I liked the ease of finding the motel. The beds were comfortable, but the closet doors wouldn't even roll to open.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
there was a real draft in our room. we had our 3 month old with us and he didn't sleep well at all because of the cold. we had the heat up too, but it didn't seem to matter. The ice machine on our floor and the floor above were both broken too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Fine place to stay for a business trip but I wouldn't recommend for vacation lodging. The phone speed dial options included The Sky Bar. We called to ask about hours & were told it closed 2 years ago. The only food options were room service (minimal menu), the hotel diner & the lounge which looked more like where other hotel chains serve free breakfast. […] There wasn't anything great about the room except the comfortable bed. The shower was energy efficient meaning low pressure. No fan in the bathroom. The tv only had a few channels and no premium or pay per view options. It took at least 15 minutes to check in for our prepaid room & at check out when I was simply turning in my key, there was one staff person and three guests (waiting). We stayed one night then moved to The Little America Hotel about one block away. It was a much better hotel with outstanding service, food and other amenities. "Nice Room, Dated Appearance in Lobby and Hallways"
I enjoyed the room accommodations. Bed was comfortable and the room was updated and clean. Hallways and lobby were dated, ice-machine looked rough, but otherwise all was great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"not as expected"
We have stayed at many hotels in Salt Lake and this was the most disappointing. We tried it because it had several star rating. We requested a dryer replacement which never was delivered in three days. We tried the restaurant and the food was not satisfactory (did not eat it). The reception on the local major news channel was the worst of all the channels. […] It appeared to be a bus tourist destination. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Will never stay at this hotel, and if your smart you won't either. I paid in advance for 4 days. When I arrived they had no room for me, there excuse was there was a convention in town. I said that is not my problem, I paid in advance. Then all of a sudden they came up with a room, when I went up to the room it was occupied by a man, I was very embarrassed […] . When I went to the front desk told them what happened they said oh I'm sorry would you like a bottle of water, I said Are you kidding me. Then they said here is another room,I go to that one, it smells bad and the vent for the air conditioner was rattling so bad, I just left the room and told the front desk you need someone to fix the vent and give me my money back. So 1:00 am in the morning I'm looking for another hotel that is when I found the Hyatt. Best hotel to stay at in Utah Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Doesn't look like pictures!!!"
The staff was very friendly, however the hotel room was a little mildewy/closed up smelling. The photos on the Internet look very nice. However we reserved the "Premium King" and our room was not very nice. I'm not going to stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel needs some work"
Well when I first entered the room I thought it was nice and roomy, and that it had a good layout. Then I went to use the shower. First it took some effort getting the bathroom door closed, then the shower curtain was horrible and seemed like it needed replaced, then the shower head was either a torture device with it's stinging amount of pressure, […] or a water fountain squirting on you the other way. There was no inbetween. When I got out of the shower, I couldn't open the old painted over bathroom door without practically ripping it out of the latch. After drying off, I decided to look out the balcony, which was extremely tiny, only to find out the door to the balcony had been screwed and caulked shut. Later on I turned the AC down a little bit and went to get some food. When I came back, the AC vent was leaking all over my things. The next morning at 0800 housekeeping knocked on my door. Who sends housekeeping so early when checkout is noon? I wanted to sleep in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Average to below average stay."
Lobby, restaurant and workout facilities appear to be recently remodeled. However, room was very dated and extremely noisy during the night . . . intermittent equipment noises . . . like something in the venting or pipes. Also, tile grout in bath/shower was not particularly clean.Genuine Expedia guest review

There were holes in our ceiling, 4 patched holes, one hole. It lookes as if flood had happened above us. We could also hear the elevator and the DING every time it stopped on our floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good pet friendly room"
This hotel is in the mid to budget range. Its convenient to downtown and to the U of U. The staff was very nice. The room and furniture are a bit long in the tooth. Breakfast is better then average and does the trick. Right across the street is a local coffee specialty shop that has very good coffee. There is access to a very large parking lot across […] the street with lots of green space for walking the dog around the block. If you book expecting a budget experience it will be pleasing. If you book expecting more then you will do better else where. Its a good value for the price paid. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not special, but ok."
Room is good size, beautiful view from the 11th floor, but one of the elevators smelled urine and was like that for at least 3 days. The shuttle guy said he could give us a ride to the temple square and we waited for 10 min. and he came and said he could't. I wish he could have said no at first.Genuine Expedia guest review

The staff, especially the shuttle drivers, were very helpful and courteous. The problem was with the room maintenance. The cold water tap in the sink kept falling off, the bathroom door stuck so badly you had to put your shoulder into it for it to open and one of the bedside lamps wouldn't work because of a faulty electrical outlet. "Unfriendly staff, poor room, not staying again"
Found price to be acceptable on Expedia however when I checked into the hotel at 10:00 p.m. I was tired, was given a room on floor, overlooking garbage and gas station, no privacy, never asked if I would prefer a room on another floor with more privacy -- couldn't open curtains as anyone walking along street could see me floor to ceiling. "Tiny but comfortable."
Very cramped for what's called a "deluxe king". Bed was comfy but the parking was horrible. They lock most of the back doors at sunset. They told us this after we got stuck and had to walk around the entire building at night. We managed but I would have been terrified if I was alone. The only quick food source was a bar on site. Not suitable for a quick […] dinner after a long day driving. They just looked at us annoyed when we were trying to ask about a place to eat near by. Then I had to ask about the door situation, while holding my fast food box of leftovers. The girl up front actually sneered at me and my box. Response by Red Lion Hotel Salt Lake Downtown Thank you for taking the time to comment about your recent stay. We greatly appreciate these opportunities to get to know you and our other guests better. You mentioned our biker friends from Australia—they caught the attention of a lot of people on their US cross-country trip. They were a happy bunch, and we hope their exuberance didn’t cause too much bother. As for the panhandler…please accept our apology for that unwelcomed encounter. We (our security staff and the entire team) do our best to shield our guests from any unpleasantness or discomfort, and we regret that you were approached in the manner you described. Please know that we do take measures to avoid such incidents and we will certainly be more vigilant. Apologies are also in order for the less than satisfying food and oversight on your order. We will naturally share your experience with our Food & Beverage department in an effort to prevent these mistakes in the future. Again, thank you for sharing your comments—they will go far in helping us create a memorable experience for each and every guest. We wish you a wonderful day and do hope that you will give us another try on your next visit to Salt Lake City.

"Convenient location but zero charm."
If you're looking for a cheaper stay in downtown, this is your place. That said, everything looks old and outdated. The moldings on the doors are chewed up and coming off, the fixtures are tarnished and unclean. The balcony sliding glass door in my room was foggy and when I tried to open it, it took considerable effort (and I'm a big guy). The workstation […] was thrown together, it's as if they were told put a desk, chair, lamp, and painting in the room and the person who put them in there dumped the items into the corner. "Convenient if you stay at downtown area"
we booked hotel in quite short time so most of hotels are expensive but Red lion has a reasonable price at the time and rating is not bad. I saw some people complained that they were assigned a room to the elevator and it is quite noisy, and unfortunately I got the same room. "Pleasant hotel, just off the Traxx line."
Airport transportation was easy and prompt, only about a ten minute ride from SLC. The hotel is welcoming with a large pleasant lobby, sitting areas and a cafe'. The quasi-concierge/transportation position was always filled and the staff was friendly and prompt. The elevators were easily accessed and actually have room for more than three people! Room […] access was easy (the key worked first time) and upon entry everything seemed in order. After a couple days of use I have nothing negative to report other than as usual in most hotels the A/C unit struggled mid-day during 97* temperatures, but the room stayed 'comfortable' regardless. The sliding door onto the patio was almost impossible to open without a mano a mano struggle... Otherwise having to hold the toilet handle down through the entire flush cycle was the only other flaw I noticed. Yes, a first world problem, but it was annoying. To compensate, the shower was excellent. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Clean and friendly"
Overall I was happy with my stay at Red Lion. The hotel is dog friendly and the staff was helpful when asked for info. We had to get the maintenance person to take the bolt off the sliding patio door so we could open it for some fresh air. I was surprised that it wasn't functioning properly when we first checked in. Also the outside of the windows really […] could use a good cleaning, could hardly see the view with all the years of grime accumulated. Also I think that the front desk staff could have offered us a better room for our stay since we did have my dog. We got our room right next to the elevators and the ice machine so that my dog was constantly growling and barking at noises out the door. Pet friendly should mean a quieter room so that me and my dog wouldn't be interrupted constantly with people going by. Should have put us at the end of the hallway or something, I know I'll ask for that next time. The food was good at the café and the lobby and grounds were clean and well kept. Had a good time on vacation and hope to visit again in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
