"A Charleston Must!"
The Vendue Inn is quintessential southern hospitality. Pleasant staff, delicious food, quaint traditions (cookies&milk every night before you go to bed!) and of course, amazing location in historic downtown Charleston. My boyfriend and I were treated like a king and queen and every member of the staff had a great recommendation for us while on our trip. […] This made our visit super easy. The room was spacious, clean and looked out onto the street (Vendue Range). Although we didn't use them during our visit, the hotel offers bicycles for rent and Charleston is a very bike friendly town! "Extraordinary experience"
We have traveled extensively in the US and Europe and our stay at the Vendue was superlative in every way. The room was beautifully appointed with a 4 poster bed, luxurious linens, beautiful curtains, etc. The only downside was that there was only one easy chair in the room. Breakfast came with the room rate and was superior. It was served in the dining […] room with one of the most gracious waitresses we have encountered on our travels. The "free" breakfast included yogurt with fruit and granola, a pastry, fruit, juice, coffee or tea. The tea was made in a pot - for someone who likes well brewed tea a lovely surprise. You could order from the menu for very reasonable upcharge. I added a poached egg and was only charged about $1.50. The service was consistently cheerful, polite, and gracious. This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Also - it was in the historic district just a few blocks from the historic market and excellent restaurants. "Nice Inn but a little tired"
The service was excellent here--staff was fabulous. We like the location, however we were only there for 2 nights, so it worked for all the places we were going. "Reservation problem"
The reservation was handled poorly. We reserved two rooms, preferably together, several weeks in advance. When we arrived, the rooms were in separate buildings. In one of the rooms, the TV did not work at all. The desk clerk claimed that they were 100% full and could not move us. Fantastic 3 day stay with my wife. Felt like we were staying at a private residence. Staff very well educated and informative. From check in, parking valet, room service and even the cleaning staff, everyone was so professional and friendly. They knew of all the popular places and even suggested other great restaurants and sites to see. No problem paying […] the $18 per day for valet parking. The Vendue Inn is located near the waterfront park, and is close to the Charleston Marketplace and many fine restaurants. The staff were very friendly and professional. Hotel has rooms in several buildings on the same block as hotel. Most of the rooms in the building across the street have no windows. I was in a large room with no windows and a gas fireplace. A brief history of our property, we have eight historic buildings, six on the south-side and two on the north side of Vendue Range. Our 24 Vendue address includes 7 interior rooms, four with skylights. Interior windowless rooms are not uncommon in the historic district and may be the best selection for a savvy traveler exploring Charleston. Guests still enjoy the many amenities including a plated breakfast, complimentary beach cruisers, afternoon managers reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres, evening milk and cookies and turndown. The staff is extremely helpful in this quaint, well-located inn. We were upgraded to a fireplace room, which we enjoyed very much. I stayed here for my honeymoon. Our room was across the street from the main inn which was weird and looked nothing like the picture on the website. The entrance needed a key which was also odd considering the main entrance had a doorman- it made me feel secondary and unimportant. Our room was ok- poorly painted with a small tv and no mini-fridge. […] We had to pay $18/day to park our car which I was not aware of at the time of booking. This was frustrating. We tried room service and it was ok at best. The food in Charleston is amazing so we expected more. The concierge seemed uninterested in helping us with tourist info and the lobby was lacking. Overall I'd give this a 2.5/5. It was not worth the money at all- the only saving grace was the location. Room is cramped with oversized furniture, bathroom vanity is way too low and toilet too small. My wife and I were attacked by bed bugs every night. The staff is overly polite yet incompetent. The Hotel was clean and in order. Our bed was horrible! The head of the bed was much lower than the foot of the bed. We actually moved the pillows to the foot of the bed so we could sleep.
