Eminently walkable, Old Town Alexandria offers a glimpse of early America through its 4,000 historic homes and businesses. Many visitors begin their tour at the Ramsey House Visitors Center, near the center of Old Town. One highlight is The Athenaeum art gallery, a Greek Revival structure where legendary Civil War Gen. Robert E. Lee once banked. Don’t miss Mount Vernon, George Washington’s estate.

I stayed for work and expected it to be in Old Town at which it was not although they offer a shuttle. The first room I walked into smelled like cat urin and had to move rooms. The second was completely fine and comfortable. The gentleman at the front dest was rude at each interaction. The next morning I had a cold shower. If you are looking for a place […] in Old Town I would not choose this if you can find another place around the same price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel but ok location"
The hotel and staff were great it's just the location that wasn't so ideal. I had a conference to attend in Old Town and the hotel shuttle only drops off at King St. and the waterfront, which was more than 15 blocks from the conference hotel. So if you have a car it's not an issue otherwise you either have to take a cab or walk a long distance along […] King St. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It is what it is...."
Have stayed at other Hampton Inns in the DC area that were much better than this one. Comforter smelled overwhelmingly of bleach, had to take it off of bed. It had been washed so much that the filling was bunched up in the corners of the squares...no hot water, only tepid at best in shower and sink. Breakfast...well they tried but very overcrowded in […] the small space. It was only for one night as we were catching a flight out the next morning but would be hard pressed to use that site again or for a longer stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Plus-Room was very clean and comfortable. Hotel staff was friendly and attentative. Buffet breakfast was very good. Minus-The room keycard didn't work. The tv didn't receive any channels, needed a technician to come re-boot it. The room refrigerator didn't work.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great for the money"
The hotel was very clean. Upon our arrival we asked for an upgrade and were given one free of charge. It is within minutes to the national harbor in Maryland and close to the shops and eateries of the Crystal Drive area. It is about 20 minutes to DCGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Hotel"
I don't know why this hotel has such a bad rep, I found it to be one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. The staff was very kind and everything was clean, what more can you ask of a hotel? The breakfast was nothing special, but it was free which is always a plus in my book.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good location"
Great hotel - clean and good service. However, the mattresses was too bouncy, and the kitchenette consisted of a cabinet with refrigerator and microwave on top, and the coffee maker was in the bathroom. Although the hotel's name has "Suites" in it, our room was just a single room and a bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Bobby - the gentleman who picked us up from the airport was fabulous. He showed us the sites of old town. He was very knowledgeable and quite the gentleman - very friendly. He saw us the next day from across a busy room and came over to say hi. The front desk people were very nice and helpful. I was glad the breakfast was served until 10 and it was […] very thoughtful to have a bag breakfast on our day of departure. The room and whole hotel was up-to-date and clean. It means a lot. "Awesome holiday retreat."
The lady at the front desk was having a hard time logging into the computer to check me in. She had to get the manager to reboot the system and she was very apologetic throughout the whole thing. I was in no hurry so I didn't mind. They had a plate of fresh cookies on the desk too so I didn't mind one bit having to wait a few minutes ;) I booked for […] just the weekend but added more days the following week so I had 2 separate reservations. She was very helpful in making sure I had the same room and wouldn't have to leave, check out, and check back in. Breakfast was like any normal hotel breakfast. They left coffee and tea out all day also which is always a plus. The hotel has a little shop with very reasonably priced snacks and drinks. We walked to the metro because it was so nice out but they offered the shuttle every day. It's in a pretty good location with grocery stores nearby and some restaurants. We had a fabulous time and I would definitely stay here again when I go back to DC. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"comfy beds!!!"
Often the front office needed additional staff. I was put on hold many times when calling in the evening concerning our reservations. The housekeeper forgot to refill our coffee supplies one day which was a disappointment. As always, i find the staff for the most part outstanding-very friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and polite. In DC it is very helpful […] to ask them questions and always get an answer. Breakfast was very good with adequate seating. We love the bedding and the rooms are very comfortable. The shuttle was a big plus for us-certainly justified the extra cost. (we normally stay at the Hampton in Arlington which is less expensive) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overnight for Saturday Wedding in the Area"
Easy access from I-495. Plenty of parking. Covered entrance for dropping off elderly parents. One night stay for a wedding nearby. View of golf course and Potomac River was very limited.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Suite Was Very Pleasant"
Because we were able to leave a day early, we had two different bookings. The first night's room was a standard room that could use a bit of updating. "Convenient Location!"
I loved my room! It was so clean and the bed was super comfy. My only complaint is that the hall smelled of old stale ciggarettes on the 7th floor. "traveling on a budget."
The hotel was very busy and the parking was difficult. There were several large groups coming in when we arrived and could hardly get in the door, the elevator was also comsumed by the large groups "moving in". The pool was also dissappointing, it was one of the primary reasons we chose this hotel . The photos on expedia made it look much larger, while […] in reality the pool was small, with little to no privacy from the adjacent highway and parking lot. the pool was also kind of dirty, there was hair floating in the pool to the point that I noticed it. the pool was also old and not well updated. The free breakfast was well done. there was a spacious dining area and the food was fine, especially compared to other free breakfasts. I would put the breakfast in the catergory of a denny's type of food. its not four star cooking but it was fresh and free. Lastly the hotel was 10 minutes from the National Harbor in DC. which is a big selling point. its probally the closest you can get to the national harbor without being on the natioal harbor, which was about 100.00 price difference. good luck Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly Staff, Nice Breakfast, Comfortable Rooms!"
Our family just completed a two-week stay in the DC area, using this hotel as our base, and we would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a family. The staff was wonderful, offering extra attention and service and sincerely trying to accommodate their guests. Shuttles to the Metro or the old-town area of Alexandria were always available, staffed […] with very friendly drivers. The breakfast included at least 2 hot items along with waffles, oatmeal, lots of fruit, and the usual cereals and muffins, and was available from 6-10 AM each day. The rooms included a small fridge and microwave for convenience, and grocery/drug stores are nearby. The location was convenient for exploring Virgina, and close to Reagan National, and while the Metro was convenient, we ended up driving to DC more than using the Metro, as with a family the round-trip costs were quite expensive, and we could find on-street parking fairly near museums without too much bother. Overall if you have a family and are looking for a very clean, wonderfully staffed facility, offering breakfast, free parking, free wireless, and nice in-room amenities, you should find Hampton Inn & Suites Old Town South a great choice! Hotel was nice. We appreciated the shuttle service. Only complaint was that of 90+ televisions stations only 5 were available.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel"
A very nice basic hotel. Room was clean, staff was responsive and helpful. Shuttle to the Metro and King street was a most always timely (a few minutes or less). You DO have to take a shuttle to get to those places and there is nothing within reasonable walking distance of this hotel. But it wasn't a problem due to the shuttle. The complimentary breakfast […] was very well put together and had lots of choices. One thing to note, it will take you an hour to get into the DC city area, so you will need to plan accordingly. Getting the shuttle from the hotel, getting to the station, waiting for the Metro, the trip into the city and then walking to your destination does add up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
