, this is the cheapest clean spot in Honolulu. If you want a resort, go elsewhere. Also, parking is $20/day and there is a $4/day fee to use the safe in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Gateway Hotel -- Not what it seems"
WARNING: This hotel misrepresents itself online, and the pictures that they provide are deceiving. The hotel rooms are in dire need of renovation, which they claim they will do this year. The downstairs lobby is actually very nice and newly remodeled, but everything else upstairs looks the a cheap roadside motel. They'll nickel and dime you for internet […] access in the room and any additional amenities, but they'll do it with kind service and a smile. Until they refinish the hotel, stay somewhere else! Please! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small but clean"
The view was very nice and the staff were great. The hotel is dated, the room was very small, traffic was noisy but the room was clean. I didn't go to Hawaii to spend my time in a hotel. We were in walking distance of the international market or the beach if that is something you like to do. Would I stay here again? It would depend on if they had kitchenette, […] we prefer a room with a kitchen so we can cook and not go out for dinner. For this vacation it worked for us. We had a place to sleep, clean bathroom, showers, a small refriderator,a safe and plenty of sun. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Waikiki Gateway"
Business trip. Came here for a cheap night, but had to pay $10 more for internet (not available in the room, but free on the 3rd floor and in lobby) and $20 per night for valet parking. There is a convenient ABC store downstairs. There was no iron in the room. Although it was just me, there were two full size beds for me in the room. My room had a balcony […] facing the city. It is a 10 minute walk to the beech. Staff was nice. Overall, average hotel, but Honolulu is a great place to vacation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
