Instantly recognizable by the Gateway Arch, downtown St. Louis is bordered by the curve of the Mississippi River. Waterfront neighborhood Laclede’s Landing is a hotbed of dining and nightlife. Music lovers should head to South Broadway, a street with the city’s best blues and jazz clubs. Busch Stadium is home to the St. Louis Cardinals; north of downtown, the Rams play at the Edward Jones Dome.see all hotels in St. Louis
The hotel looks really nice in the pictures on the website, but in person it's just run down. Not awful, but could definitely use upkeep (paint, flooring, elevators etc). Rooms were fine. Nothing spectacular. There was a weird large armoire that they put at the foot of the bed for the tv. Incredibly in the way for the flow of the room and made it awkward. […] On a positive note: The front desk staff was very nice and friendly! They made great dinner suggestions. The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect with a cheap ($16/night) garage right next door, and lots of dining options surrounding. Lastly, the ATM in the lobby is creepy. They took our card, rang everything through, then said there was an error and we couldn't get money out. Makes me concerned that it's a PIN number scam (nothing sinister has occurred on our debit card yet). Because of location, I'd probably return- but wasn't amazing by any means. "Historic Hotel needs renovation"
I was glad I knew about the upcoming renovation before I arrived at the hotel. I was able to overlook the lack of maintenance and the general old smell of the facility. I would have been ok with everything IF the bed would have been comfortable. My husband and I kept rolling to the center during the night. I would like to return once the renovation […] is complete. "Great old hotel but not the best service."
We were not told before we booked that the hotel was undergoing renovations and the lobby (no happy hour) and pool were closed. We had an issue with our baby crib and called for help which never came. Same with towels we requested. The website said our room had a refridgerator -- it did not. We left a tip for the maids the first day only to return to […] our room with having only one of three beds made up. And, the front desk receiptionists were less then welcoming. Our last stay here was much better.Great locale and love an historic hotel, but we'll have to wait and see how the renovation goes before we decide to stay again. One bright spot, Michael the bellman/doorman was very helpful and always had a smile on his face. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I booked on hotels.com months ago and when I got there the rooms were all sold out. They did find a room for me, but wanted me to pay increased price. I ended up not paying any more, but was aggrevated that the situation even arose.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Although the lobby and the room were clean and nicely decorated. The wall mounted tv hung oddly and the channels were static. When we called the service person came up flipped through the channels said he check and never came back or called.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the pictures and the description are misleading . it's not that nice .it's rather old. that being said , the service is ok, it's in a good location , walking distance to the bars and restos on Washington, nearby grocery store, the arch, and the river front. the hotel does not offer parking , but street parking was plentiful. watch the meters during the […] day though . "Don't waste your money!"
This hotel has a great location, but unfortunately, that is all it has going for it. Only two desk attendants working on game day, so it took us 45 minutes to get checked in! Our room looked at a concrete wall. Room divided up with a TV cabinet that was way too big for the room. Bed sheets looked dirty, and there were pencils in the back of the TV console […] that opened, so obviously it was not cleaned. Prefer to use stairs, but stairwell not appropriate for use. Dimly lit, and some floors no had indication what floor you were even on. I would not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice elegant hotel but no amenities"
For the price there weren't any amenities. There was no frig or microwave BUT the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A bit better than expected..."
Room was a bit warm for us; turned thermostat all the way down but still a bit warm for us. Nice variety of TV channels were listed in the "guest services" book in the room, but you could actually get only about 1/4 of them--wanted ESPN as we'd just come from the Cardinals game, but could not get ESPN in the room. A "Showtime Guide" was in the room, […] but could not get Showtime on the TV. Room was clean. I was concerned about this prior to getting there based on other reviews I read on this hotel, but pleasantly relieved. As we didn't book a room until the week of our stay, this was the only hotel downtown that had a room available (that wasn't $500!) Parking was reasonably priced ($16 per night) when compared to other hotels we've stayed at, however it was about 1.5 blocks away from the hotel. Not realizing that, we ended up hauling all our luggage from the car 1.5 blocks back to the hotel. It was nice to be able to walk to Laclede's Landing and also to Busch Stadium--both not terribly far from the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to downtown events & sights"
We had a king bed that was more like a queen, we had to search several floors for a working ice machine, there were no vending machines on our floor as indicated, the elevators are very small and need new carpeting, the room we had also needed a good carpet cleaning or just replaced and the paint in the bathroom behind the toilet was bubbled and peeling […] bad. There wasn't enough parking in the garage for the guests. Our floor smelled a little musty. They were under construction so we had no access to the restaurant or pool. The service was friendly and helpful and overall an ok motel to stay at being downtown and within walking distance of several locations, but was a bit of a disappointment for the cost. It would have been nice to have had luggage carts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I like to stay in non-chain hotels and historic or older hotels with charm. The Mayfair was a disappointment. Upon arrival there was no one at the front desk. I waited for a few minutes and then began to walk around looking for someone and then began to call out, "hello, anyone here?" After I walked around, someone finally appeared. Checkout, though […] I had prepaid through Expedia, took way too long. The room was spacious and clean but the furnishings old and worn. The room was dark, the TV fuzzy, and the phone didn't work. I called for a wake-up call and the next morning when the wake-up call came, I couldn't get it to stop. Picking up the phone did not stop the ringing. I will say that one of the staff came up and knocked on the door to make sure I was up, which was very nice. I reported the phone problem to him. The front desk was manned when we left and the clerk was very nice and helpful. The hotel has no restaurant, bar, breakfast room, etc. I won't stay at the Mayfair again.. It's been 18 yrs since my last stay at the Mayfair. The room was just as beautifully decorated as I remembered. The room was also very clean and well kept. "Not what I was expecting, but staff was FABULOUS!!"
Upon arrival, I was optimistic. Was checked in quickly. No valet parking. Parking garage across the street cost almost $75 for two days!!! The room did not live up to pictures and virtual tour online. The walls of our room were dirty and looked to have been touched up with the incorrect shade of blue paint. Beds slept ok. The pool was closed for summer...WHAT??? […] A nice swim each evening would have been nice. The coffe bar was not operational either. I chose this hotel because of the pool for my 7 yr old and coffee bar for me and my husband...very dissatisfied. On our last night, the tub began to gurgle and back up. We called downstairs and were asked if we would like to move rooms (it was 11pm). The smell from the tub was putride, so we had no other choice. We moved, without assistance, to another room on another floor for the remainder of the night. The next morning we checked out and I will say that the bellman was the nicest person at the hotel!! Stayed 1 night for a business trip. Standard King Room was comfortable: AC worked well, bed very comfy, spacious bathroom. This is a nice older building that was updated in the not distant past. Still, it was a bit worn. Rooftop pool promoted on website looks like it's been out of service a long time.
