Grounds are gorgeous, azaleas were in bloom, sun was shining, spring, not hot. Absolutely enjoyed the grounds. My husband thought the rooms were designed in Danish style, minimalistic, a bit odd for americans. I thought it was in line with slave quarters but upgraded, spacious. We loved the stay, it was clean condition and the activity were excelent. There are two thing which need to be address the tv, it was small probably a 20' and not a flat screen, also there are hardly any channels. We hardly spent time in the room with so much things to do, but it eould have been nice to have more options.

I booked a standard River View room but upon arrival found that we had been upgraded at no additional cost. The suite we were given was fabulous and was furnished with 2 sofas, a 50+ inch big screen tv, two sided fire place. A beautiful place with a lovely staff. The architecture was very unique, unlike a traditional "inn". The units blended well into the surrounding nature with ivy along the exterior walls. The ;ocation overlooking the Ashley River was beautiful. it was clean and staff was very friendly!

Had a wonderful stay. Great evening wine/ beer and cheeses. Only a short walk to Middleton Place. We were fortunate in that the azaleas there are at their peak and are spectacular. Only caveat is our lower-level room was accessed by steep concrete steps. Could be a problem for some folks. Must be careful and be sure to keep hold of railing!

We had the most incredible time at Middleton Place. The room looked just as it did in the pictures and the view of the courtyard was so pretty. I don't think any of the rooms had a bad view from what I saw. The Inn was so unique, I'd never been anyplace with a room setup quite like it. Walking around the grounds it felt like I was at a retreat with […] quiet places and hammocks all around. The walk from our room at the Inn to Middleton Place took less than 5 minutes and we spent 2 hours doing the self-guided tour which was incredible. We walked to dinner which took about 15 minutes but it was so serene to be walking by the lake with no one else around. My husband is a chef and graduated from the CIA, he always has constructive criticism no matter what restaurant we go to and he couldn't think of any way he could have made our meals better. I highly suggest getting a reservation and driving over (the walk was a bit long). Our favorite parts of the trip were the fireplace, the large tub and the alligators! We got to see two of them near the butterfly lakes. They didn't budge as we got near to snap a few pictures. They seem quite used to having people around. Oh and the gardens at Middleton Place were gorgeous. All in all a wonderful place to stay for the day. Read more

My wife and I spent the weekend here and had a wonderful time. Our room faced the woods and the Ashley River. The view was magnificent. The windows had shutters on them, so during the day we could open them for the view, and at night we could close them for privacy. We enjoyed the fireplace in the room. There was ample dry split wood outside on a covered […] rack. The fire made the room feel really cozy. In the evening there is a gathering in the Lodge for complimentary snacks and drinks. Also the complimentary breakfast in the morning was very good with homemade breads (six different kinds), hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, home made yogurt, home made granola, and cold cereals, plus juices, coffee, etc. We also enjoyed strolling through the gardens and touring the plantation house next door at Middleton Place, all included in the price of the stay. This a great place for a weekend stay when you just want to get away from the rat race of everyday life. We loved it! Read more

A step back in time. Refreshing elegance without being overdone. Live only 5 miles from Middleton and never went but will go back again and again..as long as I stay at the Inn. The staff was wonderful and the wine reception was better than expected. Highly recommend to any who want to relax in the beauty of nature.

Our main issue with the hotel was the fact that the website description and pictures didn't mention the fact that the area is VERY rustic with dirt roads and sandy parking lots. We were advised in the literature to not feed the animals, which included gators. The area is near the river and we had a beautiful view from our room, but we were in the wild. […] The issue was not that the surroundings were rustic, but that this was not stressed in the information provided. The images on the site are very strategic, modern, stressing the European design. Next, the restaurant was not close to the rooms and you could not park near it. You had to walk a good quarter to a half mile (depending on if you cut through the grassy area where the animals roam) to reach it. After the trek, the food at lunch was mediocre. The breakfast was limited and quite bad for SC where standards are high. There are so many wonderful SC restaurants at all price ranges. There is no excuse for fake eggs, re-toasted/heated biscuits and sausage, and stale granola cereal. As far as the room, we had a good sized room with a 20" tv and large bath. The room was ok, but don't expect the luxury shown on the website. We will not return because we are not rustic ourdoorsy folks. Read more

My daughter and I decided at the spur of the moment to take a girl's weekend trip. I booked a room the night before we left. Got a little lost because the Inn is out of town and it was dark, but called the front desk at the Inn and was directed straight there. All the staff were helpful and courteous, great view from the room, the Ashley River could […] be seen between the Inn and the Gardens, was impressed with the room itself, had q-tips, cotton balls, herbal lotion and bath salts available in the bathroom. The bed linen smelled of lavender. Quiet, serene and romantic for just married couples. The Middleton Garden tour was informative and beautiful. Restaurant was pricey, food was great and you could walk down a trail around the river to the restaurant that was lit up by solar lanterns. Signed up for Expedia package which stated hotel had a full breakfast and some type of indication that it was healthy. Everyday of the stay was the same breakfast - muffins, juice, whole fruit, coffee, tea and oatmeal with too much salt and butter added. Airline delay caused us to arrive a day late and stay an extra day -- we were charged more than […] the agreed pkg. rate for the extra day. Hotel is extremely far from Charleston attractions and the road to it seems very dangerous - hard to see signs in the dark and each time, some one was tailgating us at 55 mph when we needed to turn in. STAFF AND THE PLANTATION TOUR WERE THE HIGH POINTS. My advice would be to only stay here one night or 2 max. to see the plantation and spend the rest of your time exploring the beach areas and downtown. Read more
