My room was hilariously small. The price was right and it was conveniently located in downtown so my next morning meetings were easy to get to. The free breakfast is really just coffee, cereal, and pastries/muffins. I would probably stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ok but..."
Place was very clean, it's a quirky building, narrow maze like hallways, small rooms. My room did not have an attached bathroom, it was in the hallway (but only for my room). Parking lot is tiny and you might have to park next door in their overflow parking at the Chinese restaurant. Everything was pretty much fine until I got back to my room a little […] after midnight only to then find that the heater in the room did not work. It was chilly that night and I really needed that heater, and there weren't enough blankets to keep me warm. I was tired by then and didn't feel like going to the desk to complain and possibly have to change rooms so I just dealt with it. But that is a pretty big oversight on their part and kind of a deal beaker for me. I'll probably try a different place next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Okay"
The hotel is near Maine Medical Center but not much else. The neighborhood is not the best. The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful. The biggest negative was that the room was not as clean as it could have been. Also, the lights in the hallway and lobby area were dusty and had clearly not been cleaned for a while. The staff is mostly men […] and they don't see dust and dirt. They need to have more feminine input. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cute, but probably won't stay again"
The hotel is super cute, and has VERY friendly and helpful staff. However, the location is not ideal, the neighborhood is a bit sketch and the hotel is old and dusty. When we arrived our room smelled strongly of bleach and other scents (which we don't enjoy) but later gave way to a very dusty/musty smell. The breakfast was a typical continental style […] with very basic food. Nothing horrible about this place, just probably will find another place to stay next time. Great location near airport. Nice staff. Needs updating of worn carpeting. Adequate but not exceptionalGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice property, so so location"
Hoel is a cozy B & B style property. It is a charming building with nice furnishings. Major issue is the location. The property is located on a busy street with a lot of traffic noise from the street. My room faced the busy street with vehicle traffic. I would recommend an interior room to mitigate this noise. My room was on the third floor. Lots of […] narrow stairs. Bathroom was down the hall. Not very convenient. Check to make sure you have a private bathroom. This hotel had a great room rate and adequate breakfast. Stay here for one night only. There are other hotels closer to the Old Port district if you are staying for longer periods. "Won't come again!"
1.The room looks very clean. 2.The location is very convenient. 3. The private bathroom and the bedroom are in different place, need to walk about 1 min on the same floor. It feels inconvenient. 3. This place needs to copy your driver license number( First time to be asked for it) 4. The breakfast is simple, including muffin, bread , orange juice etc, […] no eggs. "Nice Stay"
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Be careful and make sure you know how big you room is. some are a average size and some a very small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for and evening"
The only issue that was fine with me but others may have an issue is that the bathroom was across the hall Private and spacious but not in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"our quaint stay"
We enjoyed the hotel very much. Very quaint, super quiet and the classic old decor put a cherry on top. The hotel was clean, and centrallly located to close attraction areas. The immediate neighborhood was a lil seedy but the hotel had rules of door locking and instructions as well a a brightly lit parking lot for late comers. Thanks:) enjoy your s […] tay! "Tiny but clean"
When we first walked into our room, we burst out laughing at how small it was. It was clean, and we liked the neighborhood, but they did not provide even little things like a dresser for clothes (probably too small to put one in the room) or even a hook to hang clothes in the bathroom.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Affordable Portland, ME"
The hotel was fine for an overnight. The desk host at check-in seemed annoyed by our presence and was generally unfriendly, though he eventually tried to be helpful, even if irritated.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, a few improvements needed"
The Inn is situated in downtown Portland Maine. Getting there was not hard. parking is behind the inn, but it's a small parking lot. The staff were very friendly. Being a Sunday night off-season, they upgraded my room, which was nice!. This assured me of a private bathroom. ( I originally opted for the value accommodation.) The room was on the second […] floor. I had to climb a rather steep stairway. No elevator. This was not a problem for me, but it may prove difficult for others. The room was small but nicely appointed. The room was facing the street, so street noise was inevitable, tolerable for me, but one should opt for a room away from the street. The bed was not the greatest, a new mattress and box spring are in order. The shower was fine , no issues. A continental breakfast is served. The space is a bit cramped, but not bad. They also serve cookies and coffee throughout the day, which is a nice touch. The neighborhood is a bit iffy. The inn is located across from the Maine Medical Center, so you do hear ambulance and police cars . There were a few homeless people on the street. This is to be expected in a downtown location, but some may not care to deal with that. All in all, not bad. I'm not sure the inn would be great for families, nor would I recommend it to seniors because of the stairs. I think it's fine for singles or young couples. I would spring for more deluxe accommodations, away from the street, and make sure the bed is acceptable Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good for what you pay"
I have stayed at this hotel several times, always choosing the same room category, but the quality of the rooms greatly vary. My sense is that the rooms on the ground floor are of a worse quality. During this last stay, I stayed at two different rooms, because the first one faced the street and was very noisy. Both rooms, however, were only okay in […] terms of quality and comfort. The staff is for the most part polite, although not overly friendly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good basic accomodations"
After a harrowing 7 hour struggle with bad weather to get to Portland, arriving here was a welcome relief. However, the parking situation at this Inn is very unpleasant, and potentially dangerous. When I arrived there shortly after midnight there was an ice storm going, snow mixed with rain, and a lot of ice everywhere. Their main lot was full, so I […] had to park at the Chinese restaurant lot next door. Because the back door of the Inn was locked, I had to walk around a block, up a steep hill covered with ice, and detour around heavily flooded areas. The steep sidewalk was covered with ice and unuseable, so I had to walk in the street, which was also icy. I strongly recommend that the Inn reconsider their policy and open the back door in cases like this. I found it extremely inconsiderate of them. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"In at St. John--Nice hotel, not-so-nice area"
The Inn @ St. John is like a hostel for grown-ups. It does the job if all you need is a place to stay and it does have a cool historical feel to it. The surrounding neighborhood is not so great. Even thought the waterfront is only 1.7 miles away, the first mile of the walk has a sketchy feel to it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Inn at St. John in Portland, , close to fast food"
The hotel is somewhat quaint though our bed was barely big enough for two adults and we are not large people. Also the bathroom is down the hall for our room, though they did provide robes. I did not mind that so much and for the price, it was not a bad place to stay. Close to restaurants and the port area and the parking was right in back. The continental […] breakfast was very adequate too and the staff was friendly and eager to please. I would recommend but they need to get bigger beds as it was not that comfortable, but we were exhausted from driving and a long day, so it was not too horrible either. "A Pleasant "period" hotel, with drawbacks"
A very pleasant, refurbished "period" hotel, however we were not made aware that our room was on the 3rd floor without an elevator. Stairs are very steep and narrow & would definitely pose an issue for some people. Also bathroom facilies were shared, which was a definite negative.Genuine Expedia guest review
