Dating back to Colonial times, Charleston, home to 120,000 people, was nearly obliterated during the American Civil War. However, some historic buildings remain and are popular destinations, including Fort Sumnter, Boone Hall Plantation, and the Old Exchange Buildings. The South Carolina Aquarium, home to 10,000 plants and animals, is another popular tourist attraction.see all hotels in Charleston
Breakfast and worker during breakfast was very good. Sheet and blankets had stains on them. Bed pillows were very lumpy. When provided "clean" blankets they were not packaged. The hotel manager changed our room and provided better pillows and no stained linens. The blankets were rough. This hotel needs some major improvements.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great, inexpensive spot in Charleston"
Really enjoyed the hotel, slightly out of the way of the historic district but really not a problem at all. I would definitely stay here again and for the price compared to the rest of Charleston, definitely worth it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Comfort Inn Charleston Thank you for staying with us while you were visiting Charleston. As you stated we are not in the heart of the historic area but there is a free trolly that picks up right next to the hotel and that will take you down to the heart of the historic area. We look forward to seeing you again.
"First trip to Charleston"
Stayed there the week of OCT 4-7 for a friends wedding. Location was close and convenient to Calhoun and King street, a little far to walk but we found parking around the area. Front desk stayed seemed overwhelmed when we initially tried to check it at 1pm and said rooms wouldn't be ready for another hour at the earliest. Room was decent with huge bathroom, […] but not the cleanest place I've stayed. Bed was comfortable which is important, but water pressure if shower was awful. They had a nice little breakfast each morning for guests, so that was an added bonus. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Just ok...a little far from center city. Parking is an issue in Charleston, so you must either pay for public or walk. Free Trolley is offered by the City, but only runs certain times. As far as the room...clean and comfy for a 2 night stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location for Hospital/MUSC"
This hotel is in a good location for those needing to be near the hospital complex or the MUSC campus. However, f you are a tourist wanting to be downtown, it is about a 35-45 minute walk. There is the free Charleston trolley system that picks you up right outside the hotel every half hour and takes you to the tourist center. It is a 2 star hotel, so […] it isn't that nice or updated. "Showing its Age - Inside and Out"
Great location in Charleston. All of the staff was very friendly, courteous, professional. Great morning breakfast area - and super attendant. Rooms are clean. Only drawback is that the age of the facility is showing; definitely needs a re-model or sprucing up to be competitive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was OK. The people who stayed across the hall from us where in the hall screaming and talking in the middle of the night. I finally had to get up and tell them to go to bed and I asked the hotel staff to please consult them about their behavior if they were staying again the next night which they did. Noise was an issue anyway as the doors […] were extremely loud opening or closing. The beds are not very comfortable here either. If I go to Charleston again I will try to stay in a location where I can walk to some venues which will cost more but be worth it in the end. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Easy access to Hwy 17, but this is NOT downtown/historical district which Expedia said it was.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not bad for the price"
This hotel was located in the hospital district but the free trolley picked up and dropped off right at the hotel. That was nice! The hotel is older but the rooms have been updated. The free breakfast was much better than I expected! I would stay there again. Only downside is that you are not in walking distance to the French Quarter.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and affordable"
The room was clean and affordable considering the Charleston area. As they don't have their own shuttle service, it is a little tricky getting to the market area of Charleston. You have to get on two different bus lines to get to Market Street or do some walking. The room was clean and the bathroom was large enough to move around in. I did notice a […] layer of dust on the clock radio but the rest of the room was nice. The staff was very friendly and eager to help out. Overall I would recommend it as a nice place to stay. It also has easy access to the highway. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

THe hotel was in horrible shape, the photos can t be that hotel, my room smelled bad, there where cigerette burns in the bedding in a non smoking room, the pillows where like paper, and oh parking what parking, had really no parkinh g but a trailer could take up 4 spaces, run from this place!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall, the hotel was fine; location on the trolley line was very convenient. The breakfast was particularly good quality and variety. Beds were very comfortable and the room was quiet. But, our room had a persistent mothball/heavy cleaner smell and two of the pillows smelled so bad, we had to put them on the floor away from the beds. Also, the parking […] is very tight and oddly enough, one couldn't use the stairs within the hotel to get to and from the first floor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
At $98/night you can't expect more for the money in a city like Charleston. Staff was helpful. Breakfast good. t was just too far away from center city. Hotel parking totally inadequate.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fairly convenient, nice but a mildly irritating"
Basically it is a very reasonable and nice hotel that I have stayed at quite a few times in the past. In general, I like it and will return. Small detractions: Having spilled some small things on the floor the last two times I was there, I noticed both times that they don't seem to vacuum in the days I am there, though the room is clean enough at the […] outset. As I had occasion to watch a few movies, it was mildly irritating that the TV ordering system wasn't working in the room as each time I had to call the front desk and wait 15-30 minutes before they could make it work. (I do think they were pretty full at the time.) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hospital location only"
The description for this hotel said a short walk to historic district!,,, SO NOT SO. It truly is a good way away from the Market, and the Historic District, much more a place to be if you need medical care or to be near a loved one in hospital. Very busy, on weekends, could really use more staff.. To help guests with questions, breakfast service, check […] in and out. Do not discount Charleston for a visit, just find a better location. "Needs housekeeping improvement."
Good value. Basic amenities, nothing special. Security should be improved as stairwell exit door to outside was always open/unlocked. Breakfast is good. WiFi is adequate. My room was quiet despite being close to elevators. Good A/C. Glaring deficiency was w/ housekeeping. Towels left on floor were not picked up for laundering. Had to notify front desk--problem […] was corrected quickly. One day, room was not cleaned at all despite room being unoccupied all day. Parking is free, but poor and inadequate. "Decent room, free trolley, 10 min from downtown"
This was a decent & comfortable stay. Free continental, free Internet, free trolley which takes you to all of the main city destinations. Trolley stop right next door, friendly staff. GREAT pricing, especially if you book by cell phone to get their mobile rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The bedding on our beds was rough, scratchy and and very thin. It was marginally comfortable. It was hardly worth $167/night. We had an issue when a scammer called our room pretending to be the manager of the hotel and tried to get personal information from us. We declined and went down to the front desk where we were told it was a scam and that the […] hotel would never ask for personal information from a guest. While that was comforting, the hotel was not interested in letting other guests know to beware despite the fact that many others in the hotel had also been contacted. We felt that was negligent. The breakfast was poor with the eggs old and hard. It was a very mediocre experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I requested and got a single queen size bed room for two. Big mistake!! The room was by far the smallest room I've ever been in. We have traveled several times to France and stayed in local places. France like most European country have very small accommodations. This facility takes it's all. The bathroom was barely negotiable and we could barely move […] around the room. I complained to the front desk but was told they had a full house. For the nightly charge, you should take this hotel off of your site. It is not worth it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location for free trolley downtown"
Beware of jacked up prices for events such as Cooper River Bridge Run in April. Charged 3 times the rate of previous nights, including Easter weekend. Huge ripoff with no warning. First night had to change shower head that sounded like jet airplane taking off and scared the neighbors. 2nd night no hot water and then flood made Business Center downstairs […] unusable for 2 days. Very good location, trolley stop to downtown right in front. Easy freeway access.Close to drive to fabulous restaurants such as Hominy Grill and Xaio Bao Biscuit right on Rutledge Ave so did not have to go downtown or eat at the close-by fast food chains. Pleasant, helpful staff. (except they didn't tell us abut the exorbitant rate when we booked 2 more nights.) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Close to downtown"
This hotel is clean but old and needs updating. Not enough parking spots, you have to park car at the bank parking lot next to the hotel if you arrive late at night. But it was a good experience for a 2 night stay and a last minute reservation.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our room overlooked the pool or as my children called it, "the cesspool." It was. It also seemed to be where the smokers went and where they flicked their cigarette butts. It was the most detracting part of our stay because the front desk, housekeeping and breakfast staff were both friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It was an OK hotel"
Our stay was fine. Average hotel. Price was higher than experience should require but it is in a location close to downtown, it was, however, a lengthy walk to get to Market and Meeting Streets, etc. Free Parking in lot adjacent to hotel. Breakfasts were good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Basic hotel but acceptable"
Little off from the main attraction of Charelston, but only a few miles by car. Room / hotel basic but was decent. Breakfast was good too for being included in price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff was top notch. Comfort, cleaniness, breakfast were all very good. Parking is tight, but hotel doesn't charge for parking which is good in that area. Our only concern was the security due to an incident that took place thru the early morning hours. Although the situation was handled it took over an hour to get something done. Not a life treating […] incident - 2 rooms directly across coming in after 2 am and not being respectful of other guests. Took 3 calls before this was taken serious. Although this did cause lack of sleep, we would consider staying here again. I think this isn't something that happens at this location on a regular basis. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average at best"
A place to sleep that is about it. The beds are small and uncomfortable. The shower was poor and parking is insufficient. Stay in downtown Charleston.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Just as Advertised"
Great beds, but the room had not been thoroughly cleaned. French Fries just under the bed. The location was only a 15 minute walk to the top of King street. There is also a free shuttle bus system if you prefer. Breakfast options were basic and by the afternoon the coffee was a bit cold. However I would stay again as the price is right.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Historic Downtown... but not close enough"
The front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful. The main reason we stayed here was for the shuttle to and from downtown, a shuttle we thought was associated with the hotel... but in reality it is the free public transportation. That was not clear to us. Because of frequent stops it took us about thirty minutes to get downtown where you are dropped […] off at the visitor center. This is about a 10-15 minute walk to meeting/king st. We decided to walk a few times and it was about a 20 minute walk to king street. Our room seemed to be very out of date but yet recently updated at the same time. The carpet and headboard seemed to be new while the paint in the shower was peeling. The bed was terribly uncomfortable for the two of us, too hard, and we didn't sleep as well as we could have. Another downside to the room was the noise level. There is a small yet significant crack between the door and the floor so you can easily hear everything that is going on outside of your room. The walls were also thin so you could hear everything going on in your neighbors room. So if you want to get a good nights sleep be prepared to bring earplugs. If you plan to sleep in past 9:15 be sure to place the do not disturb sign on your door before you go to bed because that is around the time the maid service comes by. "Good Breakfast (but not much else)"
Television reception was marginal. Sink had no stopper. Worst part was the heater/AC unit. Heater overheated room even when it was set at 64 degrees; AC function was essentially non-existent. Finally, the door to the in-room refrigerator had to pried open. I have to say that the continental breakfast was excellent. However, I would not stay here a […] gain. "Only one Sat. night room available"
I arrived about 3:30 and asked the desk clerk if they had a restaurant and he said no, just for breakfast, which was very good. I was pleased with our stay because we had a car, and the location is close driving-distance and quiet. It is not walkable to the sights in Charleston. The perks were the coffee and breakfast offered every morning and the big, comfy bed and nice decor in the room. I was pleasantly surprised by that. The bathroom left much to be desired, but it was clean. […] The iron was not clean, and left marks on my boyfriend's work clothes Monday morning. However, that was my only real complaint. "This place is fine."
I used this place as my last night one day in town stay. For that it was just fine. I would have been very disappointed if I had to stay there for a week or something. Staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean and very comfortable. Not sure why this and many other hotels have " Double Beds". If you travel with your spouse and teenage children this makes sleeping rather tight for 2 on a bed. Queens should be minimum. "Disappointed by location and smoking at pool side"
We chose this hotel because it said "Historic Charleston" but it is located near a main road, across from a hospital and just past an electric relay station! Overall, the inside of the hotel was as expected. We were very annoyed by the smokers coming to the pool area just to smoke. Given that the pool is located on the 3rd floor with very little space […] around it, we ended up swimming with our children in smoke! "Decent place to stay"
The staff was not particularly pleasant from the front desk to the housekeeping. There was a permanent smell of perfume in the entire hotel that bothered my sinuses. A real stretch to stay this hotel is in the Charleston historic district. Convenient to major roadways and situated as a nice central point to many popular tour sites. Water ran from bathtub spigot continuously, as it could not be turned off. Toilet would flush by itself about every 45 minutes, as there must have been a leak in the holding tank.
