Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. West of Waikiki, Pearl Harbor offers a somber testament to history and the victims of World War II.

This hotel is all about location, location, location. Rooms are nice, but very small. The rooms in the historical part of the building (not the new towers) are like Manhattan sized rooms. Given the size, we were a bit annoyed that the room cleaning was minimal and that turn down service was only done on demand. It's a tight squeeze on the rest of the […] property, too. Don't expect an expansive pool with a swim-up bar or anything like that. Given the price, you'd be better off staying at the Sheraton two hotels down instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not as how i thought it would be"
Thee was mold in the bathroom, no fan in the bathroom. The tiny TV was so far fom the bed. The maid service was a different time everyday, on one day 2pm, the next 12noon, the next 4pm. The building was extremely old, there was so much street noise unable to block out from doors/windows because of gaps in frame.Genuine Expedia guest review
"On the Beach!"
Pros: The Moana Surfrider is ideally located in Waikiki. We were more than pleased with our 'partial ocean view' room and enjoyed mornings and evenings on the lanai. The bed was extremely comfortable. All of the staff from management to housekeeping was gracious and made us feel welcome. Loved the history of the Moana. Cons: Being a Westin hotel we […] expected ceramic coffee cups, not cardboard; glass glasses in the bathroom, not plastic; double-ply toilet paper. The bathroom was small and a storage shelf below the sink area would have helped tremendously. The bathtub was chipped and noticeably repaired. The drawers of the dresser kept sliding open. The closet was very small but we were there for only five days so it was adequate. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not as relaxing as I had hoped"
The hotel is beautiful!!!! I love the open lobby and the back courtyard and beach area is amazing. I can't say enough good things about the employees and their service too! However, my friend and I were traveling together and for the first two nights we were put in a historic room with a kind size bed. It was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen! […] Opening the front door touched the edge of the bed, and that's the extent of space surrounding the bed. I think if you want to keep the room historic size you need to keep smaller furniture since it was hard to walk around. Then they moved us to a double bed room after two nights, but it was right over the top of the valet facing the noisy street. That street is so noisy at night with crowds and street performers, and then starting around 4:30 am we could hear valet talking and wheeling luggage racks. It didn't seem like the windows were sound proof at all. We kept thinking "are the windows open?" because it was so loud. I think its crazy you can stay in Manhattan and not hear a sound but here they obviously haven't sound proofed the front windows. Needless to say I didn't get very much restful sleep on my supposed to be relaxing vacation :( Everything else was great except for the comfort of the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small rooms, busy hotel, beautiful lobby"
This hotel is situated within the busiest section of Waikiki. If you are just staying in Waikiki, there is no need to rent a car as there are numerous shops around the hotel and you can take the trolley to get to Ala Moana mall. The hotel is fabulous until you get to the rooms. So first, I will critique the lobby - spacious and open, light and breezy, […] plantation style. It is a beautiful hotel which is a factor in our selection. However, the rooms are small. Also, some improvement on housekeeping - I found nuts when I opened the drawer where the outlets are and one of the towels have a permanent stain on them. I do like that the rooms have robes and slippers. The front desk was difficult to get a hold of. When you call, they will call you back and there is always a line. They need more than 3 clerks. The only restaurant we went to was the Beach Bar. I had Loco Moco - it was OK,my husband had a salad and he liked it. We were very satisfied with our drinks. Our attendant was also very efficient. My daughter dropped a fork and he replaced it in a second. There is a resort fee which includes parking (at Sheraton), wi-fi, free kids meal with a paying adult, etc. If you are after location, I would recommend it. Personally, as there are numerous hotels in the area, I would most likely try others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Be careful where your room is located...."
The hotel is simply beautiful there is no doubt. The hotel room that was advertised said that there was a view. If there was a view, maybe it was one of those "if you stand in this spot and stretch you can see..." kind of things. The room was very nicely furnished, the bed was excellent but it was facing the street at the front of the hotel, which was […] very noisy until the wee hours of the morning. I put out my room service card for breakfast about 10pm because I had to catch an early flight. About a half hour after they were supposed to have delivered my breakfast, I happened to look outside and the room service card was still hanging from the door. When I commented on this to the front desk person on checking out he said "Isn't that odd considering that room service is right below that room?" But he never apologized. I am much happier at the Outrigger next door and just visiting this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Outrigger would've been a better choice..."
Our room was in the older part of the hotel facing Kalakaua Ave. There was a lot of street noise that even the air conditioner couldn't drown out. There was also a lot of rattling from the a/c until. I contacted the concierge to have maintenance fix it. Nothing was done after the first request. When I followed up the next day I was told that the issue […] was fixed which, of course, it was not. After the second request, the maintenance staff did fix the problem. Also, requested 2x that the loose & wobbly bathroom outlet (not switch plate) be fixed. That was never addressed/fixed. Charging $50 per day for 2 chairs & an umbrella on the beach is outrageous. Guests are charged a resort fee of $25 per day, which should include the price of beachside chairs. Also felt that the hotel was geared to attracting and catering to foreign guests (i.e., Japanese tourists/ weddings). I stayed here 5 years ago and the hotel had a completely different and better vibe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful location but disappointed!"
The location, architecture, & restaurant service staff were outstanding. A perfect location on the beach. We had 2 rooms. They were not able to accommodate us on the same floor as requested. The 4th floor room was not completely cleaned upon arrival. The bed was made and there were fresh towels but the sink, toilet, and shower had not been cleaned. […] The window of the slider was smeared with hand prints all over. The coffee maker was not emptied and refilled with coffee and cups. Bottled water was to be provided but was not. This was to be included in the daily Resort Fees but we had to call several times and request it. Overall, the room was old as was the bathroom which disappointed me because the pictures on line appeared different. The walls are so thin, we could hear the conversations of the people in the next room. They were very loud especially when returning to their room late at night awakening us after midnight every night we were there. The third floor room was quite different. Maid service was very good and completed early. Of all the hotels I visited while in Hawaii, the Moana was beautiful but disappointing. I do not usually complain about vacation rooms but this time was an exception since I had higher expectations from a quality hotel chain. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely, but service not as good as expected"
Frankly, we were disappointed with the level of service at the hotel. We expected more. The locatoin is lovely, but be prepared for how loud and busy Waikiki is. Also, rooms in the renovated tower are great, but in the older parts the bathroom is very small and the noise levels are ridiculous.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very Noisey Room!"
This is a beautiful hotel. It is conviently located near the beach, shopping and restaurants. However, I was given a room located over the city street. The street traffic was extremely loud, there was a group of people singing to on-lookers, sirens and horns from passing cars, daily early morning trash truck noises, you name it we heard it. Twice I […] contacted the front service desk for a new room and I was told they would do there best, but I remained the same room for my entire stay. I do not recommend the Westin Surfrider to place anyone in rooms 349 and 348. This ruined what could have been a perfect stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Terrible for families."
It was a beautiful hotel but not a fun hotel. The beach chairs were $50 per day and weren't lounge chairs like at other hotels. They will bring you drinks but you have to wait a very long time and sometimes the employees ignore you. We tried to get help in locating someone to take family pics on the beach for us but we were just brushed off. This hotel is in an amazing location, is a beautiful property on the beach and has a friendly staff. Unfortunately our room was facing the street and the noise was unbearable. "Very pleasant but expected more."
Beautiful location, building and the staff was friendly. But to be honest - I've stayed at Westin hotels in London, Paris, LA, Singapore to name a few and with the rates and legacy of a place like this - I expect a bit more. Our room was poorly arranged (for instance, the TV was against a wall where you could neither watch it from the bed or sit in […] front of it) and the room was poorly isolated form outside noise. One night there was an awful religious children's choir on repeat outside that kept us awake for hours. Other nights it was just screaming people or party crowds making a lot of ruckus. No good. Another disappointment was the breakfast menu. It is clearly made for Japanese tourists and lack many things you take for granted at any international hotel rated above 3 stars (such as sliced cheese or perhaps... ham?). Should be labeled "Japanese breakfast". The Japanese wedding mania that goes on every day (on average 16 weddings a day) is interesting but could be something they inform you of prior to the stay. The photographer included in the extra "internet/misc fee" is a nice perk. Sadly it's not really a photographer, more like a man that owns a camera. Just a heads up if you want nice portraits. Like stated above, the place is beautiful and very pleasant. I would definitely consider staying here again but would make specific requirements prior to the check-in. "Not living up to its 4 star Westin rating - 3 star"
The swimming pool is very small and I am very disappointed that it closes at 6PM. A resort pool should be open until at least 8PM or 10PM. Also, the self-service laundry is dismal. It is in the basement, has only a few machines and is unattractive and the area is messy. It was isolated and felt potentially dangerous to attacks Other guests agreed […] with me that it didn't live up to a 4-star Westin rating. I have stayed at other Westins that were much nicer. I would rate this as a 3 star hotel. The wireless internet basic speed is included in a daily $25 resort fee. Faster speeds are available for additional fees. Other than that I enjoyed my 9th floor room and balcony in the Surfrider wing very much for 6 days. I also had the morning buffet which was great food with great views of the beach and ocean around the spectacular huge Banyan tree but food choices were limited and waiters did not mention special order items like waffles. Some of the waiters were nice, but others never even smiled or barely spoke to me. I would not recommend the hotel. I expect more for the high price of this hotel. "The Postage Stamp Pool"
The Surfrider seems to be a nice enough hotel with a great location right in the middle of the Waikiki area. If that's all you're looking for then this would be fine. But, the postage stamp size swimming pool and very narrow beach was a real turn off. I think the worst part of this was the fact that although the price for the beach chairs was (as expected […] in this location) pretty steep, the pool chairs, which were supposed to be free, were barely enough for maybe 30 people. The other thing was that although they were supposed to be 'fist-come, first-served" there were reserved signs all over place. We learned that if you took care of the pool staff early, you got a reserved place. Consequently, we ended up going to a nearby resort to use their pool and beach facilities (including restaurants, bar, etc.). We would have preferred to stay around the Surfrider, but since they don't seem to think it's worth giving equal access to pool / beach, etc. to their guests, there evidently were others willing to do so. "Hotel was nice but room was way too small"
We got to our room and I actually laughed at how small it was. I told my wife that this had to be a joke! Our ocean view was only visible if you put your face up next to the one window. The window only opened 4 inches. I guess they did not want me to jump out. This was the older section of the hotel and the rooms in this setion have major shortcomings. […] The room was only big enought for the bed and the bathroom was tiny. There was very little closet space. The small refrig was jammed in a cabinet that did not fit it well. The room safe was on the floor, which made accessing it a major pain. Whoever layed out the room flunked room design. It took us 3 days before they finally switched us to a room that was slightly larger and had a small balcony. The view was much better. Unfortunately this room had an even smaller bathroom. It did not even have a cabinet to hold toothpaste, shaving creme, etc. We had to store that stuff on a table in the bedroom. We had room key problems every day. They never worked right and this caused me extreme inconvience. I made at least 25 additional trips up and down the elevator to get new room keys. One hotel desk attendant even stated that their key system was a joke. That is an understatement. We found the service at the pool and cabanas to be very good, and this is where we spent the majority of our time. The best bet is to rent an umbrella and chairs in the morning, for the entire day. The Moana has always been a symbol of a special place to stay. It's historical background and the beauty of the building. "Average hotel"
We recently stayed at the Moana Surfrider (Westin) and found it to be average. The name and brand is all hyped up, and we were disappointed in the service and room. We we first arrived, the hotel staff were not that keen on helping us and weren't as friendly as hotel staff in Maui (Fairmont). We waited a long time to check in, as 2 people were helping […] one person?? They didn't even acknowledge us waiting. I know this wasn't the Fairmont, but a certain level of service is still expected from a so called 4 to 5 star hotel'. The room was average and the bathroom needed to be renovated. The bathtub was chipped and stained, sink was small and overall cramped. Plus, the closet was inside the bathroom, which I found very strange. The location however was good and on the main street. It's in walking distance to all the restaurants, stores etc... Maybe we expected too much, but nevertheless, I would NOT recommend this hotel (especially if it's your first time to Honolulu). I would highly recommend the Sheraton Waikiki just down the street. It's more central to everything and the service there was MUCH better. We stayed there one night and really liked it! "Nice place. Rotten service."
The hotel is very nice. But given the huge cost (compared with other hotels in Waikiki) was seriously lacking in service. Staff were not very friendly and just didn't really seem to care a great deal. We had stayed at a very inexpensive hotel down the road for two weeks, then finished our holiday with 3 nights at the Moana for something special. Those […] 3 nights accommodation cost as much as the whole first 2 weeks. It was absolutely not worth it. Wished we'd stayed the whole time at the cheaper hotel where the service was excellent, and the hotel ammenities were just as good (in fact, a much better pool) and we still had a nice view, just not directly on the beach. Initial room given to us, because we had booked through Expedia was tiny. The Internet advertising was not in any way indicative of the actual hotel room. When we asked to change rooms we were told by hotel staff that that was the category we had booked through Expedia. They did, however, change us to a larger room. "Ok but..."
Was a decent stay overall. They have a great spa service in the resort however it can get quite expensive. A standard 50min massage will cost you $150.00. if you are goin with a travel card, be sure to have plenty of money in the account as they hold a large amount as a security deposit. They didn't tell us this and we ran out of US dollars. The restaurant […] is great and the service is perfect with free American style coffee but again it can be quite expensive. Four small blueberry pancakes can cost $30 at breakfast or a main for dinner can cost about $40. If you have an issue, it's hard to speak to a manager and then they don't get back to you. "TOO SMALL FOR TRAVELLING WITH FAMILY"
We have just returned from a two week vacation on Hawaii and spent our last night in this hotel. To be honest it was really a very disappointing experience. We had stayed at two lovely hotels prior to this one in Waikiki (Hilton) and one in Maui (Fairmont). both were terrific and met our needs exactly. However the last night we chose to stay on the […] beach at Moana Surfrider. We knew the room would be small for two adults and two kids but really it was very disappointing all around. the beach and pool areas are tiny and crowded and there was little chance of us securing a sun bed or umbrella. We felt the pool area was tired and dirty and the smell from pigeons roaming the area and bar was disgusting. nothing seemed to be particulalry clean and the staff at the pool were less than attentive. We also felt the room was hot, and bedding small. We had a room with two doubles as we had had in other hotels but these seemed particularly small. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. it would be suitable for a couple of single travellers looking to be right in the action but there are better options if travelling with kids or for those who like a bit more for their money. Overall not very impressed and would rather stay a short walk away at the Hilton. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great location - a historical hotel that definitely exudes grace and timelessness. All shared areas are immaculate and impressive. All staff members are professional and prompt. The rooms are very very very average. Very small and very basic. Beyond the signature bedding (that Westin hotels are famous for and we as tired travellers are grateful for), […] there was little else in the room to comment on (other than a cramped bathroom with a dated and tired shower and a very noisy and ineffecient air conditioner unit). Turn Down, Luggage Down, Taxiなど 英語で電話しても現場には伝わらないと考えておく方がいいでしょう Spanish勉強しなくてはGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"サービス悪い"
ホテルの立地条件は良いのですが、サービスが悪かったです。部屋の清掃を3回言ってもやってくれず、終いには「聞いてません」と。フロントの対応も悪く、こんなんで高い料金を払うのが馬鹿らしかった。Genuine Expedia guest review
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"改装?"
SheratonからWestinとなり大改装が行われたと知り期待していましたが、、中途半端な改築で古さはそのまま状態でした。ダイアモンドオーシャンスイートといっている割には2階のため視界が悪く、ダイアモンドヘッドを見ることはできず、期待していただけに、がっかりでした。これなら、ランクはしたでしょうが、アウトリガーやシェラトンカイウラニの方が眺望はいいかもしれません。Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"ホテルの外観は良かった"
モアナサーフライダーは高級ホテルとのことで期待していたのですが、日本に比べるとやはりサービスや部屋の感じは劣ります。 まず、部屋の壁が非常に薄く、隣の部屋の声やテレビの音が丸聞こえ。 部屋の感じも期待よりは普通でした。 また、ホテル内の食事がめちゃくちゃ高い。日本の方がおいしくてお安いと思います。Genuine Expedia guest review
"ベランダ"
本館(正面)の部屋は中庭が見えるだけで、景色が良くなかったです。ベランダもありませんでした。ベランダがある部屋と階数を指定した方がいいみたいですね!Genuine Expedia guest review
