Hallways and room smelled. Had to wait about 15 minutes to check in. There was only one desk person present. Breakfast was ok. There was a small boy running around the dining area. "Rude check in staff"
I went to the Clarion for a wedding and got in from an overnight fight and train trip from LA/NY. When I got to the hotel the person checking me in sold me there would be no rooms avail until 2:30 or 3 and I had to be at a wedding that started at 3PM. Another couple was checking in at the same time and they we're also going to the same wedding. The […] check in person could not find their reservation so they went across the street to the Red Roof Inn. Later on they told me they were happy there. This person checking me in put me in a room with the wrong name and called me by the wrong name even with my ID in front of them. Finally I got a key card and went to the room only to find the maid still v=finishing it, even though there were two rooms already ready next door the check in person gave me this room that was not and I had to wait another 25 minutes for the maid to finish. "Not what I expected at all!"
I was in New London for a graduation at Connecticut College earlier this month. The hotel location was excellent, the staff was courteous, and the bed slept well. The TV in our room was a Phillips 20” from the 90s; every channel was fuzzy and barely viewable. I had to call the front desk for a remote, after two tries; I finally received a working remote. […] The toilet bowl size was something out of Alice in Wonderland, meaning that it was TINY in size and length! At 6’2” it was challenging to use. Our hallway smelled like smoke and we could hear everything in the hallway due to the paper thin like walls. The Wi-Fi was unreachable in our room so I had to go to the lobby for a connection. "A bit disappointed"
We were disappointed we were unable to get a room at the local casino and opted to get a room at the Clarion because of the proximity to the casino we were visiting. The room was average and the condition of the hotel was a bit tired and dated. We were told there would be a breakfast buffet in the morning. When we wen to the breakfast area at about […] 7:30am we were hugely disappointed. The coffee maker was sitting in a pan of old water and there was very little coffee left in the pot. My husband didn't get a cup of coffee -- mine was the last. There were no service people in sight and there was no hot breakfast in the pans and quite a few people just lounging around on chairs and in front of the food taking whatever was left on the table. "Don't fall for the 3 star rating !!!"
I picked this hotel as a stop over on our trip due to its closeness to Mohegan Sun and the indoor pool and hot tube. We left early in order to enjoy the pool and hot tube only to get there and find out that its been closed for over a month! The staff offered us free shuttle service to and from Mohegan Sun, a $40 value which I excepted. Expedia gave […] me a coupon for future use also. The staff was fair in their treatment of me. Expedia gives 3 stars to this hotel which for $79 I thought was a great deal only to find out that I've stayed in 1 star motels as comparable to this one. The room was clean and comfortable but there was numerous things wrong with it. One problem was that you couldn't shut the shades to block out the parking lot lights. The heat was off when we entered the room so we were cold as we prepared to leave then when we returned 4 hours later the room had to be 90 degrees even though we had the thermistat set on 70. Good luck finding the entrance to the hotel in one shot !! You have to enter from Bayonet st even though its address is N. Frontage which is a major highway!! WE MADE RESERVATIONS FOR A PAID SHUTTLE AT CHECK-IN THAT DEPARTED EARLY WITHOUT US. THE FRONT DESK LADY THEN LIED WHEN ASKED DIRECTLY IF IT HAD LEFT CAUSING US TO STAND IN THE LOBBY FOR 45MINS. "Won't return here"
Overall, I wouldn't stay there again regardless off the price. The hallways were freezing cold, the cleanliness of the whole hotel was poor. My room smelled like vomit. The staff greeting me at the desk answered a phonecall and stayed on the phone the whole time while checking me in. She went on and on about how busy her day had been. The worst part […] was the shuttle service! We signed up on a list to get the shuttle to and from the casino. The ride there was fine, trying to get back was awful. They didnt keep track of who was supposed to be on the shuttles and at what time, there even ended up being a fight because of the shuttle service and the lack of organization. On a busy weekend with a wine fest at the casino there should be more than one shuttle and if you sign up for that time frame, you should be on that bus regardless! I will say one positive thing about this hotel and that is the restaurant "Wings and Pies". The service and the wings were both great. If I was that restaurant I would get out of that hotel! "Hotel okay..service stunk and bring your own towel"
I have never had such lousy service in a Clarion hotel before! I can deal with the building being older and the beds less than firm but the situation with the towels was dreadful! When we arrived our room for 4 people had 2 towels and we asked for more and were given 2. We were told to speak with housekeeping in the morning. I did telling them to LEAVE […] the towels and get us one or two more...they took the towels and left 2 large and 1 small....again for 4 people. I was FURIOUS. When I tried to explain to the desk clerk, who is she called me 'my lady' one more time, I was going to lose it, she cut me off telling me that it was not her issue but IT WAS since SHE was the one who told us to talk to housekeeping in the morning. She was so focused on yelling at me that she screwed up the room number and tried to blame it on me...after my husband went down a few minutes later to check on the towels. The hotel itself was okay...the service stunk! The next day, I had a supervisor from housekeeping tell me that 'they were full and guests wanted too many towels'...I told him to leave the ones hanging and give me one or two more and I'd be happy. "Extremely disappointed"
Our room was a "non~smoking room" yet it smelled of old cigarette smell. (They say ex smokers are the worst ) When I went to the window there were tiny flies gathered at the window. We had to keep sheer curtain closed so they would stay put. When maid service came they took the dirty towels piled in corner but left dirty towels hanging on rack then […] didn't replace them. They "made the bed" and re~arranged pillows (this hotel does not change sheets unless requested but they don't tell you this. I found it on a card in drawer). The pillows they rearranged on the bed had stained pillow cases on them. When I went to ask for more towels they gave me " a set". I asked that 2 sets be brought up but she handed me a set and said she would find someone to bring another. They brought another set but no bathmat. They left plastic cups that were used on table-I tried to put everything in trash so it would be replaced but forgot the cups. They didn't even give me a new liner for the ice bucket. There was nasty gooey "stuff" on the handrail going up to our floor so we couldn't use the handrail. Halls were very dirty. We were just very bummed seeing we traveled 4 hours to get there and didn't have time to book elsewhere. We have stayed at Clarion in NYC so we assumed it would be nice like that. Besides it was "rated" with 4 stars. I would NOT consider this a 4 star hotel! The staff wasn't very friendly either. They seemed very put out to help me with the towels. "Scared to leave our room..."
We obtained this hotel room as an affordable alternative to getting a room at the casino. When we arrived back at the hotel after an evening out we found several parties going on. Exit doors were propped open and strangers were free to mill in and out. The desk clerk was notified by myself, but he did not address the situation. In addition, at one point […] I had to retrieve something out of my car and was subjected to cat-calls and various other "advances" by the several party goers that were milling though-out the hallway near our room. "Too expensive for what you get"
The first thing I noticed was that the hallway and then the room had a funny odor. I'm not quite sure what it was. Thought it would go away when we turned on the a/c but it didn't. I want my money back. Hotel is impossible to find. They just changed from Holiday Inn to Langitude and now they are changing to Clarion hotels so there are no sign with hotel name. You are getting into dirty building with no marking. Hotel is nicely hidden in the back behind Ouback Steakhouse. In the front outside of the building there were rolls or […] old dirty carpet. If they were to clean out the hotel they should keep it in the back out of sight. Hotel Room was clean but it was a quality of cheap motel. Definately not the place for the price we paid. "Hotel Latitude 41 in New London, CT."
The website needs to update the correct address, when you use gps, you need to punch in 269 Bayonet St. which we learned after trying to find the hotel for a half hour. Got very frustrating. Even thou the hotel is totally under construction, they need to put up temp. signs so people from out of state don't get so lost. The room itself was beautiful, […] and the front desk guy was good. The only other thing we felt the hotel needed was more of a secure building. We got back to the hotel very late and walked right in thru front doors and upstairs to rooms. "Really odd place..."
It seems that the management of this hotel is changing and that we arrived in the midst of a redesign. There were no signs for this hotel anywhere - including on the buiding itself and the driveway was blocked by enormous rolls of carpet. Seriously, no joke. The bathroom was not clean (in fact, quite gross) and the room had a lingering smell of cigarette […] smoke, even though I got a non-smoking room.
