It was great. Some of the guests, as always, would slam doors, let their dogs howl, and run in the halls. The hotel was comfortable and convenient to D.C. & Old Town Alexandria via the metro. The breakfast had a good variety of hot and cold foods and beverages. The staff was friendly and helpful. Other amenities included washing machines and dryers, gym, convenience store, free computers with internet access, free Wi-Fi, comfortable lobby with flat screen […] T.V.s, and an outdoor pool and small picnic area. We enjoyed our stay very much. All employees were pleasant and polite and willing to talk/joke around with guests. The shuttle driver we had was a blast! I was under the impression that the Metro was much closer to DC than it actually was. It took 33 minutes to get from the Metro station to the Smithsonian station and was a bit more expensive than I […] was expecting. But, it was clean and easy to use and the employees at the stations were helpful to the obviously "lost" tourists! The dinner at the hotel was a wonderful bonus. Tacos one night, grilled chicken another and ravioli on the last night. It was nice to not have to pay for another meal as the food at lunchtime in downtown DC was horrendously expensive. The breakfast was good, but not everything you got one day was there the next, so if you like the say thing every morning, be prepared. The hotel room definitely had enough space for the 5 of us. We had a double double suite. Another couple of comfy chairs in the living area would have been nice. Also, the change machine was not working and when we went to do some laundry we could only do one load as we couldn't get enough quarters for the machines. Altogether, we would be happy with staying there again and probably return next time we come for vacation to DC. Read more

This suite was bigger than my first apartment!! There were six of us and there was plenty of room. The food they served for breakfast and dinner was good enough, even though it was not the same as a five star restaurant. Staff was always helpful even with some strange requests.

After spending the day in DC this was one of the few in the area that had a room available . I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff. The room was perfect for us I had my son and my daughter with me each of us had our own bed the only thing that botheref me about the room was thst the extra blanket in the closet was dirty. A little oversight […] it must have been in that closet for a long time with no one touching it. They have a free shuttle to the metro station to get to anywhere you want to go. We were thrilled to get a 2 bdrm for our 4 night stay. However, the furniture in LR and DR area was badly stained. That made us feel like it was "dirty" and run down a little. This is a very comfortable hotel, with great amenities. It is convenient to shopping and the surrounding area (access to Metro, etc.). The staff is friendly and tries their best to help you out. The room was clean although (as someone else noted), it seems to be a tradition to leave salt & pepper in the kitchenette sink. The bathroom in the King Suite […] was rather small (OK for one person but too small for two people to share). The location is a bit traffic-noisy (Van Dorn Street in front and I-395 right behind), but not too bad. There's a decent amount of parking around the building and the breakfast was great. I assume the free food they put out in the evening is good, too, but I wasn't there for any of it. All-in-all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to a friend who would be visiting the Washington area, either for business or pleasure, and I would definitely stay here again. Read more

This is our 3rd time staying at this hotel, for a weekend in DC. Love the size of the suites, big enough for 5-6 people to stay. Nice to have room for the kids to run around in the suite, and the convenience of the kitchen. Free breakfast is really nice as well. Short drive into DC, or take the Metro!We'll be back!

Our stay at the hawthorn was excellent. I thought the staff was concerned about their guests. The hotel provided a shuttle to the metro and from their, it was about 20 minutes to all of the major attractions in DC. Staying at the Hawthorne is a great , inexpensive way to visit DC. We spent 7 nights here to see the sights of D.C. and surrounding cities. Shuttle to metro allowed us to get to where we wanted without having a car. Breakfast had lots of food choices and the week day dinner was a nice extra.

Nice hotel. Rooms are huge. More like an apartment than a hotel room. Some of the furniture was dated, living room furniture had cigarette burns in one of the cushions. Heard street noise through the night. Great breeakfast buffet selection. Pool looked nice but did not have a chance to use it. Pleasant staff. Free and convienent outside parking.

The room was extremely spacious for a family of 5. We have 2 year old twins and a 5 year old. The suite included a living room, dining area, kitchen, and master bedroom. Very comfortable compared to other places that we have stayed this year. The free breakfast in the morning was ok and the location was very convenient for us to drive to the Mall in […] D.C. We had a great stay, we were there during a heat wave and electrical failure due to a storm. The whole neigborood around was in the dark but our service got interupted for less than 2 minutes. The hotel was convenient to the Metro line with complementary shuttles running to Metro every 30 minutes. Everyone at the hotel went out of their way to help anyway they could. We chose this hotel because we were traveling with our German shepherd and needed a place with a microwave and refrigerator for her food preparation. Our room exceeded expectations. The overall look and feel of the hotel is tired, old and in need of updating. Hallways were not kept clean. The bathroom in our room, while generally clean, was in poor condition; for example, paint and floor tile.

This was a large suite. Seemed to be an apartment switch to a hotel. Had an old apartment feel to it and a not so fresh smell. Beds were not as large as stated. But the living area was a good size for a big family.Hotel is also very close to highway which made it hard to sleep with the highway noise. It wasn't totally bad. We looked online at many hotels in DC and the surrounding area. This one seemed to be the best option for us. It had free parking, kitchenette in room, free breakfast, shuttle to the Metro station, and a pool. We got even more than that....the hotel staff was SUPER friendly, the hotel shuttle was free and ran quite often, and there is a free Manager's […] reception every evening M-Th. They said this reception included complimentary beer and wine and heavy hors d'oeuvres. By "heavy" hors d'oeuvres, they meant "dinner". The first night when we got there at 6:00 pm, we were exhausted from our drive and not looking forward to going out again to find someplace for dinner. What a wonderful surprise to find that our hotel was serving lasagna, garlic bread, and salad right next to the lobby, and it was FREE! Everything was very clean including our room and the pool area. The hotel was not as protrayed on the hotels.com website. The lobby was bad, workmanship of the room itself is beyond belief. We payed for this room but did not even stay at the hotel. We brought our bags up and left within 20 minutes to another hotel in the area. We actually booked 2 rooms but did not stay.
