There were a couple of outlets that were loose in the wall, so therefore the plug itself wouldn't stay in and we couldn't use the bedside lights. We found a bug in our bed, and when we took a shower the water builded up in the tub and took forever to go out. And when one of our party returned on the ferry it took an hour for her to be picked up, on the up side the staff was super nice, but that didn't make up for the bad. With most everything under $200 a night in the Quarter booked, the Hotels.com phone rep recommended this Quality Inn. I wish he hadn't. It was way understaffed and very booked. One person on check in, the line to the door, and hardly any parking since people who stay here before going on cruises like to leave their cars in the lot while they vacation. Grimiest, dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed. The old cemetary is clean by comparison to this dump. It should be put out of its misery. The staff attitude matches the run down nature of the property. "Decent for a budget trip"
Pros: -Cheap (especially when compared to staying in the city itself) -Hotel offers complimentary shuttle to a free ferry to cross the river into downtown. I thought this would be a long trip, but the (Algier) ferry offers a pretty nice view of the city and makes for a pleasant commute. I thought it added a nice touch. Gretna ferry is a 3/4 mile walk […] if the shuttle is down. Cons: -Breakfast wasn't the greatest. Constantly ran out of coffee, no tea - the bare basics here -The hours of operation of the ferry are not conducive to a late night (or very early morning). I was here at a conference, so it didn't really affect me, but if I come back and plan on drinking in the city, then I'd need to take an (expensive) taxi back (>$20) -Taxi service from MSY to the hotel was AWFUL. $50 one way (without tip - $33 from MSY to downtown). Can't really blame the hotel for poor taxi services in the city. I figured out how to work the public transit system and rode back for $2. -There isn't much to do or see in the immediate area. You'll need a car, taxi, or ferry to get to most points of interest. Overall, the place was acceptable. Some loud noises occasionally from guests. Room was cleaned every day. My door faced a parking lot, which was annoying at times. It was good for a budget trip. I saw complaints of humidity - yes, the entire state of LA (including this hotel) is humid. We arrived early room wasn't ready yet. Needed to get in touch with our family but don't have a cell phone, so Cindy at the front desk was nice enough to let us use her's Thank you Cindy! The bed was comfortable but being a king it made the room a little cramped with two night stands and a desk in the room too. There was plenty of drawer space, lighting and hangers and the fridge worked well while we never used the coffee maker it was there with supplies. The TV was a flat screen but the sleep button on the remote didn't work. The shower floor could be slippery and I only remember seeing a mat like towel the first day wo were sure to keed a towel on the floor. Housekeeping was helpful but could have used more than one of the larger towels each day. Breakfast was cereal, your standard danish, scrambled eggs, sausage patty, biscuits, & juices & included in the price so really not a bad deal but I would have enjoyed some yogurt & fruits as an option. We did sit by the pool one afternoon but it was too hot outside and the water temp was not very refereshing, it also looked to be turning a little green. "As good as it gets?"
This was our first trip to new Orleans. When we arrived the lobby area was nice but ours rooms were very cheap looking. We had 2 adjoing rooms and its was clear that the maid had done a minimal job. One room had no bath towels and one had no shower curtain. The humidity was so high in the room that condensation had formed on the bathroom ceiling and […] was dripping. The Kleenex box was empty, not a big deal but theses little things indicated a lack of overall concern. We had to keep the thermostat on 65 to keep the humidity in our room down and even still everything felt damp. The property itself is obviously old and some one has down a quick fix me up. With that being said after seeing the rest of the area I now feel like this is the average hotel you can expect unless you want to stay at a much more expensive hotel and they are all in areas that when we were walking around we found to be rather disgusting (feces on the sidewalk was a common occurrence). Very nice staff!! Rooms leave something to be desired. For starters cheap hotels do not need to be old and sad looking. This hotel has great beds but the bed headboards are old and ugly. "Great for an inexpensive weekend get away!"
The room was clean although we had no choice but to book a smoking room. There was a slight musty smell but not as bad as I expected. The bed was very comfortable with four pillows. I would recommend booking a room that did not face pool if you feel like sleeping in. The staff was very friendly. I twice had to call the front desk (once for extra towels […] and once for a dead coffee maker) and both times they were prompt and friendly. This hotel is not the "Ritz", but if you want an inexpensive alternative to (and free parking) the over priced downtown hotels, this is one I would recommend. Also, the hotel offers a free shuttle to the Gretna ferry that drops you right at the aquarium on the river front.
