Waikiki established its reputation as a getaway when the Moana Surfrider opened its doors in 1901. Today, more than 30,000 hotel rooms are packed in the skyscrapers along the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. At the end of Waikiki, Diamond Head towers as an enduring landmark. This is just not a 3 star hotel. The paint was peeling off the walls. The room had enough dirt in it our eyes were watering. The WiFi didn't work (apparently this is a chronic problem...). The air conditioning was a noisy window unit worse than the one I had in college. Ultimately, yes we got a hotel room that we could sleep in and take care of our […] business. But this is not a 3 star hotel that deserves to be paid 3 star rates. We've stayed in airport motels that were maintained better and had better amenities than this dive. "Room description's on Website misleading."
I had a confirmed prepaid reservation for a city view room with king size bed. The first room assigned was substandard - it only had a small double sized bed, a bedside table and a refrigerator - no bureau, no chair and no table. At least 2 deskclerks insisted that it was a city view room even though the website says a city view room has one king sized […] bed or 2 double beds, and was a certain size, all of which conditions the first room failed to meet. I had to check out of the first room - go to work - and come back to finally get the size of room that I had reserved and paid for. The hotel charges more for a city view room than a standard room, but the actual room's don't seem to meet their own website descriptions. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We can get WiFi only lobby, second floor and third floor.Internet access was terrible. I couldn't connect at all!so I had to go to Starbucks to get WiFi. Some hotel staff were not nice. "Met my needs!"
The hotel met my needs for the price! It really needs some TLC and I wish I would have been informed that the hotel sponsors a very loud rock concert from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
As a business traveler, I choose hotels based on the availability of WiFi. I check-in and then set my laptop to download files from my office while I sleep. The WiFi did not work the entire time I was there, which was a MAJOR inconvenience for me. They sent me to the business center at another nearby hotel, but working there was miserable due to no […] air conditioning. They later got the WiFi working in a room off the lobby, but that's not the same as being to work from my room. I asked them to move me to another hotel in the same chain, but they said no other rooms were available. A terribly disappointing experience with Queen Kapiolani Hotel. I would not stay there again. "Nice view but beat-up room"
I guess because i had the discount room, it was one that had been beat up over the years. There were scratches and marks on the walls and in the bathroom. There was a TV which faced the wall and a bed and no table or chair so if you wanted to watch TV, you'd have to stand up to face it. BUT the view was beautiful and the staff was pretty nice. Hotel is in a great location. That's it! Valet 25$ it should get a much better service. Rude employees. "Disappointed with The Queen"
We recently stayed at the Queen Kapiolani in Honolulu. The hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our room was out of the 60's. The sink and tub had been repainted and the new paint was chipping off. The carpet definitely need to be replaced. the hotel photos misrepresented the accommodations.Genuine Expedia guest review
Tiny room , in desparate need of update. The bathtube wouldn't drain, peeling paint inside it, and inside sink. They should be ashamed of themselves to rent a room in such condition. Internet WIFI drops connection constantly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel. Mediocre rooms."
The staff is great. Valet dudes are great. Quick to offer suggestions or ideas. The common areas are nice. Clean and interesting. Take the time to read the captions around the portraits. Interesting and historical. The rooms are pretty lousy though. They're clean but haven't been updated in probably a decade. Other complaint is that breakfast is EXPENSIVE. Smallest room I ever had. I felt like I was a second class citizen and sent to the boiler room. "Avoid this hotel"
This was my 5th stay in this hotel and most likely last. I was hoping, that after remodeling last year it would be better. Common areas did improved really a lot, but rooms did not. 1. They got to do something about those ceilings - dirty gray from 1970-s. 2. Plumbing is really bad - needs major work. 3. A/Cs need to be replaced. 4. Windows are bad […] too - its like you are outside - air just flows right through you. 5. Small, tiny ants all over your room (tables, showers, floors - everywhere. "Queen Kapioloni Real Review By A Real Customer"
This hotel needs work & upgrades. As my wife put it, if you just need a place to change & sleep then this is the hotel to book (which turned out to be true in our case due to touch & go booked events). It was in a great location at the end of Waikiki Beach. You could walk to anything close by. Lots of shopping stores near by. Parking was $20 dollars […] a day. Pool seemed nice. There were beach towels available near the pool. The only personal complaint is that I am used to a higher end hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were there from Thursday afternoon to Monday afternoon. The rooms were book through a travel agent and was order for 4 adults with 2 queen beds. The first one had one full size bed on the 18th floor; after a polite oversight we were give a smaller room with 2 full beds and a heavy peeling bathtub and sink on the 14th floor. After I requested something […] bigger and better, we received a larger room with 2 full beds and a bathtub with less peeling. Some of the elevators were not working during our entire stay(but was being worked on), therefore getting an elevator was a minimum 20 minute wait. The over price valet parking ($20 a day) because the only parking for the hotel was on the street, combined with the $30 a day charge for one rollaway bed was too much. I asked for a family hotel and saw very few families. The cleaning staff was very accommendating and serviced our vocal daily towel request. Overall, not pleased with the hotel, but tolerated it and stayed away as much as possible. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Spend a little extra and go elsewhere."
The hotel is very old. Our tour book led us to believe that it was undergoing renovation by new ownership, but in fact, renovations were nowhere to be seen. The parking garage was small spaces with tight corners. The lobby was not inviting. The rooms were quite cramped, with choices of king or double beds only. The doubles were terrible - when was the […] last time you slept in a double with someone as an adult? One couple in our group (we had 3 rooms) reserved a king room, got a double, and were never moved, compensated, or even apologized to. The staff really didn't care. Until we pushed all the furniture to the side of the room, there were only 12 inches between the 2nd bed and the table/chairs. The rugs were old, the bathrooms like a motel 6, the lanais were 1/2 sized, the windows didn't open. The staff nickel and dimed for everything, including printing boarding passes and holding luggage a few hours between checkout and flight. The elevators were very slow and, as we were 3 floors from the top of the building, they always went up before they went down, even though we pushed down, and there was no-one waiting on the higher floors. Really the only good thing about this hotel, other than its affordability, was it's proximity to the beach (1 block). But it was on the easternmost end of Waikiki, so anyone wanting to be in the middle of things won't be in any case. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not worth it"
The Queen Kapiolani Hotel was ok, but I've stayed in many other hotels over the years that have much much better customer service for the same amount of money. Waikiki is a great vacation spot. The hotel however lacked many of the conveniences I am accustomed to getting at other hotels. No internet below the 6th floor... restaurant closes early. This to me is a clear indicator of a low budget operation.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel may look decent on the website but in person it is very run down. The elevators take way to long and half the time they didn't work properly. Our main concern was our room. We booked at the last minute to stay at the Queen Kapiolani for 6 nights. Our room with a balcony was older and worn, but acceptable. Response by Queen Kapiolani Hotel Mahalo for you comments. From your room location, I believe the noise you are referring to came from a hostel that is located adjacent to our property. They are normally very good neighbors as they usually keep the noise levels down, especially in the late evening hours. I will definitely pass on your comments to them and remind them to assist us in keeping their guest noise levels under control. Unfortunately, during the time that you were here we were running a faily high occupancy and did not have rooms available to move you to in the City View category that you had booked. If we did have a room available in that category we would have moved you at no additional charge. Consequently, you were offered a room in a higher category for an additional fee. We do try to accommodate our guest requests and expectations but, unfortunately, are not always able to do so. I sincerely regret that we were not able to do so in your case. I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the rest of your vacation in Waikiki.

"It's Very Sad"
I stayed at room 921 on March 16 - 10, 2012. The lobby was bright and filled with light. I loved the stone-type floors that looked like bright marbles, which the lobby, and the second floor (conference rooms) had. The thirds floor (pool and bar) was just ok. Most of the staff did not even smile - they seemed to hate working there, so I just felt bad […] for them, and made me feel like the owners, executives, directors, "leaders", and Managers were not good people. The elevators' walls were covered with plywood panels that had little sharp pieces sticking out. When other people had to get on the elevator, I was very hesitant to move as I did not want to get splinters on me. These are the types of emotions vacationing individuals do not want to be ingrained in their memories of where they were supposed to have a relaxing, fun time. My room felt like a broom closet. It looked about 15 feet by 10 feet. My washroom around 10 ft by 3 ft. The vanity lights did not work. The shower head looked like it came from the 1950's. The shower space was really small. There was no tub. If they called that a tub, then it's a tub for small birds. The bed was really hard. Whenever I had to lay down, in my mind, I get flashes of the plywood panels on the elevators. Same plywood that they put together into the shape of a bed and stuffed with hay. It sounds mean but that's the flashes/pictures I got. Now, I wonder if I was laying on a box spring the whole time. It's very sad. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
