"Understaffed and dirty"
No parking no valet very little help at the front desk and the hotel just seemed dirty Relatively Cheap is the only thing I could say about itGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Dirty and run down rooms"
We checked in late and didn't see the state of the bathroom until it was too late in the evening to do anything about it. The toilet was covered in dried urine and hair. The mirror was spotted with old soap. To boot, there was a stain on the comforter... not the kind of stain you want to see. The walls were scuffed and dented. We left the next day feeling […] itchy. We hoped that this historic hotel, right downtown, would be a great stay, but it wasn't up to par. The hotel manager was responsive and promised us a refund. I hope that their quality improves. We did not get service and needed towels. When we called they said come and get them. We had to wait in a very long line if people checking in. The fire alam went off during the night. They did not have sheets on the pullout and of course they again said come down and get them. Coffee was not restocked so we had to go down and get more. The staff was […] awful. We stayed in #712 next do to a loud mechanical room. The carpets were unclean, the elevator inside was dirty, the room itself smelled musty. After traveling for seven hours it was very disappointing and no food or drink available in the hotel. I would never book another room.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Dark and noisy"
Given the age of the hotel the condition of the rooms are okay. Elevators are rough, exercise room is tiny, Interent service is slooooooowwww. My biggest complaints were the paper thin walls, actually the door between the adjoining rooms, and the terrible desk help late that evening. The room had an adjoining room which had some folks talking, having […] a good time but sounded like they were literally in my room. When I tried to call the front desk to ask for help with the noise I NEVER got an answer. Would not at all recommend stayng here, very historic hotel but that is all it has going for it.. "Historic hotel past its prime"
While my experience was alright, upon checking in I saw 3 couples leave due to the pool not functioning, standing water in another room & dirty linens in the third. The "amenities" were lackluster at best. This is a hotel that used to be something special but nowadays is nothing sspecial at all. Just a run down hotel I will never stay at again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Rude staff, run down hotel not worth the money we paid. Room was tiny. We will NEVER stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When we checked in, the lobby smelled like a dead mouse. We had to walk two blocks to our hotel from the secondary parking garage because the one by the hotel stays full. Once we finally got to our room we were in for a surprise. The pictures online of the rooms are not accurate at all!! There were huge red stains on the carpet in every room...I don't […] want to know what it was. The bathroom had long black hairs on everything and the showers are nasty and rusting. The walls were filthy and just touching the wall would leave a residue on your hands. We had to call the front desk to bring us new pillow cases and sheets because the ones on the bed had hairs and stains all over them. We wore our socks at all times in the room and put towels down in the shower to stand on while bathing. For as much as you pay for this hotel, I would not recommend it! I've stayed at some smaller named hotels and consider them nicer than what the condition of this was. It may say on the website that they are newly renovated but I definitely did not see it anywhere. So save yourself some money and find somewhere else!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Avoid this place- ghetto."
When you walk into the lobby the aroma of dirty diapers smacks you in the face. I prepaid for my room so there was no turning back. After checking in we road the rickety elevator up to our room. Thankfully the room was better scented than the lobby. Upon checking the bathroom we were shocked to find dirty standing water in the tub as if the cleaning […] crew used the tub as the mop bucket. My sandals stuck to the dirty tiles, the bathroom was filthy. The doors have previously been kicked in to the front entrance and inner bathroom doors. Behind the bathroom door was spray string stuck to the walls. The pool was "being remodeled" and therefore the entire area was closed. I find it amazing that they charge a $20 refrigerator fee and a $16 self parking fee when they offer neither a fridge or a parking spot. The only decent thing about this place is the over worked staff and the room décor. Will never stay here nor recommend this place again. I think it is more suited for an hourly rental motel. "Worst hotel I have EVER stayed at"
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Reasons: 1)It smells terrible everywhere...including the lobby. 2) feet turned black from walking on the hotel ROOM floors 3) When I called down for more towels. They said to come get it ourselves. I did. Then when I got down to the lobby they told us that it would be a few minutes and they would would […] bring it up.... 4) there was wall paper missing on the walls. 5) THE WORST PART...there was a huge fight that broke out outside of our door.. literally ALL NIGHT. "Motel 6 at best...."
Wow, Expedia rates this hotel as a 3 1/2 stars.... Are you kidding? 1 1/2 stars maybe.. First the hotel has no parking, either you have to park at another hotels parking lot or a city lot down the street. The housekeeping staff is atrocious and should all be fired. When we got to the room, there was a huge puddle of water on the floor in the bathroom, […] and the floor was dirty. After dealing with that, it turns out that there is only one staff member at night and the front desk is left unattended for large periods of time, with no security on property. The next day, after retuning to the room, the housekeeping staff and taken the drinking glasses that we had used, rinsed them and left them wet where they were located. The bed linen had not had not been changed as requested, but the bed had been made. This is a low budget, hotel at best. If you are looking for a classy place. THIS IS NOT IT!!! "Run down and poorly managed"
I travel quite a bit and always stay in historical boutique hotels so the Mayfair seemed to meet the bill however they need to fire all the management and then perform much overdue maintenance. Specific problems I had: (1) when I went to my room the door was wide open and no-one was in the room (spooky); (2) the first room they gave me had no electricity […] nor did the phone work. (3) the second room had lights but the phones still didn't work and the tv randomly turned itself on during the night, I had to unplug the TV. (4) No soap in the room. "terrible two days"
I can only begin by saying that our stay started off by finding out that the roof top pool was closed due to damage from a hail storm. I can understand it being closed but do not understand why I wasn't told of this considering our reservation was booked for July when everyone knows it's probably going to be hot and it was, 107 degrees the Saturday […] we were there and NO POOL!!!!!!! Secondly, the A/C in our room was pathetic. There was no thermostat to set, only a dial that was either all the way up or all the way down. We had it on as cool as it would go and it was barely tolerable. Third, when my wife went to make coffee she found an old packet of coffee in the coffee maker that was where the water is supposed to go and it was moldy. Obviously no one had checked to make sure the coffee maker was clean. All I can say is we will NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Definately paid too much"
If you're the type who likes buildings for their historical value then you might like it, although I don't know what the history behind this place is. For the price I paid for my single King I could have stayed four nights at a nicer motel. My thoughts were since it was a hotel and in the downtown area I will gladly pay that much and splurge for a nice […] place for my wife and I. The bathroom was filthy so we had to call housekeeping to come clean it, which they did in a huff and with no appoligies. I called the front desk and it took […] almost 2 hours to get any towels and then I had to ask again for shampoo, as the front desk failed to notify about the shampoo/soap. "GIGANTIC Armoir in the MIDDLE OF THE ROOM!!"
We'd read some scathing online reviews of the Mayfair prior to booking our reservation and were thus accordingly skeptical upon arrival. We decided to try it based on the price / location combo (both of which are great). Once the front desk attendant decided he could clear time in his busy schedule for us, we got our keys and went up to our 6th floor […] room in one of the Mayfair's vintage 1920s Claustrophibia-brand hotels (the elevator was literally 4x4 feet in my humble estimation). After seeing our lives flash before our eyes in the elevator (I think they got these things from the set of "The Shining"), we walked into our room to a now-laughable discovery. Still to our disbelief, THE ARMOIR WITH THE TV STAND AND CLOTHES DRAWERS WAS SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM!!! In the middle of everything; the TV stand literally divided the room in half. At some point in the distinguished 700 year history of the Mayfair, somebody decided this was the best plan with which they could come up. Not put the TV stand against a wall and remove the early 18th century chair, not get a SMALLER TV STAND, but put the armoir in the middle of the room. We were not surprised given the incompetence of the staff. The walls were beat up and the carpets stained as well. That said, the bed was fine, the bathroom was clean and updated, and the location was great (walking distance to Busch Stadium and 2 blocks from the Washington Ave bars). We gave this one star given the inexcusable armoir debacle. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
One of the worst hotels ever. - When checking in, had to wait for the front desk guy to walk back from the cafe and finish his chips before he would check us in. - Room was dirty. - Put the do not disturb sign on the door because I had a conference call. Housekeeping ignored the sign and literally banged on the door yelling "housekeeping." - Reported […] this to the manager, also asked for pillows since the pillows in the room were flat and hard. (I had to call someone else to get the pillows delivered.) - The following day I had to call repeatedly to have housekeeping come clean the room. They finally cleaned it at 5:30pm after I talked to the manager. - The fire alarm went off on our floor only. There was no evacuation, no one was in the lobby/front desk. There was just a complete lack of interest by anyone on the staff to assist the customers. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Pretty miserable experience"
Where to begin with this stay, let's start with the room. Nice flat panel TV and comfortable bed. However there was holes patched on the walls, but they weren't painted so it looked like the room was being renovated but never finished. There was dried food on the floor that had never been vacuumed. I saw a small bug crawling out of the electrical outlet. […] The room I was in had an ajoining door that was paper thin, I could hear everything going on with the couple next door, I do mean everything. Of the three elevators only one worked so I had to either take the stairs (7th story) or wait at least 10 minutes for the elevator. One of the few bright spots was the restaurant, the Don Shula steakhouse on the main floor of the same building. Great service and excellent food there, a nice refuge from this hotel. "Worst hotel in the United States"
This was honestly the worst hotel we had stayed in across the US. We arrived at 9pm to check into our room. We were informed that the room was not ready yet because "they had been busy". I was offered a room with 2 double beds that was ready but not at a reduced price which was not acceptable. Having been told the room would be ready shortly we waited […] and waited for nearly 30 minutes after a long day of travel. The manager offered us a drink at no charge which I politely declined. Finally our room was ready but had to wait another 10 minutes because only 1 of the elevators was working and several people were in line. We arrived at our room fell asleep and woke the next morning and noticed dirty sheets and blankets on the bed. The light fixture was broken in the bathroom and several stains on the walls. The bedding was stripped and maid sign was put on the door and left for the day. Returning at 8 pm the room had not been touched at all. No bedding towels nothing. I as well as my boyfriend immediately called the front desk and said I was coming down to talk in person. The "manager" said again the hotel was busy and he was doing nothing. No room upgrade no discount. Nothing. And said he would have me removed from the hotel if I wouldn't calm down. At this point we were furious. If I hadn't prepaid online for this hotel I would have walked out then and there. The "manager" said he would send someone up to clean the room and that was all he would do. I have stayed in many hotels across the United States and have never been treated so rudely in my life. "Experienced Traveler: beware, don't stay here"
I've taken the time to write maybe one review & only reason I'm writing this review is that I wish I would've known how bad this property is run. 1) NO PARKING/NO VALET! Be prepared to use meters or pay cash in the Renaissance Hotels garage EVERY time you go in/out. Only hotel in St Louis without parking. 2) On one of the busiest weeks of the year […] (marine week/sheriff's convention) both elevator's were broken. Not to mention spackle patches are on the walls & the room feels like a notch above a Motel 6. 3) They don't clean the rooms. Came back at 5 p.m. & my room was not clean. Front deal non-chalantly replied "sir, you know it takes time to get all the rooms cleaned." Poor service, un-accomadting staff, rooms are not clean, poor maintenance, no parking... I checked out early and went across the street to Renaissance. Took the hit on the room. DO NOT stay here. You've been warned. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Roberts Mayfair in St. Louis"
Thought this might be a hidden jewel in the heart of St. Louis. A historic hotel, great price, etc. The pictures are great, but the reality was not. The room and hotel were not very clean. Looked like a soccer game was played on the walls. The elevator broke, but they fixed quickly and had another to use. Bring cash for parking, the only choice is a […] parking garage about a block away and it is cash only. Room service may decide to go home early, so plan on having dinner options selected and walk in pairs. If you stay here, I suggest paying for a larger room, especially if this is a nice occasion.
