"lazy river access is NOT free!"
From the moment you walk in the hotel, you realize, they are going to try to sell you a timeshare even though we booked our stay as a regular hotel. After check in you are whisked to another counter to cash in some "hotel dollars" and the sales pitch begins. Then they start to tell you that access to the lazy river is not free unless you take a timeshare […] seminar. The fee for a tube rental at the lazy river is $9 per person otherwise, which is ridiculous for a family of five. Check out time is 10am--too early for someone on vacation. Will never stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poorly Run and may be in financial trouble"
On the surface Orange Lake resort looks great. We stayed in the Hotel part or as they called it Villa's. Make no mistake it's a Hotel room. During check in staff you supposedly receive a $20 voucher to use at any of the resteraunts but then quickly get scooped up and they try to upsell you to other packages but only if you go on a a 90 minute tour […] of their facility assumadly to sell you a time share. The Hotel is "H" Shaped and only has one elevator on the right side so if you are upstairs and all the way to the left get ready to go for a nice walk. After the first day of being out in the parks in 90-100 degree weather we return back to our Hotel Room to find house keeping had not been in. When calling the front desk they say "House keeping does not come every day". This would have been nice to know when I checked in. We needed more towels and that took them 2 hours to bring to us. We were also told we could wash our towels in the laundary room. I'm sorry I am on vacation and don't feel like gaurding the washing machine as I wash towels that you should be providing me. The room had a kitchenette in it so we made our own breakfast, but what to do with the garbabge since house keeping does not come every day. We were told to leave garbage outside your door. This explains why the carpets in the hall were so nasty. To the Orange Lake management, work on making your guests more at home and want to come back then they might invest in the time share. "Things they don't tell you."
The property was very pretty and very close to numerous restaurants and all of the Disney parks. However, here are the things that they do not tell you. You will have to wash the towels in your room every day, but you will only get detergent for 2 days. Actually, if we had not called and gotten a few extra, we would not have had enough for one day. […] There were only 4 of us staying in the room, but it was suppose to be able to accomodate up to 5-7 people. Also, they do not include the resort fee in the rate. They will charge you extra when you check in. Yes, the pools are really nice, but if you plan on using the lazy river, that is extra also. The on site restaurants are way over priced and the food is sub par. The character breakfast....well, there are characters, but their costumes are nasty. Based on my experience staying at other properties in the area, do not stay here. You will be much happier staying somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unhelpful, disappointing, damp and musty"
Hotel was ok; pictures on web made it look and sound much newer and fresher than it actually was. Room was very damp, either due to leaking fridge or recent carpet cleaning, but should not have been rented in the condition it was. Most disappointing was hotel staffs refusal to allow a late checkout; room wasn't available until 4PM and checkout is 10:00AM, […] so not a good place unless you really are just looking to sleep and get on over to Disney. First the check in was not explained to us when I reserved the resort and we were there around 11am and had to sit till after 3pm to get into a room, and no one had told us about storing our bags so we were dragging them around all day. Then three days into our stay our room keys were deactivated as like we checked out, when we didnt...they had reserved […] our whole stay for three nights then re-entered us in the same room for another 4, that was very aggrivating. Then there are no free shuttles to and from Orlando when they know most people come there for that, so it was another cost...then you are charged for the lazy river and the other slide seperately.....we wont be going back to this resort for sure..... "Hard to find"
First, this hotel was really hard to find.. nice rooom, but the floors were dirty and the room and hallway areas had a strange odor. The interior hallways reminded me of a extended stay hotel, dirty, dingy with soiled towels scattered about. Although, check-out was at 10:00 AM -- I was ready to leave sooner. "Nice Pictures not what we expected."
Pictures on the website were wonderful - we found out after booking it was a timeshare hotel/location. We checked in and told the staff we were not interested and no further questions asked. Cons: - you have to wash your own towels! (They do provide detergent and washer/dryer but I'm on vacation!) if you call for towels they will quickly remind you […] that you are supposed to wash your own! - we were in a "dungeon" type hallway - room smelled like mildew - baseboards looked as if the room had been flooded - the fridge wasn't very cold - the "waterpark" was a few slides (which you had to pay to slide down) and a lazy river - you could hear what was happening in the surrounding rooms Pros: - pretty land/golf courses - close enough to Disney parks I felt like since we were not timeshare owners and we weren't as important and were "shoved" in a remote part of the hotel since we had already booked the room - just really disappointed. "Very disappointing, timeshare resort not a hotel."
This was my first visit to this hotel. Turns out this is a timeshare resort. So, as soon as I checked in, some sales guys tried to rope me in on a 90 minute presentation, which I declined. They were very persistent though, calling again next morning to attend the information session, that I declined again. Lived in the East village. The whole area had […] a very strong fertilizer or manure smell that also made using the balconies impossible. The hotel staff said this was because of proximity to Animal Kingdom. The pool was excellent. Not heated though. Some hotel amenities that you take for granted have an extra charge. Example, extra charge for house-cleaning if you request one. The hotel room was spacious. The king bedroom AC vent was blocked and this room was hot, while the second bedroom AC vent was open stiff and that room was super cold. Had to sleep with bedroom doors open. While checking out, the elevator went out of order and had to carry luggage down a few floors. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"nice resort, but little else"
I was there 7 nights and the room did not get serviced. When I asked about the service schedule, I was told I would have the room serviced once if I was there a week. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Additionally, we were told several things by the staff that just weren't true, such as discounted tickets at Disney, some AAA discounts, etc. You will […] also be charged an additional $8/day for a "resort charge", and many of the ammenities cost additional money. The rooms were falling apart and in much need of a serious renovation. There was no pool near our unit and we had to drive 5 minutes away to get to one, which was a big letdown. EVERYTHING was extra. The fitness room, which contained beat up and run down equipment didn't even have a water cooler, but the water vending machine was there for $2.65 per […] bottle. It was a lesson in management greed and a disgrace. Another timeshare sales pitch scam in exchange for discounted tickets. They pitch a 90 minute presentation, yet at 2 1/2 hrs the pitch continues and you lose your first day of vacation. Our vacations are few and to waste 1 day out of 6 to save a couple of hundred dollars was a big mistake. I would never go back here nor recommend it to anyone. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Just an ok place to stay. Has a lot of amenities, but they are not top notch.Genuine Expedia guest review
After getting up early for our flight, and getting the car rented we were ready to just go check in quickly and rest. We were traveling with a soon to be 2 year old and a 5 year old and I am still recovering from breast cancer and chemo. Even after telling the time share sales person that, HE still kept talking. RUDE! The pools were not close by and […] you either have to drive yourself or be shuttled there. The pools are very nice though for little ones just learning to swim. Housekeeping and grounds keeping staff were very polite. ALSO Please be aware this is a cash free resort. The 2 bedroom 2 bath villa was very nice and allowed the 5 of us to feel at home. Brought my family for a week. This place is a old school timeshare community. Pressure when we checked in for a presentation and to buy a timeshare with them. NOT A HOTEL. No housekeeping, the unit smelled, damp, just run down.Genuine Expedia guest review
There were strange crows all over the East Villafe property and when we went jogging, the property smelled like death. We dont golf, so the property was much less useful to us than most. I declined the on-property walk-thru at check in, but that didn't prevent them from calling us at 8:30am the next morning to ask again (New Year's Eve). The next two […] nights we left the phone off the hook, so I wouldn't know if they'd continue the early calls. There was early morning construction also on the day we checked out - loud facility workers yelling out commands to eachother. All in all, not the place for sleeping in, but otherwise okay as far as accommodations. Be wary of the 10am check-out time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Mediocre At Best"
Our hotel room was very nice and clean and the 1 bedroom villa came with a nice kitchen. The room was a little out of date but not bad at all. The pool is great but they say it is heated to 84 degrees and it did not feel heated. Make sure that you stay at River Island. There are a lot of places that are far away from pools and dining. There were not […] as many dining options as were claimed and the service/quality of the food were far from good. They try hard to sell you immediately on their timeshare presentation offering us a gift certificate that they told us would be good for golf or mini-golf and when we try to use it for that we were told that we would have to purchase another package to use the gift certificate that we had. They try to nickel and dime you on expenses the entire time you are here. There is no way that I would buy a timeshare here. If you are planning on staying here be prepared to pay a lot after you check-in (Resort Fee, Tube Fee, Mini-Golf, Rock Climbing, etc...). The overall experience has been so-so. Each morning around 545 am the landscapers began working right outside the window using leaf blowers, mowers, chain saws, etc making it impossible to sleep in on vacation. We called to complain but they said this is a golf community and we must do upkeep on the course daily. They claimed they would speak with the landscapers about not working so closely […] to the building that early in the morning, but nothing changed. Also, beware of the sales presentation. "Not that good, not staying there again"
Positives: Close to Disney theme parks. Our room had all utensils, a refrigerator, dish washer and an electric stove. Swimming pools and lazy river on the property. Negatives: We stayed in a standard room and both queen size beds had badly sunken mattresses which caused back pain. Our room had an old stained carpet. Some of the towels that we had in […] the room were dirty. I requested to replace them. They gave us a new set of towels right away but found two of the new ones with brown color stains on them. Universal Studios 30 mins away. Despite paying a daily maint fee of $7.95 they don't clean up the room or pickup trash from your room unless you are staying for min 10 nights. Front desk reception that checked us in was nice but a couple of other check-in receptionists that i talked to afterwards for various things were kind of rude. Bottom line: I am not going back there. "Not too great, but not terrible either"
The hotel is in a great location, not very far from the theme parks, with a nice artificial beach right next to it, and a very beautiful golf course in the resort. The room we stayed in, had all utensils that I would need to make a quick meal, and was neat and tidy. I guess, that's where the positives ended for me. The mattress was very old, and hence […] awful at best (The springs would go very deep). There were no windows in the suite that we had, although it was a tidy suite. But, the worst among all, was the smell. The air in the room, just did not feel clean and fresh. It felt stale and unclean, no matter, how low you set the thermostat to (to force the A/C to run and recirculate/refresh the air). I initially felt that it was probably due to the room being vacant for a long time, and tried to run the A/C through for a good part of the day. But everytime you go out and get back into the room, the stale air hits you hard. The other gripe that I have is that, everything else, is something that you need to pay for - there are no complimentary breakfasts (which I admit, I have been spoiled by the Hampton Inns and Marriot chains), and you are expected to pay even to use the business center, if you want to quickly browse the internet and print your boarding pass if need be. It's a good place to go, if you, keep your expectations low. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I was delighted to take my daughter on our first official vacation together. we had a long travel day and i was excited to get to the hotel only to have a very rude woman check us in. We arrived late in the evening and my daughter was fast asleep in my arms. the desk clerk shot the breeze casually with another guest while I stood and waited and waited […] to check in. when we were finally acknowledged she told me it would be better for check in if i had someone in my car watch my daughter. I told her we were travelling alone and that was not possible. Then she asked me how many would be staying in the room. duh, TWO. I asked if there was anyone available to help me with our bags and was told to go sit outside and someone could come in 15 to 20 minutes if I thought i needed help. not a warm reception and a bitter person should not be working with the public at all. Our room was a ground floor with a view of the loading dock and a/c units for the building. I left the curtain closed for our entire stay to not put a damper on the holiday we planned and looked forward to for so long. The concierge I dealt with seemed to have better things to do and was not knowledgeable and was rushed. I also had a miserable experience at the riverside restaurant. Again we were rushed and brushed off. The fish I ordered was leathery and the rice inedible because of too much salt. HATE ITGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Biggest problem: it is not announced in the hotel or Expedia websites that it is not included in the daily rates the housecleaning of the rooms. They just informed us after one day (after full day in Disney park) that it was not done in the hotel and we should use the laundry in the corridor. It is easy to imagine how was the room after 7 days, with […] 2 small kids... We felt we were not served accordingly, since I could get this service and the same enterteinment in other hotel for similar price. Also, insisting calls from customer service (starting 8am) to ask about their quality on service. Calls just stopped on the 4th day after I lost my temper while kids were still sleeping. The staff is not so gentle (unless you show some interest in buying some unit in the resort). The single positive point is the location, close to Disney parks. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Rude Hotel Staff, Pushy TimeShare Reps, Worn Beds"
I had to pay any extra $51/day to have hotel staff come in and clean my room and provide me clean towels. They told me that I needed to go buy detergent and wash my towels in the laundry room in I wanted clean towels. For the amount of money I paid and the visits to other hotels I would think they cleaned and provided towels to everyone. The couch in […] the room was old and falling apart, smelled funny. Carpet was very old and matted to the floor. Couch pillows had holes in them and stunk. Bed was very old and worn out, horrible back pain after sleeping on that thing for a week. The hotel staff at the front desk were very rude, like I didn't deserve their time. Hotel has a beach area, but you can't swim in the water. TimeShare presentation was ok, but when I announced that I wasn't ready to purchase timeshare estate they got really pushy and tried to make me defend myself as to why I didn't want timeshare if i was vacationing. After I said no several times, someone else would come out and try to present a lower offer to me. 90 Minute presentation lasted 2 hours, wasted the time I could have spent on the beach. "Looks great on the surface, but will never return!"
The positives: the grounds are lovely, the room was spacious, and the hotel itself is very clean. The many negatives: EVERYTHING costs money from the shuttles to the airport and parks to the lazy river. The food at all of the restaurants is sub-par. We arrived a little early and gave them our phone number to call us when the room was ready, not only […] did they not call but we sat around for two hours before we went to go check, apparently the room had been ready for quite a bit of time. The room was big, but the bedroom was right when you walked in the door, so we heard all of the neighbors as they entered and left their rooms as well as the talkative maids as we tried to sleep in. We received no maid service the entirety of our stay, I guess you have to request it which is ridiculous for a hotel, nothing to hang on the door to indicate we would like service. Two days in a row we asked for more coffee and both days it took over six hours for them to bring it to us, they blamed it on the rain ... The worst was on the day that we were trying to sleep in, someone called the room at 8:30 AM and asked if they could send someone to the room so we could fill out a quality survey ... we spoke to the management about how this upset us, they assured they wouldn't call back, but around 11 AM the same lady called back. First, let me say I don't usually write reviews, positive or negative. After this stay I felt like I had to. We stayed for 5 nights with a 3 y/o. Took a couple of reminders to get a child crib delivered to our room, but that’s nothing serious in my books. CONS: - After a couple of days we realized no one cleaned our room/took out trash. Long story short […] - they don’t clean your room unless you stay for 2 weeks. - Trash in the room is your problem. - Fresh towels? Forget it. They recommended we did laundry ourselves (laundry room was a few doors down). - Pushy sales people wanting you to take a tour for $70 credit.. they gave us a $20 coupon upon check in - worthless, never used it All in all, I felt like the service/quality was worse than what we could have gotten at a 2 star hotel. We’re not picky or anything but doing laundry and taking out trash –that’s exactly why we left our house for a week long trip to Florida. PROS: The room itself was large. Outside of your room you will find a huge resort with several pools. They had a live band one night, free snacks. Lots of entertainment. Overall, I will never ever go back to Orange Lakes, lots of other options around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Holiday Inn sign difficult to see from main road if not previously aware that it exists. The room was clean. We realized that is not a hotel, is an apartment rental (security deposit was taken from us at check-in), and mostly intersted in time-consumming time-sharing promotions. Garbage containers outside for collection are insuficient, and no recycling […] bins. There was no indication that the apartment assigned to us would be on a walk-up second floor, and up we went, the old, the todler, the suitcases. Directions to our room were given wrong at the registration desk. Generally, the room and amenities were very nice. However, beginning at check-in, there was consistent pressure to "sign up" for a seminar (to presumably discuss time share units within the facility). When my travel companions indicated that it was late and one was running a half-marathon the next day, the representative continued to pressure us to […] sign-up for a seminar. After we all repeatedly expressed disinterest, I received a telephone call the following day from a different representative again pressuring me to sign-up for the above referenced seminar. When I again indicated that I had a limited amount of time in Florida, the representative became increasingly aggressive and quite frankly, rude. As a consequence, I stopped picking up the phone in the room. (Over the next three days, I received several messages from the hotel though I did not listen to their content). On a separate issue, throughout my stay, bags of garbage consistently littered the hallway. In addition, when we first arrived, my travel companions (who had a separate room) were welcomed to a room that had not been cleaned (and may have still been occupied by another guest as there were clothes, food, and other personal items in the room). The hotel apologized by providing them with a pass for putt-putt golf? (Of course, they also provided them with a different room). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel itself was nice but did not care for the staff or housekeeping issues. There were 3 of us and we only had 4 towels to use during our stay. When I requested more towels the staff wanted to charge us additional $$ and then said I could use the laundry facilities if I was so inclined. No where to eat when we returned from the Walt Disney World Park […] after 10:00 p.m. even though hotel operator indicated there was a restaurant/bar on the premises that was open. Hotel staff more interested in selling time share. Would not stay again and did not appreciate the "resort fee" they charged on top of the prepaid hotel stay!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Dirty and poor service"
Room was dirty upon check in. Carpet was stained, towels in bathroom dirty, blood stain on floor, deodorant cover on floor. One remote broken, one remote missing. Stove top with two electric burners only had the small one working. Small part broken off from presumably the floor lamp was on the floor. A call to the front desk regarding issues were not […] helpful. We got a replacement remote within two hours but that was it. The dirty mess was an issue for us due to small children who we didn't feel comfortable putting on the floor. Maintenance came the following morning but we had to ask him to return as we were getting showered and dressed. Not sure if he ever returned as the floor was still dirty. The timeshare sales pitch was high pressure with no less than 4 different people trying to convince us what an awesome deal we were getting. The tour guy had us fill out a complaint form but still nothing had been resolved as of checkout. Poor poor service and needless to say we will not stay there again and will definitely not recommend it to anyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
pics looked amazing and I thought it would be better than what it was. Time share sales pitch I was not aware that I would be hit with one. We arrived late at night and it took 20 min for the sales guy to finally let go, Not a pleasant experience. We travel a lot to the Disney area around every 2 months and have stayed in several places always looking […] for a nice family stay. This was not one of them. Very dissapointed. They did not clean the floor well. There were broken glasses left on the living floor. My daughter got a small cut on her right foot. Other things were ok, except calling front desk. I need to go through several steps to talk to them.Genuine Expedia guest review
After reading the warnings regaridng the sales presentation and the $20 certificate at check in, I was able to easily avoid any sales pitch or timeshare presentation. There was no pressure and they were very nice. Thank you to all who posted advice on this topic. Being prepared was the ticket. After checking into our room early, thanks to Tony at the […] front desk, we went about our day at Disney. The room at first glance was a little beat up but seemed ok. That night before bed however, we found a slow moving cockroach (called Palmetto Bugs in FL) crawling next to the master bed. Eew! We thought it was maybe an isolated incidence but the next day when looking to do some laundry, the attennae of a large dead roach was sticking out from between the washer and dryer. Double eew! We reported the sightings to the guest services who waived the 15 dollar resort fee. (we didnt even use the resort activites or the pool anyway). The staff was nice but operationally and functionally, I would not recommend this resort. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"WATCH OUT!! Timeshare!"
Let me start out by saying that I have been to quite a few timeshare hotels and have in fact, owned several timeshare companies. This one is DEFINITELY the BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. The folks here are pushy and sales-y as hell and they do not take no for an answer. They claim to be a no-pressure type of establishment but that COULDN'T be farther from the […] truth. They literally have someone who blocks your exit from the front check in desk and practically holds your hand to ensure that after you have checked in, you visit their sales desk so they can hard sell you on joining the timeshare. AND to make it worse, not only do they charge a $35 "resort fee" but they also charge your card $250 for "incidentals" and they claim to return it within 10 days. I don't know about you guys, but if I'm on hotels.com to find a hotel that a deal, I don't have $250 that I can afford to place in limbo for $10 days. In addition, they nickle and dime you for everything. Yes they have lazy rivers if you want to pay $9 a tube. To make it worse, when you pay for a tube, you get a wristband and ONLY the person who paid can use the tube because they have pool employees who wander around just to ensure that only wristbanded folks use a tube. So if you are a family of 4, that's $36 just to enjoy an amenity that you were already promised on their website. In terms of the rooms, they are just ok. Having been to other timeshare companies, I can tell you that there is nothing particularly special about these rooms. Yes they have a washer and dryer (our broke the first time we tried to use it), yes they have Tv's (the old giant tube kind that have a really shaky cable connection), yes they claim to have a hot tub in some of the rooms (we are both pretty tiny in terms of body frame, and that hot tub could barely fit one of us), and some of their showers are SO ridiculously tiny (I dont know about you all, but I like to know that if i choose to turn around in my shower to wash my hair/back etc, that i Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
""Too Big of Property and Too Many People""
This was our third visit to Orlando in the last 3 years. Previously stayed at Hilton Grand Vacation Resorts which were wonderful. Thought we'd try something different and Orange Lakes seemed to fit our needs with a water park on the premises. Arrived on a Saturday evening. Check in was easy and fast, but disappointed when we traveled to our villa which […] was in West Village. These were the oldest of all the villas on the property although remodeled nicely. You had to get in your car to drive to all the pools or could take the shuttle but it was so darn hot, sitting and waiting at the pickup stations was not an option. A golfers dream which we were not. Just very disappointed in how inconvenient all the fun places werelocated at. Way too many people at this resort..had a hard time finding a place to hang out by the pool. We stayed 7 days and not once did housekeeping come to clean or replace any towels or supplies. Our sliding glass door came off the track and came apart. No covered patio so you couldn't sit outdoors without dying of heat. So much driving traffic. Don't think we'll be returning to this resort. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Aug 1 2011"
10 pools sounded great...it needs 20 for the number of rooms and users within this huge complex. The 3 bedroom was spacious, clean and nice. Otherwise, stay away. Everything closes at 10pm, except for the streets where we had to Slowly navigate our way thru a crowd of teenagers to get to our apartment which this certain night was at 3am in the morning. […] Close to Disney, which was a plus, but simply just TOOOOO many guests for the amenities on site. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Poor Customer Service"
We were met at check in with a high pressure "take a tour" pitch when all we wanted to do was get to our villa and wash up. We were checked into accomodations that had not been cleaned and it took 3 hours to rectify the problem. Both the front desk and the customer service desk did not give us any confidence that they wanted to help us or resolve the […] problem and in my opinion were very poorly trained. This "first impression" spolit our stay and the hotel did not recover from our low opinion of the quality of their staff. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unpleasant Welcome Gift"
After driving 10 hours with 2 young children, we checked in and were greeting with an adult sex toy on th kitchen counter left by housekeeping. After switching rooms, we received a room with no hot water, a tub that was dirty from previous guest and would not drain. We had to switch rooms again. The girls at the front desk lied about which are was renovated […] so she wouldnt have to switch the room assignement. The buildings along the highway are very loud and sirens go by constantly. The restraunt by the pool overcharged us significantly and would not give us a credit unless I walked back down to them personally, which I have a broken foot and this is not easy to do. ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"STAY AWAY FROM HOLIDAY INN ORANGE RESORT"
The Hotel lost our reservation and were more concerned with making money off their customers than serving them. After check-in, they immediately tried to sell us on attending a 8am meeting to buy a time-share condo and claimed they would give us a discounted price on tickets to use their tiny waterpark. The sales pitch immediately after check-in insulted […] our intelligence. Also, the price was high with had added service charges to pay for the grounds, it simply was not worth the hassle and we will never go back there again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Won't go back!"
No maid service!!! We had to ask for clean towels. Our room was not cleaned once. We requested an ice bucket the night we arrived, it came two days later. We were assured that our room would have a view. It did, of the inside of the hotel. We had to fight to get a room not looking at another room. They put us in a room overlooking every air conditioner […] on the property. NOISY! You can not open the windows. We were given a $20 coupon at check in to use at their water park, it was not valid unless you went to a timeshare presentation. We won't go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
