"Close to everything I needed"
Room was a bit warm for my tastes, but the weather outside was unseasonably warm. I understand there are logistics behind switching the heat off for short periods of time. It was only a little warm. Otherwise, excellent stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic Gem of a Building"
This hotel was very well kept up for being a historic building. It was very clean. Bed super comfy. The wifi was horrible and I was only on the 3rd floor. The heat had not been turned on yet in the building and it was the 3rd week of October. The staff could not be nicer or more helpful. They moved me to what would be a warmer room and brought me an […] extra blanket which helped. I there had been heat, the comfort would have been a 3. The neighborhood has some pretty historic buildings around but I didn't feel really safe walking around by myself. The sidewalks were poorly maintained as well. A big far from inner harbor if you want to just walk and be there but a cab is easily accessible. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean room and good location, bad breakfast"
Our room was very clean and they had a safety vault to keep our electronic devices in. It is an old building though and our toilet was even a little cracked, but other than that everything else was clean and you could rest at peace in the room. What I found very disappointing was the breakfast, they had eggs, gravy, biscuits, cereal, bacon, fruits, […] coffee, hot chocolate, yogurt, bagels and cream cheese. The bagels were very hard and the fruits were old, the eggs and bacon was good though. Also, the lobby, especially the carpet, is not as clean as the rooms. To sum it up, its not bad for the price, but they could make a few simple improvements. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyable stay and good value"
Overall a lovely hotel. The complimentary breakfast was delicious, the beds comfortable and the hotel exceptionally clean. The mount vernon district felt safe and was very attractive. The warm breakfast was good and had variety. The staff was courteous. Our room was very spacious, a little outdated, but nice none the less. The decor of the hotel needs a little updating. We did not have enough towels and rags for the bathroom. When we requested it, we were told that they were in the laundry now and we were the third in line. After […] 30 mins we got the towels, but no rags. When I called the front desk again, I was told that they had no more towels. I asked for 2 hand yields instead, but was told they only had 1 more. "accommodating and personable staff"
After looking at the reviews of Mt. Vernon hotel compared with others in the same price range I chose Mt. Vernon because the chief complaint I saw was of double-booking of rooms. I actually ran into this exact problem when a tour bus unexpectedly registered a bunch of rooms and the room that I reserved ended up getting snapped-up. This ended up working […] to my advantage because I was offered a beautiful loft room for the same price as the double-bed room I had reserved. Throughout this whole process the staff was very friendly and competent and I couldn't have been happier with the results of this happy mistake. Everyone I stayed with had a great time exploring Baltimore from this convenient location and I would definitely stay here again. This hotel has great value for the money. "Fix the Elevator!"
We were in the hotel on what is probably the busiest or one of their busiest weekends of the year. They didn't seem very prepared and that placed a burden on their employees. They breakfast line was very long, as they weren't prepared with enough food. They had one elevator out of service the whole time that we were there. They couldn't bring anyone […] in to take care of the problem? Also, the air conditioner was leaking water all over the carpet in front of it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

It was a lovely stay. The weather was in the high 80's very humid, after walking around downtown all day it was a welcome retreat to walk into the room and have it very cool, clean and comfortable. The morning breakfast was very filling and enjoyable. No complaints at all for this property. I would recommend using the parking garage across the street […] only to keep the cost down. Overall the hotel was fine. The hotel staff was extremely friendly. The breakfast was great for free. Parking was easy. My only complaint would be that the windows don't open in the rooms. It wasn't the cleanest room, but not bad. For the price it was worth it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel for the money"
While the building is old, the amenities and the room were fine. This is not a resort hotel with a pool and a valet. It is a clean, well maintained hotel with a friendly, helpful staff. It is closer to the light rail station than the baggage claim at the airport. The free transport to the Inner Harbor and other neighborhoods is within two blocks. "Great little spot in B'more"
The price was right and we were only a few miles from the venue we wanted to go to and the inner harbor area. Parking at the lot across the street was only $4 all day sat-sun! "Good location, comfortable room, close to stuff"
It was a very comfortable hotel at a great price and in a wonderful location! The good stuff: The staff gave helpful information and recommendations when we asked. The hotel seemed secure and had a security guard at night. The room had comfortable beds and was pretty quiet. The shower was good. The hotel had a lot of character. The location was wonderful--the […] neighborhood was really fun, charming and felt safe at all hours of the night. We loved walking to tons of great bars/pubs, and just walking to admire the architecture. It was no problem to walk to the Inner Harbor, and even on to Fells Point (but we enjoy walking). Park your car at the garage across the street from the front door--it was only $8 for Friday-Sunday (hotel charges $15 for thier garage). The not so great stuff: While the breakfast was very good, it was very slow and they were always out of coffee and hot water. They simply did not have enough on hand and seemed short-staffed in that department. The rooms were a bit worn and could have been cleaner. Just a weird thing for me, but the toilet seats did not have a cover, and I did not like that. I also had to use a hair clip to close the curtains completely to keep light from shining in. Finally, it was really hot, dry air all the time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Smelly and terrible"
My hotel room was hot and smelled like old must when I walked in. The whole 3rd floor smelled like antiseptic or a hospital wing. The radiator/air conditioner was the original unit, probably from the 1950s and was disgusting/dirty. The shape of the room was really inconvenient -- a big horse shoe with beds on one side, a TV/dresser that faced a wall, […] and the bathroom on the other. This website advertised 2 queen beds but they were actually 2 double beds. It took us about 20 minutes to figure out where to park, eventually just parking in a lot across the street despite the advertised "on premises self-park" option. (At least was only $8 for Saturday + Sunday parking.) At the free breakfast the next day, they ran out of food while a line formed that went out the door. The staff cleaned most of the food up/removed milk for coffee/etc at 10 am despite no one being done eating as we had to wait in line 20+ minutes for more eggs/sausage/bacon to be cooked. Would never ever stay here again. Terrible. The only good thing was the location, and there are certainly enough other hotels to stay at in this area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Seemed like a bargain until I tried to sleep"
This is a clean and well maintained hotel. Location is good as well. It's a pretty easy (15 minute) walk to Camden Yards and the waterfront. The room was basically spotless as well. However the mattress I slept on was really hard, as were the small pillows that came with it. "Mount Vernon Hotel – Location Ideal"
Mount Vernon Hotel is located in the historic Mt. Vernon district of Baltimore 1 block from the Enoch Pratt Library, the 1st Cathedral of the US and the Walters Art Musuem. Room rates were very good and included a free hot or cold, your choice, breakfast with options such as scrambled eggs, grits, bacon, french toast plus cereal, fruit, toast your own […] english muffins, bagels, bread, yogurt, milk, coffee, tea and juice. This is a cafeteria style breakfast not a cook to order meal. Parking was convenient with a hotel lot, which was full during my stay, but also a cheaper deck directly across the street and ample free and meter parking on the weekend. Ample free and fee public transportation was convenient to the hotel as were high quality restaurants and bars. The room was very spacious as city rooms go with two comfortable queen beds. The bathroom was on the small side and seemed a bit dated. Air conditioning worked almost too well. Pay-per-view movies are really the only TV option and the TV is a bit on the small side. I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It's all about expectations"
As you may have read, people have had a wide range of experiences in this hotel. This hotel was renovated substantially in 2008 so I would take anything prior to that with a grain of salt. We stayed there first in 2002 or 2003 and then again this past weekend in 2012. Indeed, there was considerable upgrading of the lobby and rooms. (We have lived in […] the city since 2007 and we wanted to be pretend tourists this past weekend for our anniversary.) We stayed on the 2nd floor in a non-loft room. I have a sneaking suspicion that the rooms with the lofts are more exciting because you would get the benefit of the awesome windows that this building has to offer. We were in a king size bed, which I love, so that was good. We had too big pillows for the bed and an additional one was included in the TV cabinet. (No, not an LCD as many have indicated. And no premium cable channels. Oh well!) We slept well and it was very quiet. I'm a pillow person so of course I would have liked more. The room was clean but, as many have stated, the features seem to need to be updated yet again. It's kind of weird really. They have the amenities of a Days Inn (average pile towels, your typical crappy hairdryer that works but it's so not exactly what you want, and plastic shower/tub instead of ceramic tile) but the POSSIBILITY of great ambiance with the tall ceilings (in the hallway only apparently) and the beautiful windows. So for me this place was all about expectations. Is the room clean? Absolutely. Do you get a good night's sleep? Yes. But is it as luxurious and quaint as it could be? Hell no. Many people have commented on the breakfast as being second rate. That's an interesting point. While they offer more than your typical Days Inn sort of thing (because they have hot food), some of the food is not awesome. Someone mentioned powdered eggs and I thought, how can a hotel that is a training hotel serve people powdered eggs? But, lo and behold, they were powdered. Is this luxurious? Nope. "Can't beat it for the price."
Instead of a full review, I will put in how my experience related to the other reviews. Lots said their room was freezing, our stay was the opposite, we turned off the heat entirely because it was slightly too warm. The pillows are flat, and the beds are hard...but it wasn't a big deal, and the hotel staff very happily provided us with additional […] blankets and pillows. Parking across the street is MUCH cheaper, weekend rate is 4$ (i think 7$ on weekdays), its called w franklin street garage, look it up for the hours as it does lock up overnight. You can leave your vehicle there the entirety of your stay and then pay the total when you leave. We did not find the surrounding area seedy in the least, in fact after reading all these reviews we were astounded by how nice some of it was. There is a beautiful monument and church a block away that you have to take the time to go see! We saw absolutely no sketchy characters about, and we were walking around at all hours of the day (even past midnight). The location is PERFECT for the price in summer, but in the winter the walks are just a bit on the long side if you don't have the fortitude for the cold...but it's not TOO bad. Yes, the room was extremely basic, but it had everything you need and it had NOTHING to complain about for a room to just call home base for your trip. I would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anybody! I honestly feel people get too caught up in the amenities a hotel offers when they don't even use them (or only use them because hey they're there)...This place was clean, the room was serviced to our satisfaction, everything worked, the staff was remarkably friendly, and the price was amazing. One of my favorite hotel experiences to date! Bonus Tip: If you want a pizza delivered to the room, I definitely recommend looking up oriole pizza! They are open late, and delivered exceptionally fast. The price was right and the pizza (and a calzone) were UNBELIEVABLY good. The treasure trove pizza was o Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

On the positive side the staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel does have an old school quaintness. But there were issues. Heat control in room didn't work, and it was cold...I had to wear extra layers to bed. Beds are *very* hard, not firm, hard. Insufficient pillows which were flat and just bad. Room was clean but could be cleaner. Old TV. […] No backup toilet paper. Breakfast ends at 9 which is too early. Entire place needs some updating. Was in town for some baseball and wanted to be close enough to be able to enjoy the aftergame festivities. The walk to Camden yards was nice and the public transportation was right around the corner. Was surprised to find a $4 dollar charge on my credit card when I got home. The explanation? 2 bottles of water that were NOT complimentary in the room. […] I thought that was a little ridiculous. Other than that, the person checking us in was exceptionally helpful with our specific needs (i.e. parking). She was not forcing hotel parking on us. Instead she suggested that the parking across the street might actually be cheaper. Although there was a strange odor in the hallway of our floor, they were making efforts to get rid of it. I stayed here one night, and everything was fine. I wasn't wowed or anything, but the room was clean, the front desk staff was helpful, and the location was perfect for what I needed. I did not give this place a 5 rating because: -There was a very strange -and very strong- odor in the hallway of the floor I was on. It smelled like someone poured an […] entire bottle of strangely scented cleaner in the hallway or something. -The room was kind of small, and the pillows were really, really flat. -Not really impressed by the hookers hanging out front.
